Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 Looks like a pretty good prediction by Leena. 7-6 in the first and now Roger is just cruising, up 5-0. EDIT: Roger wins 6-0 and it's 2-1 in the 3rd set.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 8, 2006 Twas an easy one. That's how just because all their matches have gone down. And while I love James, he's not the best at turning matches around.
Narcoleptic Jumper 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 ohhhh that was fun. Blake was so close.
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 I couldn't help but feel somewhat angry at Federer for not wrapping it up on three sets when he had the chance. He could have closed it with his own serve but allowed Blake to break him and go to tie-break. Then after a 4-1 lead on the tie-break and two serves, Blake managed to put himself 5-4 in the lead. Federer even had a match point but lost the set, and now Blake won a set from him for the first time in his career. On the fourth Roger had a 5-1 lead and again had the opportunity to close it with his own serve but again, dare I say it, choked to allow a comeback for Blake that almost cost him his two previous breaks on Blake's serve. Managing to grab the game after his fifth or so Match Point when he had easily much earlier on is just not acceptable for me. I expected a fight from Blake, but Federer was making huge mistakes here. Hopefully he'll correct himself and not allow such mistakes against Davydenko.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 Jankovic is embarassing Justine right now. I'm stunned, but I wouldn't mind seeing Jelena win the title and usurp Sharapova as the new "it" girl.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 8, 2006 Joosteen fought back. ALLLLEEEZZZZ I have to love the heel of women's tennis.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 I want to see her get another shot at Amelie tomorrow and finally beat her, or just crush 'Pova in prime-time to end that hype train.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 8, 2006 I'd prefer Maria, since Justine would be hated even more, and it's always fun seeing fake Maria get her hopes dashed.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 Maria bagelled Mauresmo twice, haha. Hopefully Justine squashes her tomorrow.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 9, 2006 Youzhny blowing like I expected. Sigh. The thing is that Andy hasn't improved much at all... he's just had two really friendly draws in Cincy and New York. But, we'll continue to show Jimmy Connors every point, and proclaim him the next guru. Roger will destroy Andy, like usual. I'm really hoping Justine wins. CBS has already pissed me off with their previews. MARIA, PRETTY GIRL ALWAYS FIGHTING OMG vs. some bitch.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2006 Got two TV's downstairs tonight, but Sharapova-Henin-Hardene will have to settle for Picture-in Picture with OSU-Texas, Georia-USC & the Nascar race at Richmond. I think Henin-Hardene wins in three, although Maria has been playing well.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 9, 2006 I'm 66% confident Maria wins. The matchup suits her. Maria, fairly big serve vs. Justine, who's serve continues to be her nemesis, with tons of DF's. Justine's topspin plays into Maria's height and bashing. I think Justine needs an off day from Maria to win. Certainly possible... but, Maria usually steps it up in important matches.
Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Maria wins !!!
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 I am no longer a fan of Justine's. She had a chance to go down as a legend this year, and proved to be just another choking, can't get shit done in the crunch Belgian. 3 Finals lost to questionable people like Mauresmo & 'Pova is just pathetic, especially when you consider she was blown out at the Aussie, choked away Wimbledon and her sphincter tigthened when she was up 2-0 tonight. Ugh.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Meh. Maria was the best player this Open, coming into and out of it. I still can't watch her, though.
jwest27 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Haha, that's a weird picture of Sharapova they got on the ESPN.com front page. Looks like she's in mid-yawn. This is my contribution to the thread. Edit: Oh, and also the little headline underneath that. "Sharapova defensive over a banana?"
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Yep, here comes a few months of fluff stories about Maria.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Roger winning. And he brought Tiger to sit in his box. Gee thanks, Roger. Give the networks more reason to not talk about tennis. Starting to like Roger less and less.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Roger's choking. If Roddick and 'Pova win here I'm done with tennis for a year. The hype will be unbearable.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Roger playing far from his best, but he'll win anyway. This will be a forgettable US Open for me.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Roddick just looked like he gave up after losing the third.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Can't blame him.
randomguy 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 Roddick was gassed. You could tell when he started yelling and grunting really loudly on each hit, which he wasn't doing earlier. I don't think he gave up, I think he was dead tired.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 11, 2006 He had no reason to be physically tired. His match against Youzhny wasn't a very long one. He was more mentally gone. He had his chance to take the lead and blew it. Once he lost that 3rd, you know you're not coming back vs. Roger.
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 Congrats to Roger Federer, who now becomes my favorite current player after Andre's retirement (not that anyone cares, but still), on winning his third consecutive US Open and firmly etching himself as one of the all-time greats in the sport. He still has a long way to go until he matches Sampras' record for Grand Slam Titles, but at only 25 years of age and with the level of dominance he's exhibiting I'd say his chances of matching and surpassing Sampras are extremely good. I must say I was surprised on the lack of resistance Roddick displayed on the finals. Even Blake put on a better losing effort against Roger, as I was a little worried for him. But Leena's right, after losing that 3rd set Roddick just wasn't able to muster any kind of comeback. Federer proves that even when he's not at 100% he's still dominant nontheless.
