NYU 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 The description might be irrelevant to everybody else, but it's not to me.
NYU 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 To celebrate my name finally being changed to a name that everyone already called me anyway, I'm going to post some half-assed feedback. So here we go. Loved Alfdogg's heel interview. I liked the anger he showed towards everybody, whether it was the American fans, Brock Ausstin, or Zack Malibu. And cheap heat sport references are Alf's forte, so it only helps that he plays to his strengths. It's going to be weird to accept Brock Ausstin as a face -- the character just seems like it will be difficult to play that way -- but I'm sure it will be handled well. Theodore Moneymaker! The originality is breathtaking. Almost as good as the name "Brock Ausstin." Still a fan though. Short and sweet promo from Logan Mann. Good way to keep the momentum of the Heavenly Rockers/Sooners feud going. The match following was excellent in establishing the Sooners as an unstoppable tag team. And I'm intrigued with how Big Frank seemed to be calling out Tony specifically. Great brawl between Zack/Rodez and Cortez/Bloodshed in the back. The intensity between the four of them felt real -- just an indication of how well the whole feud has been built up. Bloodshed particularly looked insanely sadistic. Quentin Benjamin vs. Felix Strutter -- Simple match but lots of action. I liked the rapid pinfalls throughout the whole thing. It gave a sense of urgency to the match -- they were looking to end it as quickly as possible and put their team at a major advantage. And the multicolored "U-S-A" chants?? Now that's just inspired. Everyone is angry tonight. Peter Knight keeps the pissed-off streak going by calling out Longdogger Pete. I like how the rivalry between the two guys keeps escalating. A simple loss isn't enough to stop PK. And the six man tag match next week sounds great. That PLUS Drek/Cappa?! omg. The GPX vs. D*LUX -- Match of the Night. PPV quality match, to be honest. Some cool spots here too. The leaping Thesz Press over the chair, triple jump somersault plancha, the mid-air spear. The double stomp across the ladder has to be mentioned too, of course. The feud between these two teams came to a very nice climax here. This thing was completely wild, coupled with the interference from London at the end, so lots of credit here for that. Loved it. Ken Pantera vs. Charlie Moss -- Wow. Lots of matches tonight. I liked how this match contrasted to the earlier USA vs. Canada one. Benjamin/Strutter was more of a fast-paced athletic match. Patera/Moss was more of a plodding, hard-fought one instead. And of course, I was completely shocked that Pantera won, sending the series into a third and final match. Drek/PRL contract signing. Words don't do it justice. Reject vs. Jumbo -- Well, the story of this match wasn't the match itself but what happened afterwards. I liked the debut. Cool, flipping moves have always impressed me -- whether in actual wrestling or e-fed stuff -- so that's a plus. Brock Ausstin vs. Alfdogg -- Good match. The feud between the two has been established for so long now that the matches just seem to write themselves. Neither Brock or Alf will allow themselves to slow down. They will fight as much as they need to in order to beat the other one. I liked the announcement of the Heartland Invitational Chamber of Hell II at the end. Even though I knew about it beforehand....but yeah. And Gunner Sharps?! Where the hell has he been?! The Mad Cappa vs. PRL -- Like the previous match I just mentioned, this is another match that just seems to write itself. The rivalry has been established for so long that all they need to do is go out there, throw their trademarks moves out, and they still have a hell of a match. I actually like the fact that this was kept a little shorter. Seemed much more crisp and easier to read. Popick keeping his lame streak going was cute. Nice ending with the idea of PRL beating Drek at his own game continuing to chug along. The stage is set nicely for the next stage of the TriCappaThon next week. I came up with the TriCappaThon name by the way and I'm incredibly proud of it. Damn...six matches?! SIX?! Only I could randomly pick such a long HeldDown to feedback. KingPK 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 I thought the TriCappaThon was extremely creative, something different from a typical "I'll send my goon after you and if you win, you pick the stip" kind of setup. Real good match, too. I remember EWC saying that he and Cappa laid out their entire feud like a year before it started. That's dedication. But I'll have to agree with NYU and say that NRG/D*LUX was MOTN and a possible HeldDOWN MOTY candidate. KC's on a roll right now. It pretty much started where the AS match left off and took off from there. Alf's been going to town lately. A good opening promo and THREE pretty decent matches? The best of three idea was also another unique way to lead up to the big announcement. WWE's looking like another strong show. We're getting into a nice groove here. I hope everyone's enjoying the buildup to PK/LDP II, because the blowoff....well....you'll see.
Tony149 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 As NYU said, ton of matches this week. It shouldn't be that much of a surprise since the second week after a PPV traditionally is the most packed. And this week's show had just a bit of everything. After the shock of Alf's turn wore off, it's great to see him as a heel again. Heel Alf means the return of cheap heat. Love it. Now that Team Canada have had a chance to speak, I'm becoming more of a fan. Pretty soon they're gonna be giving Team Heyross a run for their money in the most underrate team category. I'm w/NYU in saying face Brock is gonna take a little time getting used to. When Bo went face he had the charisma factor, whereas Brock is just a bad ass. After seeing "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan's time in Mid-South/UWF (when he didn't suck!), a tough-as-nails bad ass can work. Backstage brawl featuring Zack and The Wildcards: I've been on a Mid-South/UWF kick recently, as evident by my constant mentionings, but now I finally understand the sense of realism people said Watts had. That segment was a perfect example. Intense. The matches throughout the night involving Team Canada/Alf-Team Heyross/Brock rocked, man. Alf seems more motivated than usual for this storyline. Or maybe he just has everything well planned. Maybe he's had it all along, and since I can hardly remember what I wrote two weeks ago it could've slipped my mind, but Knight appears to have developed more of a fire in recent weeks. I guess being thrown into an ocean does that to you. Words cannot describe the Hooligan street fight. To piggyback on NYU's comments, PPV caliber indeed. Candidate for TV Match of the Year. The banter between PR and Drek Stone made what are overplayed contract signings stand out. TriCappaThon is a pretty neat gimmick and tagline. Reject made a huge stride in reestablishing himself with that win over Jumbo. (Yeah, it's getting pretty late, but with the stuff I have to write next week I need to get my feedback out of the way) Another PPV caliber match on free HD TV in Alf/Brock. Good stuff, as usual from the two. Mega announcement at the end. Oklahoma! Although hearing Watts say he's from Texas is pretty funny. You can always count on PR to deliver. The fact the match was a more streamline version of the PR/Cappa feud made it even better. The guys are showing lots of creativity w/the 3 match series from Alf and the TriCappaThon. Match of the Night: Hooligan Street Fight Dialogue of the Week: "Somebody steal your cannoli? Swipe your soccer ball? You upset the Sopranos aren’t going to be on for another couple of months? Is that it, buddy?" -- PR
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 ...Watts isn't from Texas? Whoops.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2006 On GPX/D*LUX, the reason it was PPV calibre was because the PPV match was squash match calibre. That was (more or less) the match I'd planned on, before being dumb enough to write that and Landon/Leon in a weekend. Doi!
