OAO Retrogaming Thread.

Not much of a rumor as there were lawsuits being bandied about back in the day, so Capcom changed the names around to avoid that whole mess.

God I remember I played SF1 maybe six times before I just walked away from it in disgust. Thank the gods that the gameplay was much improved in SF2, and especially in SF2CE. I remember becoming such a Sagat mark, especially after I mastered the Tiger Uppercut.

I just might get Capcom Classics 2 today, just for the hell of it.

I got both games today but haven't done a lot. I played the Capcom trivia version of the dragon slaying trivia game. I like that for the regular version of the game ("Quiz and Dragons"? It's not coming to me at the moment) there is a disclaimer in the booklet stating you must try to answer the questions as if it is 1992 due to some answers no longer being right.

So, in playing both of the Street Fighter games on CCC2, I'm finding both incredibly difficult (for different reasons) even on the easiest setting. I'm glad the goals for unlocking things aren't so difficult this time. What was the goal for unlocking some art last year... beat SF:CE on the hardest difficulty without losing a round? That alone made me use the "unlock everything" code the day I found it. I also find the placement of the cover of an old GamePro magazine in the background of at least two unlockables (Street Fighter hints, the only thing I've bothered with so far) kind of odd.

Street Fighter 1 isn't so hard once you get past the really crappy controls. I beat it in like 15 minutes, most of which was continuing on Sagat. On the easiest difficulty. Good Lord it sucks.

Although yeah, Super Turbo is, was, and always will be pretty brutal. That's the original arcade game A.I. in all its glory.

I've been playing Beetle Adventure Racing for the N64 because my gf loves this game. I like it too despite being an arcadey type racing game.

My main problem is the fact the opponents in SF can beat you with 4 hits, and I'm not a fan of the blocking. So far I've been jumping and kicking until I win, but this Lee character is destroying me. I suppose I could try doing special moves (instead of them just happening by accident) since I now realize the control input is not the same as the SF2 games.

Super Turbo's AI is legendary. Blanka's throw can drain like half your life in 2 seconds. Of course if you do it to the CPU they can mash out just as fast.

I've been playing SNES SimCity on the Wii's Virtual Console. Damn do I still love that game. I still have yet to ever get a town population to 500,000 though.

I got the new Nintendo Power, which profiles all of the current VC releases...and then some.

Based on the VC section, I can easily deduce what should be on tap for the last part of the year.

TG16 Dungeon Explorer

TG16 R-Type

Genesis Space Harrier 2

NES Urban Champion

Genesis Toejam & Earl

NES Baseball

NES Tennis

Only 7? I think there's one more, and the UK has already gotten DKC. So I suspect DKC will be coming either this Monday or Christmas.

...Urban Champion, though?!

2 more Animal Crossing games.

R-Type I might get. Urban Champion all my friends loved when we were kids but I just never thought it was very fun.

I've been playing a lot of Link to the Past Lately. Those fucking hands that yank you out of a room have to be the most annoying thing ever. With my non existant attention span I got nailed by those fucking things like 20 times last night while playing the 3rd dark world dungeon. Took me forever to actually get to the boss' room.

My dad found a handheld NeoGeo with a shitload of fighting games. How much is this worth.

Just the system, because I'm curious.

I've never been all that into handhelds, but the NGPC was pretty cool. The only reason I was interested in it was because it was from SNK. The two Metal Slug titles were solid. The fighting games were also fun, even though I found it hard to do some moves with the small joystick-like D-Pad. I liked SNK vs. Capcom more than the console CvS.
