Guest Posted June 9, 2002 Report Posted June 9, 2002 I'm thinking of picking up one of the WCW N64 games, but what's the one to get? I know where I can get some of them for cheap, but I still want to make sure I'm getting a good game. What's the opinion around here? Thanks in advance.
Guest mesepher Posted June 9, 2002 Report Posted June 9, 2002 you need to pick up WCW/ nWo Revenge... it has a plethora of wrestlers to choose from... and it's a great multiplayer game. WCW World Tour is also a lot of fun... but Revenge is the updated version. those are the only two I have played so..
Guest Insanityman Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Pick up Revenge, lots of wrestlers and fun multi-player. Watch the introduction... first time I saw it right when I got into video games I was in shock, lol.
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Get WCW/nWo Revenge. To this day, it probably has the best *official* roster in any wrestling game, and it uses the WM 2000/No Mercy engine (just an earlier version) so it plays well too.
Guest Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Revenge all the way. You might still be able to pick it up new cheap. Avoid Nitro though, even Nintendo Power called it terrible.
Guest alfdogg Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Like everyone else is saying, you gotta go Revenge. My favorite guys to use are Chavo, Saturn, and pretty much any of the made up guys.
Guest converge241 Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Nitro ***shudder** revenge is bad-ass i still bust that out with friends once in a while, were we renamed all the wrestlers, and have battle royals for $$$$
Guest Renegade Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Cant go wrong with Revenge. Pyschosis 4 life!
Guest Insanityman Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Did I mention that the Revenge game has easy and very nice reversals?
Guest Flyboy Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 WCW/nWo Revenge, my friend... I had World Tour, but not Revenge and I regretted it ever since.
Guest the 1inch punch Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Did we mention revenge rules, and benoit rules, and i made him thw world cxhampion, and only last night did i actually load it up (this thread brought back such memories, "sniff") for the first time in ages and beat hogan in 3 minutes
Guest Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 I'm just repeating the sentiments of everyone else, but WCW/nWo Revenge is all you need. I would say WCW/nWo World Tour, but Revenge is the updated version of that, so what's the point? Unless you really do have a desire to play as Steven Regal or Ric Flair, both of which are unavailable in Revenge. You can definitely pick both games up for cheap though, if you want them both. WCW Mayhem is ok for a first effort by EA, but it plays similarly to the Smackdown series, so I don't know what that does for you. Last I played it though, I remembered problems with the collision detection, and when you thought you were in a good range and position to grapple a guy, you'd completely miss. There also weren't as many moves as in Revenge, such as the Springboard stuff, and keeping a guy down for top rope moves was a problem. The CAW mode is ok for appearances and music, but you can't select your own moves. Commentary is ok, if a bit repetitive at times, and it's presented by Tony Schiavone and I think, Bobby Heenan. Includes a number of backstage areas that you can fight in. Give this a rental, if you feel. I've never played it, but WCW Backstage Assault had the most up to date roster of all the WCW games (before WCW was bought by WWF), featuring names like Vampiro, Lance Storm, 3 Count, Chris Candido and Shane Douglas. This was the second effort by EA. Criticisms were that there wasn't even a ring to fight in, but instead a number of backstage areas in which you could interact with different objects, and the character models were horrible. CAW mode was reportedly better than the previous game, but the upsides weren't enough to make this game worth a buy, or even a rental. Unless you want to laugh at how funky it was, avoid it like the plague, along with WCW Nitro... It's what I did. My advice would be to stick with WCW/nWo Revenge, along with WCW/nWo World Tour.
Guest Posted June 11, 2002 Report Posted June 11, 2002 I agree! Definitely Revenge. It leaves a lot to be desired in graphics, but the entrances and the actual gameplay kick ass. Plus the wrestlers wear their title belts! It's a small cosmetic thing, but it adds to the overall coolness of the game.. Though, I never understood why THQ/AKI had guys wearing the belts in this game, but not in the WWF ones.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 13, 2002 Report Posted June 13, 2002 Backstage Assault is horrible.. Sadly, it is Russo and Mcmahons dream of what wrestling can be... *shudders* Revenge is cool, not JUST for the masks, not JUST for the wikked game play, not JUST for Yuji Na-fuckin-gata, not JUST for La Parka, not JUST for CHEAT TO WIN shirts, but above all else... HAN ZO FN' MON! Sasuke + Hayabusa = HZM. Plus Hawk Hana is Genichiro Tenryu Brickhouski is Kawada Jeckel is Dr Death ANY OTHERS?? Plus you can knock out with any move, which is killer swank.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 13, 2002 Report Posted June 13, 2002 EWF === AKI Man / THQ Man (Partially based on Mitsuharu Misawa) Shogun (Real name: Toshiaki Kawada) Executioner (Real name: Kenta Kobashi) Dr. Frank (Jumbo Tsuratu) Jekel (Real name: Dr. Death Steve Williams) Maya Inca Boy (Real name: Akira Taoe) DAW === Hawk Hana (Real name: Genichiro Tenryu) Kim Chee (Real name: Koji Kitao) Dake Ken (Real name: Atsushi Onita) Brickowski (Real name: Mil Mascaras) Ming Chee (Real name: Tarzan Goto) Han Zo Mon (Real name: Hayabusa)
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Posted June 13, 2002 Report Posted June 13, 2002 Though, I never understood why THQ/AKI had guys wearing the belts in this game, but not in the WWF ones. In No Mercy, the champs wore the belt on the way to the ring, but only over the shoulder and not round the waist.

Guest redbaron51 Posted June 13, 2002 Report Posted June 13, 2002 Plus when anybody from the nWo came out with a belt had nWo spray painted on it. That only happened once. Current champs WCW Heavyweight: Saturn US Heavyweight: Booker T TV Title: Han Zo Man Tag Title: Scott Steiner and Ultimo Dragon Cruiserweight champion: Rey Mysterio Jr.
Guest caboose Posted June 13, 2002 Report Posted June 13, 2002 I would love to disagree with everyone, but the bottom line is this: WCW/nWo Revenge Rulez~!
Guest redbaron51 Posted June 13, 2002 Report Posted June 13, 2002 I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it, but Revenge had a fricken Awesome intro (Hell almost all wrestling games made by THQ were awesome on N64, at the intro). If you wait till the middle when the screen is gray, and i think its Giant, Hogan and Hart in the picture, press A button and the belts become silver.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted June 14, 2002 Report Posted June 14, 2002 Yes, I agree. Even to this day I enjoy picking Bret Hart and absolutely murdering Goldberg until he is a bloody mess and watching him tap in the middle of the ring to the greatest move of all time. Not to mention great matches with Raven/Saturn vs Benoit/Malenko. The roster owns all and it is just an all around awesome game.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted June 15, 2002 Report Posted June 15, 2002 What was so bad about WCW Nitro? I knew people who liked WCW Nitro for PS1, and I was under the impression that Thunder on PS1 and Nitro on N64 were just updated versions of the game. I didn't really like Nitro for the PS1, but I thought the promos were kind of funny, even if they had nothing on the crappy Warzone promos.
BUTT Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Not your typical Incandenza thread, huh? I'm sorry. This will be my only old thread bump, I swear. It's my birthday.
claydude14 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Ugh, I remember dropping $60 on Nitro expecting it to be the same engine as World Tour and Revenge. The only "fun" I remember getting out of the game was wrestling in a bee-themed stadium with Giant head mode on.
daileyxplanet Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Does anyone remember the PS1 game WCW vs. The WORLD? That was a fun game. I wonder why the AKI engine went to the 64 and never came back to PS... Hmm.
CBright7831 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 I think WCW Mayhem was the first wrestling game to feature backstage brawling.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 I wanted WCW Nitro for Playstation, so I bought a Playstation for it. I thought the graphics were better, plus everyone could powerbomb everyone. When you finished title mode, you got a nice FMV. And the Outsider's Edge is the hardest move to perform in the history of video games. WCW/nWo Revenge rocked. I still play it to beat high scores.
