MLB All Star Break/Midseason Review

Recommended Posts

I'm not so sure I'd say the Mets would be the same team without Wright...sure Beltran and Reyes are kicking ass, but Wright really brings a lot to the table as well.

Well, yeah, but if you didn't have Wright, you'd still have Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, etc., etc., etc. I think that Berkman has contributed more to the Astros success this season than David Wright has to the Mets. Berkman has either driven in or scored over a quarter of Houston's runs this season. For an example of how important he is to the lineup, refer to the first month of the 2005 season when Berkman was out with an injury. That...was not pretty.

Post your mid-season Award winners. This is who you would vote for.

AL MVP - Jim Thome w/Ortiz 2nd

AL Cy Young - Roy Halladay w/ Liriano 2nd

AL ROY - Francisco Liriano w/ Papelbon 2nd

AL MOY - Jim Leyland, then Ozzie

NL MVP - David Wright, w/Pujols 2nd

NL Cy Young - Reluctantly, I'd go with Glavine because of his numbers. Unlike Doc, Liriano, or Johan, no one in the NL has put up a dominating first half.

NL ROY - Dan Uggla

NL MOY - Like Glavine, Willie Randolph has the best numbers but doesn't really seem deserving either.

I got 26 out of 50 on that test, with the early questions being the ones that hurt me. Anyway, the Dodgers need a consistent 3rd starter. The lineup is fine, the only problem is the pitching.

AL MVP - Jim Thome

AL Cy Young - Francisco Liriano

AL ROY - Francisco Liriano

AL MOY - Jim Leyland

NL MVP - Albert Pujols

NL Cy Young -Brandon Webb

NL ROY - Dan Uggla

NL MOY - Bruce Bochy

What do you think about the RULES of the HR Derby?

I think it's kinda silly to have Abreu do what he did and then have it all be pretty much washed away by losing the competition. With his performance, I think the Derby should be won by cumulative HRs, not each rounds top score.

As I stated at NMB, they need to amend the rules to say 15 swings, instead of 10 outs. The length has become ridiculous the last few years.

AL MVP: Travis Hafner, Cle

AL Cy Young: Roy Halladay, Tor

AL Rookie of the Year: Francisco Liriano, Min

Manager of the Year: Jim Leyland, Det

NL MVP: Albert Pujols, StL

NL Cy Young: Brad Penny, LAD

NL Rookie of the Year: Ryan Zimmerman, Was

NL Manager of the Year: Tony LaRussa, StL

I'd prefer.

8 guys. Top 4 HRs make it.

4 guys. Top 2 combined HRs make it.

2 guys. Most HRs win.

______

So we don't get Howard hitting 21 in round 2 and then 5 in Round 3 and losing.

It ruins the Derby the way things are now. People will be more likely to conserve energy as a result of what happened with Bobby.

I prefer the head to head 2nd round instead of the top 2 advance second round. Here's a new rule I'd like to see: Chris Berman is not allowed in the stadium for the entire competition. That'd solve 90% of the derby's problems.

The problem is what happens if one player comes into the finals with a 15 HR lead. You think fans will stick around for an anticlimatic final round?

WTF is up with the BRIGHT yellow, retina burning NL jerseys? Because they're playing in Pissburgh and the powers that be wanted to be cute with yellow and black jerseys the whole nation has to suffer permanent eye damage? It's like staring at the sun.

Liriano and Eckstein replace Contreras and Reyes, respectively for the ASG. I'm glad to see that Liriano made it.

For the HR Derby, I'm picking Berkman to go all the way. Totally.

Okay, so the Yankees haven't had a terrible start, not like last year anyway. The pitching is still the problem (duh) as the bullpen cannot hold a game down.

I'm going with Ryan Howard to win the HR Derby.

The Yanks need to trade for a bat or a pitcher and they shouldn't give up Wang, Melky, Cano or Hughes to get it.

Al, do you think that Joe Girardi would get any serious consideration for manager of the year?

Yes. I'd be tempted to give him my vote. I forgot about him when I filled out my choices.

If Ortiz can get the Phillies Pitching coach to throw to him tonight than I think Tejada should get them to dig up Tony Pena to throw to him.

David Wright really should've brought LIMA time with him. Unfortunately, the Mets DFA'd Lima a day or two ago.

If it ain't Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park, Berman can't be bothered to call the game which is for the best.

Hmmm....maybe Berkman shoulda hit righty.

I'd like to see a HR derby with pitchers. Get Zambrano and Willis et al out there and let them hit some 420 ft. bombs. That would be great.

So what are they supposed to trade, some Yankee uniforms and a bucket of balls?

Cano and Sheffield both are coming off the DL at some point in terms of offense. In terms of pitching Dotel may come off the dl at somepoint and if the Yankees are really lucky so will Pavano.
