Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 I totally expect this thread to get lots of stupid responses, but I kinda think i'm weird because I have a hero who I completely look up to and attempt to emulate. Drug problems blah blah...but one day I saw a dude named Matt Hughes fight a guy named Frank Trigg for the second time. I saw Matt get nutshotted, pummeled and almost choked out...only to seconds later deadlift Trigg from the mat and RUN across the ring with him before slamming him in his respected corner, choking him out seconds later. Then TUF 2 started airing. I saw this no bullshit, say what I mean cock strong country boy push his team harder than most of them ever thought possible. Hughes motivated me to calm down my partying, to be a better, more respectful person. He motivated me to get up off my lazy ass and start working out. He motivated me to put everything I had into my work, and be the best I possibly could at it. Now when i'm on the job and I see a 24 inch wide, 20 ft long LVL beam that normally I wouldn't attempt to lift by myself, I picture Hughes in the brink of defeat, staring adversity in the eye and not blinking. Not even once. So I man up and put that LVL up onto the second floor of the house...by myself. Blah this is lame, but does anyone else have a similar person they look up to? Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Some people in my family and others who I know as well. Benoit whose training is among the most intense I've pretty much ever heard of. And of course his all out/every night/never take a night off wrestling style. Lots of people who were passionate at one time lose their drive over the years. Benoit hasn't. Kenta Kobashi for his passion. There are a few other wrestlers as well that are heros to me.

Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 I think it's absurd to declare an athelete, musician or any other celebrity based entity a hero because my definition of hero is probably different then most people. People throw that term around far too much, in the instance of musicians, atheletes and those such, I would classify them as inspirations or idols (more likely) then heroes. I believe heroes to be of different and more respectable status. Role models such as parents, teachers, coaches and those who do significant actions directly towards you are what I classify to be "heroes".

Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted August 31, 2006 I know as a white kid i'll get heat for this, but Tupac's music(as well as Em's and a few other rappers) got me through some tough times in my life. Ain't shit funny about poverty, and when I was a kid it seemed like the only other people who knew about it (or at least TALKED about it openly) were rappers. I was in like 7th grade the first time I got the All Eyez On Me set...and i've been a Pac fan since. I've moved in and out of here several times, but one thing that has stayed on my wall has been my 2 Pac RIP poster...my homey gave it to me as a christmas present (lame right?) in like 8th grade. But yeah, when I hear this Pac lyric: "A place to spend my quiet nights, time to unwind... so much pressure in this life of mine, i've cried at times, I once contimplated suicide, and woulda tried, but when I held that nine all I could see was my mama's eyes, No one knows my struggle, They only see my trouble, not knowin its hard to carry on when no one loves you" I think about that verse every time I get down. It gives me fucking cold chills just typing it.

"Both black and white, are smokin' crack tonight" "They say it's the white man I should fear, but it's my own kind doin' all the killing here." Tons of references like those. Just one more reason he was the realest.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2006 A hero kills people, people that wish him harm. A hero is part human and part supernatural. A hero is born out of a childhood trauma, or out of a disaster, and must be avenged.

They do things of great stature or inspire others. They also need to be brave. That being said, I can honestly refer to one of my three role models as a hero: Mike Weir. His great deed was winning the 2003 Masters, which inspired me to hopefully follow in his footsteps; The bravery in that act was his multiple 6 foot putts for par, nearly all of them in the clutch. By golf standards, that's brave. Bret Hart and Stompin Tom were the other two, by the way.
