Bruce Blank Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 "Smash-mouth"? Is JR writing for TNA now?
luke-o Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 I dont know, but i like the fact that The Paperazi are getting a push.
TNABaddboi Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 Mike Johnson posted this: SpikeTV and TNA are banking on tonight's Rhino promo on Impact making some waves. SpikeTV went as far as to issue a press release noting that they have a preview of the promo on their website yesterday, which they usually don't do to promote TNA. According to one source, there is additional footage that did not take place before the fans live at the Impact taping that is said to be very interesting.

2GOLD Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 I think it's sadly about the old ECW belt that Rhino has, which if it is I think they should have just left it as a live crowd only promo.
Astro101 Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 Eh I say fuck it. If they're going for the bash of ECW, go full steam at it. Should be interesting either way. Rhino sounded great on the mic in the promo piece on the website.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 I have to say I don't have an opinion one way or the other about bashing competitors... But at least it's making people talk about Rhino again. He was obviously going to be getting a push once he chose to re-sign with the company...and this is an interesting start.
Downhome Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 This is going to be very, very, interesting. From PWInsider: According to a source at SpikeTV, the angle for tonight's edition of Impact will feature Rhino issuing an open challenge while holding what is supposed to be the original ECW World title belt, followed by Rhino throwing the belt into a trash can and then setting it on fire. Obviously, TNA is taking a direct shot at the new version of ECW. It sounds like a wild idea and we'll have to see how it comes across in execution tonight.

Like what a message board invasion or the mutants making a road trip to Orlando?

The Ghost of bps21 Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 I like the angle because...let's face it...the old ECW fans aren't exactly liking the new ECW product...so they're probably not offending anyone. Hell...if the crowd reaction at the ECW arena is any indication...this might even please some of those people.

Hell...if the crowd reaction at the ECW arena is any indication...this might even please some of those people. That's the idea. There may be some legal issues surounding the whole thing. That is, if it is the REAL old ECW belt and if they bash ECW and the WWE openly, but I don't know any of the legal mumbo jumbo.
TNABaddboi Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 Judging by the clip on TNA's site, i'm pretty sure that's NOT the real ECW belt. If it was, I'm 100% they would have had him pull it out of the bag, a la Madusa. They're just playing on the fact that we all know he has it, which also gives them legal cover.
Guest Doombiscuit Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 Yeah, there's no way it could be the real ECW title belt. Firstly , WWE owns the ECW trademark and would sue em to hell. Secondly, though slightly less importantly, why would you burn the ECW if you were the last person to hold it? That must be worth a lot to Rhinlo, and I don't just mean in money.

I think the reason that he wouldn't actually show the title belt on TV is because of a court-order, which stemmed from the Madusa incident, IIRC. That's why Mike Awesome didn't appear with the ECW title belt on WCW TV.
Astro101 Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 I believe I read reports last week where it said that the real ECW belt was in fact in the bag. edit after reading spoilers: Just read the spoilers and at first it doesn't make sense why Rhino would burn the old ECW belt. I gues he could say that he's "ceremoniously" burning the belt so as to close off the legacy of the old ECW with him being the true end of the lineage of the title. Hope he explains it. Either way, people should be talking about it.

JustJoe2k5 Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Should be a fun show. The tag match could be very good if they give it enough time.

Either way, people should be talking about it. Well, the bingo hall home of ECW IS called Viking Hall. And in some cases when a viking died, one of the ways to say goodbye and give his soul rest was to burn the body. I guess you COULD make the argument that what he was doing was burning the body of long dead ECW to release the soul. Yeah, I put way too much thought into that. So what?
Downhome Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Well, this sure is some way to start the show. How have the ratings been for Impact lately? EDIT: Bloody hell, why didn't Rhino ever get the stick in WWE (yeah, I KNOW why, just saying)? He could've been over huge.
razazteca Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Only thing missing from the show is Don West or Mike Tenay saying "You'll see that on Tuesday night".
Angle-plex Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Why doesn't Rhino just cry about ECW being started up without him? Seriously no one cares if he was the last champion or not.
Angle-plex Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Yeah, lets use the opening show to focus on insulting our competition rather than, you know, having a wrestling match or advancing a TNA storyline.
TNABaddboi Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 How have the ratings been for Impact lately? They've been over 1.0 for about a month or so.
Astro101 Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Loved that they started out the show with that. Great stuff, imo. Guess ECW has to shut down now!
razazteca Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Yeah, lets use the opening show to focus on insulting our competition rather than, you know, having a wrestling match or advancing a TNA storyline. TNA is doing old school ECW better than Sci-Fi ECW! Rhyno as the new Shane Douglas > Flair as the new Funk
TNABaddboi Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 hahahaha...was that a DX Rejects chant at the James Gang?
Hawk 34 Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Why doesn't Rhino just cry about ECW being started up without him? Seriously no one cares if he was the last champion or not. WWE, obviously did.
