Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 I really like watching soccer, but the problem is I really only get interested about every two years with the Euro and World cups. However, after this past World Cup which I thought to have some of the best games I've seen in awhile, I was interested in following the sport on the club level, and to actually pay attention to the leagues and what not. How does the system work? I hear about all these different Serie "A" stuff and Premiership Leagues and all that jazz. Which league is essentially the best one? Is there even a best one? Do clubs from different leagues play each other at all? What's essentially the timeline for when the season starts? etc. etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. deancoles 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 The main leagues start in August and end in May, in World Cup year it's changed a bit to give players a bit of a break. The best leagues are Spanish,Italian,English,French,German,Dutch and Portugese, Each league has about 18/20 teams and also has a cup competition. The top 3/4 teams of each league go into the Champions League and the cup winners go into the Uefa cup, these are where you'll see the clubs from opposing leagues play each other. The best League's for entertainment are usually a country's 2nd or 3rd division, most teams don't have much money so the teams are more even than in the top league where the top teams tend to be far better than the rest. Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/League_system That will explain the leagues much better than me.
