Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I'm not suggesting Andre's back isn't injured. It's obviously a problem since he can barely move for low balls. And I can sympathize with back injuries. I'm more poking fun at the media for constantly reminding us he's in such agony.
TheShooter 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Is this the first year they've had the cool computer animation of where the ball lands on close plays?
Narcoleptic Jumper 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 No, they've had that feature for a few years now. But this is the first year that they've actually implemented it into the game. Players can now "challenge" a call and they show the animation on the big board to determine the "truth". I would really rather Andre not go out to a scrub like this Becker character, but I just don't see him winning this match. I was really rooting for Baghs to win the other night. It would have been a fitting end to Agassi's career. But no, we have to watch Andre fall apart against this loser. Ah well.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 This 4th set is just some awful tennis. Neither guy can do anything against the other's serve, they are just holding easily every time. I haven't seen a more boring men's set in a long time.
Narcoleptic Jumper 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Yeah, seriously. After the last two matches Andre has played, this is just completely boring and uneventful.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 3, 2006 This match is embarassing. Both can barely move. Becker is a total scrub. Not to continue the Agassi hype hate... but, I really hope he loses here. Because Rodduck will have no issues kicking the shit out of him tomorrow.
Narcoleptic Jumper 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 wow Becker finally woke up. those were some intense shots he hit. it looks to be all over now.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Yay, it's finally over. And Becker finally played some good tennis in the last 2 games. Thanks. Now, get killed by Andy in the next round.
Narcoleptic Jumper 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 it's all over Andre. I can't even imagine how he feels right now. this is truly the end of an era. pete may have won more slams, but no one loved this game more than Andre. he's a bonafide legend and I'm going to miss the fuck out of him. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Emotional stuff on CBS Sports.
TheShooter 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I don't know, I think it was kinda better seeing him lose in a match where he was at least somewhat competitive. I'm sure he would have lost 3-6 2-6 0-6 or something like that if he had played Roddick tomorrow.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 3, 2006 but no one loved this game more than Andre. Andre wasted half of his career due to being an immature brat. Thousands of players would give anything to have 10% of the skill he had. I just hope Andre is really retired. He seemed to like being an attention whore too much. Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 The problem with Andre is that I can't see him shifting to television like McEnroe and the others. He'll have to get his attention elsewhere. He isn't like Pete, who never cared for the attention and publicity and could walk away quietly. Leena's right and Andre will admit this, he squandered many years trying to live up to a manufactored character. and while he's on right now, fuck you Marat Safin. Gert T 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Leena you're right, but that's what I admire about it, he busted his ass to get back to the top. Of course the tennis coach in me hates how much potential he wasted, but I think he can look back on his career and be satisfied.
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Good to see Andy Murray pick up a hard fought win today. I'm slowly warming to him. I don't know much about his potential opponents in the next round but I'd guess he has a decent chance of progressing further.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 4, 2006 Leena you're right, but that's what I admire about it, he busted his ass to get back to the top. Of course the tennis coach in me hates how much potential he wasted, but I think he can look back on his career and be satisfied. Me too. For Andre to be playing the best tennis of his career from 29-35, is simply amazing. He came close to winning the US Open at 35. We'll never see that again. Granted, his impeccable hand-eye coordination and style of play (i.e. always running the opponent around since he can take the ball earlier than anyone) gave him that opportunity, but it's still impressive. However, the fact remains, it's a wasted career. Andre will always be behind Pete, and that has to eat at him. Because Andre was by far, the more talented player. Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 4, 2006 US Open won't be shown from 9-11 on Monday because of Raw. The Tennis Channel will show night coverage then. Hopefully.
Narcoleptic Jumper 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2006 US Open won't be shown from 9-11 on Monday because of Raw. The Tennis Channel will show night coverage then. Hopefully. WTF? Why does that change now that no one watches Raw? Hard to believe more people want to see RAW than the US Open.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2006 The problem with Andre is that I can't see him shifting to television like McEnroe and the others. He'll have to get his attention elsewhere. That's a PROBLEM? This was regarding Leena's comments about Andre being an attention whore, which McEnroe was as well. McEnroe, had the natural ability to carry over into announcing and television, not to mentioned a short lived talk show to get his attention cravings met. Andre, doesn't quite have that. Which means he'll miss the spotlight and it'll eat at him, creating more of the possibility that he might not stay retired as Leena and myself hope. Also: Couldn't USA just send the US Open to Bravo? Why doesn't CBS just do the night telecast? Their regular season hasn't started.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 4, 2006 Which means he'll miss the spotlight and it'll eaAndre is returt at him, creating more of the possibility that he might not stay retired as Leena and myself hope. I wouldn't mind seeing Andre still play, actually. He still has some game. But, if he tries another cheap publicity stunt with retiring again, which the media will eat up, I will loathe him. I think the biggest reason he might return, is because of Stefanie. She looks way too ridiculously hot right now, at 36, to not be planning some sort of return to serious competition. If she plays, he plays. And I miss her lots and lots. Please play again. Couldn't USA just send the US Open to Bravo? Why doesn't CBS just do the night telecast? Their regular season hasn't started. I don't know why CBS doesn't, actually. Just for one night, it wouldn't kill them. I doubt USA could move the coverage to whatever NBC affiliate they want. Why does that change now that no one watches Raw? Hard to believe more people want to see RAW than the US Open. I think Raw may get better ratings... And I don't think USA agreed to this... if they would have, it would be the 1st Monday instead of the 2nd. I vaguely remember something mentioned about it in the Raw deal, but I may be wrong there. Shame too, as this was a rare night men's match I wanted to watch. And people need to see Gasquet play. The kid is gonna be great once he gets his head straight. Narcoleptic Jumper 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2006 where are you seeing this? The US Open site mentions nothing of it, just says that they're showing tennis tonight from 7 to 11. If they don't show Lleyton Hewitt vs. Gasquet that would be a FUCKING CRIME. edit: Christ, not to mention Serena Williams vs. Mauresmo.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2006 The TV Guide channel online lists the US Open on USA from 7 PM to 9 PM and RAW from 9 PM to 11 PM which means we'll likely get to see Amelie/Serena, unless it goes over 2 hours. Hewitt/Gasquet will not be seen.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2006 Someone want to explain what happened to Tommy Robredo today? The #6 ranked player loses 6-2 6-0 6-1 to Mikhail Youzhny?
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 4, 2006 When playing well, Youzhny is the better hardcourt player. Tommy just had an off day, I guess. It's not like CBS will give us any info on those ESP players.
Narcoleptic Jumper 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2006 apparently you'll be able to watch Hewitt/Gasquet on www.usopen.org. "First ever US Open webcast". convenient timing.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2006 Amelie just did me a HUGE favor knocking off Sir-ena P.S. East coast people who want to see Gasquet/Hewitt can do so on CNBC.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 5, 2006 Amelie finally lost the "choking" label, IMO. Very impressive to win the 3rd set like she did, against Serena who owned her, and after getting bageled. Watching a fat Serena make at least the SF of USO would have been very depressing as a tennis fan... I thank you, Amelie.
