The Wonder Years coming to TvTropolis

I know there are some Wonder Years fans here so I thought I'd give people a heads up.

 

So yeah, TvTropolis is apparantly going to start airing the show on September 18th here in Canada. They've got a pretty impressive lineup now with Seinfeld and Ellen. Now let's just hope for the Littlest Hobo.

The Wonder Years is the greatest show off all time...personal opinion. I bet it'll never get put out on DVD, and if it does, it'll probably be some hacked up version with generic music, ala re-released WWE DVDs. Luckily, I have every episode on VHS. Usually once a year or so, I bust em out and watch em all. It's a shame that they'll never be released on DVD, but they wouldn''t work without the music. The episode that gets to me every damn time is the one where Winnie breaks her leg and she's laying up in her bedroom and Kevin climbs the tree and sees her and whispers "I love you." and she whispers "I love you" back and Bob Seger's "We've Got Tonight" is playing. Great stuff.

Similar situation with another 80s TV show set in the 60s, "Tour of Duty." A lot of times the use of a particular song just *made* the scene, but the DVD release uses generic music Even the opening credits music was changed.

There was an episode where Winnie was sick/injured or some such and the major sticking point for me was Kevin sitting under a tree at the end as "My Girl" played over it... is that the same episode?

I don't think so. I believe that episode was one of the early episodes. The one I was referencing was in the middle episodes. The title of it was "New York to Paris", I believe. It was a couple of episodes after Winnie moved across town and she got new friends and was blowing off Kevin and then she got into a car accident and broke her leg.

 

Outside of the kids on the show, I really, really liked Dan Lauria's character. He was great. Another one of my all-time favorite moments on the show was one of the times Winnie dumped Kevin and she went to a party with another guy and Kevin saw em or something like that, so he came home and Kevin's dad was working on the car in the garage, and they bonded and then Kevin started crying and they hugged. There's just so many great moments on that show-both sentimental and funny. I remember this one episode in the later years when Kevin was trying to win Winnie back and he went over to her house with a gigantic stuffed teddy bear and it was awkward...and then when Kevin was in French class with Madeline and she kept speaking French and all he could say back was "Would you like some butter?". Oh, and the episode where Kevin and Paul and the guy from Suburbia and the rest of the guys are playing poker...That was a good one, too.

I gave up on seeing a proper(or any for that matter) release of this on DVD so I hit ebay and picked up the full series on DVD-R for $30

I don't understand why the show isn't on TV. I remember when it was on Nick-at-Nite every morning at 3:30 AM, and then when it was on TNN before it was Spike TV every morning from 10 AM to noon. That's where I got most of the episodes from. Undoubtedly there's a pretty good sized audience that would watch the show, especially since it's so hard to find either on VHS or DVD, and if "Mad About You" and "A Different World" can be on Nick-At-Nite, "The Wonder Years" should also be. I'm surprised that Noggin...or the N...or whatever the network that shows the new Degrassi hasn't jumped on showing "The Wonder Years".

I remember 90210 having their own official cd soundtracks. There were only a couple of hit songs played on 90210 and the rest was generic. Wonder Years had a ton of number one singles and 60's hits from pretty much ever artists.

Yeah, it was one of the earliest ones...toward the end of the first season (maybe the season finale). I think there was something in that episode with Kevin and Becky Slater that caused them to have a little tiff, only for Kevin to freak out when he found out Winnie was sick.

I had a thing for Becky Slater. Then I found out later that she was actually Danica McKellar's sister. I know that Winnie Cooper's still hot, but I haven't seen her sister since she was 12, but I imagine she's still pretty hot as well.

I venture to say your hard drive is as big as your dining room. You probably have like 10 fans on it at all times to keep it from burning a hole in the floor. I didn't know Dell/Compaq/Gateway/etc made 500 Terrabyte hard drives.

About Wonder Years. I'll never forgive Cooper for sleeping around on Kevin that one (two-parter?) episode where I think she was a lifeguard and he saw her with some dude on the beach. Anyone remember this? I think I might have some of the facts wrong.
