Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2007 Hell, I don't think the Texans could find any good takers for THEIR pick last year when everyone was creaming themselves over Reggie Bush, Vince Young, and Matt Leinart, all of which were seen as legitimate #1 picks. That was the rumor on the sports radio stations around here. All the moron callers were talking about how if we had wanted Mario we could have traded down and gotten him, but they forget that A) No one was offering anything and B) the Saints (If memory serves) had decided on Mario at #2 if Bush went #1. Apparently everyone had made up their minds that the Texans were going to take Bush at 1, and any trade discussions were just a way to pressure Bush into signing a contract before the draft (he had turned down basically the same contract that Mario took). So, in effect, the more the Texans said "No, we really are open to trading the first pick!" the more other teams said, "Suuuuuuuuuuuuure you are." Plus, since it was a top heavy draft, no one wanted to trade a high pick because they were still going to get an impact player where they were. All in all, a bad combination of factors that trapped the Texans.
teke184 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2007 The Saints weren't going to take Mario... they were going to take AJ Hawk. The Saints were confident in having Will Smith and Charles Grant at DE, even if Grant may leave via Free Agency this year. LB was a bigger concern and AJ Hawk would be the leader of the new Dome Patrol if he'd been drafted.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2007 Eh, not what I heard, but it's all in the past. I'm convinced that all Houston area sportswriters are idiots, and John McClain is their king.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2007 Junior TE Greg Olsen has declared for the 2007 NFL Draft, according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus, and should be the first TE taken. Any teams in desparate need of a TE?
Guest Legalise Drugs and Murder Report post Posted January 2, 2007 The two that come to mind immediately are both in the playoffs, I think. Chicago and the New York Jets. More youth on the line and a good 7-20 yard safety net over the middle of the field.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2007 Olsen's very good, but not quite consistent enough to be called great yet. He should be available for one of them.
teke184 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2007 The Saints could use a starting TE as well, but it wouldn't be a 1st round pick because of their needs on defense. (They sorely need a play-making LB (preferably an ILB to stop the run), a DT to go with Hollis Thomas, and a CB to replace Fred Thomas)
Gert T 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2007 Marshawn Lynch, RB Cal had declared for the NFL Draft. I see him being the second RB taken behind Adrian Peterson if he comes out. Love to see him around at the #18 pick so the Bengals can be a little more versatile in their backfield as Chris Perry cannot seem to play more than 5 games a year. Anybody have tape of how Joe Thomas played against Michigan this year? I haven't seen much of his games and was wondering how he did against NFL caliber competition. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 3, 2007 LB was a bigger concern and AJ Hawk would be the leader of the new Dome Patrol if he'd been drafted. Shit, I'm glad that didn't happen! Marshawn Lynch, RB Cal had declared for the NFL Draft. Not if the Pack take him first at #16. Ahman Green is not only getting old, but he had a pretty awful year this year as well, and has regained fumblitus that cost us a couple games this year. Even Vernand Morency was running harder than Green was. I mean, Ahman still has that great speed, but his vision, his agility, and definitely have strength have all gone downhill and Green Bay would be well off to go with a strong running back, if not, a really good defensive tackle or safety, though I think they can get those in latrer rounds. Although as a non-Cal Pac-10 fan, it'd be weird cheering on an all-Cal backfield with Rodgers and Lynch in place. At least Aaron will have some familiarity on offense, which would be nice for him. Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2007 Brady Quinn has reportedly expressed desire to play for Cleveland when he enters the NFL. Good for them, they could use a marketable quarterback with more than journeyman ability.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2007 Question: Will Nate Morton, WR of Wake Forest, be a good NFL prospect, and if so, will he be drafted? If so, where do you guys see him being drafted to?
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 JaMarcus Russell has the strongest arm in ALL of football in my opinion.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2007 This WR class is deep and sick with talent... My current Top 10 1: Calvin Johnson 2: Sidney Rice 3: Dwayne Jarrett 4: Robert Meachem 5: Dwayne Bowe 6: Jeff Samardzija 7: Craig Davis 8: Aundrae Allison 9: Johnnie Lee Higgins 10: Andre Caldwell Also a lot of sleepers too including: Jason Hill (Washington State), Steve Smith (USC), Dallas Baker (Florida), Steve Breaston (Michigan), Rhema McKnight (Notre Dame), and David Clowney (Virginia Tech). I'd love to see the Patriots nab a guy like Johnnie Lee Higgins or Steve Smith with their second pick in the 1st round to give depth behind Chad Jackson, Reche Caldwell, and Jabar Gaffney. Given Belichick's love for Florida and Fresno State, I could see a guy like Andre Caldwell or Paul Williams being selected as well at WR.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2007 Right now the only question mark with Russell is his decision making abilities. His arm they love, his accuracy they are fine with, they love the way he works through his progression and doesn't focus on one receiver but they are really worried about when and why he'll make the throws he makes. Course you have to worry about that with ALL college quarterbacks so it shouldn't hurt him at all. I cannot see a reason why Oakland would not take him with their pick. Granted, they need an offensive line and a running back of the future. But they should really think hard about this cause Russell feels like the perfect fit for them and they haven't had much success with drafting linemen early. If I had to pick between Quinn and Russell, I'd take Russell in a heartbeat.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2007 Seattle should either: A) Invest in an O-Lineman B) Receiver

If I had to pick between Quinn and Russell, I'd take Russell in a heartbeat. One of the problems with Russell is that sometimes he's determined to get it to his receiver of choice, Dwayne Bowe, no matter what kind of coverage he's in. That's been less of a problem this year, as it seems they've taught him more about doing check-downs from his top choice to whatever open options he has. Last year, he'd force a pass to someone like Bowe (typically for an INT) or wait around until he took a bad sack. This year, ESPECIALLY since the Tennessee game, he's been starting to scramble if there are no open options and he sees a hole. While he's not a rush-first QB like Vick, it adds some dimension to his game if he's able to scramble if necessary instead of doing his best Drew Bledsoe impression and standing around until he gets sacked. MFer 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2007 Seattle should either: A) Invest in an O-Lineman B) Receiver Not so sure about the receiver part. Maybe in the later rounds, yes, but I wouldn't go first round. When I look at Branch, Jackson, Hackett, Engram, and Burleson, the Seahawks have the best core of WR's from 1-5 with the possible exception of the Patriots, whose receivers are made better by Brady anyways. I would put a run-stuffing DT as their other main priority.
The Niggardly King 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2007 I hope Matt Millen drafts another wider receiver (Calvin Johnson) that he doesn't need with the 2nd overall pick.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2007 Reggie Nelson seems to be the most hyped safety at the moment, with LaRon Landry right behind him. Personally, I feel the best all-around safety in this draft is the guy that has been lost in the shuffle, Michael Griffin out of Texas. I certainly wouldn't be against him for the Panthers in the first round.

Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2007 Wouldn't Peterson want to stick around for a year and prove his durability and put up the godly numbers we know he can, maybe win a national title, or is OU not particularly in contender shape for 2007?
Guest Report post Posted January 12, 2007 Peterson is going to be drafted pretty highly, but as far as I'm concerned, the guy has serious durability issues. Injuries find him in the oddest ways.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2007 Everyone seems to love him, but few have actually seen him play to appreciate it. The NFL isn't full of dummies. He's missed significant time in two different seasons for pretty structurally damaging injuries already. There's either a conditioning issue at OU or he's fragile. Boy's too pretty to be a hoss franchise back.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2007 Also, given his injury history if I were AP, I'd be concerned about returning and suddenly getting another injury that could be season ending. Doing so could really plummet his draft stock next year whereas this year, it's strongly believed he'll be a Top 10 pick at least, Top 15 if injuries really scare some teams off. I'm curious to see where Darius Walker winds up, as he's been compared to Kevin Faulk quite a bit, which I can definitely see. He also kind of reminds me a little of Lamont Jordan in Oakland too. I could see him landing somewhere in the late 3rd, early 4th round depending on how his Combine numbers are.
