cd213 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2006 Avanged is up for Best New Artist in a video...that we're finally playing. I really like the 30 Seconds to Mars song, nice to see them win. I know it's said every year, but this looks like the worst VMAs ever I have to agree with 30 Seconds. I am a big fan. Have been since the firsts album came out a few years ago. MTV has to be the run by assholes who know nothing about the music industry. I don't know how Avenged can win let alone be nominated for Best New Artist. They have been around for a few years now. Just because you start playing them now doesn't make them new. Same for Rhiana, didn't she have one of the biggest hits of LAST summer? I think this is her second album, but I might be mistaken about that. Best Dane Video, let's not nominate actual dance songs, let's nominate videos with dancing in them. The last time an actual dance song won was Days Go By by Dirty Vegas. The heads at MTV don't know much about music.
cd213 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2006 Wait...I like Gnarls Barkley and Chamillionaire, still...I've never heard of Panic! At the Disco or Angels and Airwaves. Are they...."screamo"? Gnarls Barkley is a good group. Their song is catchy. Panic! At the Disco is pop punk wich I really hate. I've heard a few songs from them and EVERY song sounds the same. If they never came out with another single again, I wouldn't mind, but that's just me. Angels and Airwaves is the new pop punk band fronted by Tom from Blink 182. Not impressed by them either. Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 GRRR, I'M SO ANGRY AT MTV! I WATCH IT BECAUSE IT FILLS ME WITH RAGE!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted August 3, 2006 Angels and Airwaves is the whiny guy from blink-182 singing over big swooshy stuff that sounds like U2 circa The Joshua Tree.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 I'm surprised the Mary J Blige/U2 remake of 'One' didn't get a slew of nominations.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 I'm surprised the Mary J Blige/U2 remake of 'One' didn't get a slew of nominations. Is it terrible that I don't hate that version of the song?
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 The version, and the video are better than most of the actual nominees...though that means very little.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 Only one of those Best Dance Video nominees is an actual dance video.
FroGG_NeaL 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 I just randomly picked videos that I thought I had seen here and there for the most part. Others, like the RHCP one was dope.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted August 3, 2006 Yeah, I guess, but it has like nothing to do with the song. Not as if that's a requirement for music videos or anything, I just don't see the point of the video. Furthermore, they should've dressed like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, since they essentially stole "Mary Jane's Last Dance."
FroGG_NeaL 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 That's propably why they didn't. And I miss when videos had some sort of relation to the song, or was just so fucked up that it didn't matter.
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 I saw Dani California today. Lame video. "Boy them classic rock band sure did dress up funny yessir!" Please.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 I thought it was lame myself too. It seems like it's been done before and better (even though I'm not sure if it as) And the song sucks. And I usually like the RHCP stuff.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 RE: RHCP robbing Tom Petty...Petty says he doesn't care. Compared to most videos of the past several years - it entertains me at least.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 I thought it was lame myself too. It seems like it's been done before and better (even though I'm not sure if it as) Nirvana's video for "In Bloom" would probably apply, even though they don't cover a ton of different eras of rock like RHCP. And yeah, I'd definitely consider the Nirvana video to be superior.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted August 3, 2006 Let's also try not to lose sight of the fact that "Dani California" is a dreadful song.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 That is un-arguable.
FroGG_NeaL 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2006 Yeah, but this is the Video Awards, the music has nothing to do with it.
