teke184 Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 DT Glenn Dorsey, a consensus 1st-round pick, has opted NOT to enter the draft and, instead, return for his senior year at LSU. The decision was made due to leg injuries that Dorsey feels would have negatively impacted his draft value. As it stands now, he won't need surgery but it is questionable whether he'll be ready in time for LSU's spring practices in a few months.

Led his side to the game winning drive and the winning 2 point conversion pass. QB Jared Zabransky - Displayed good scrambling ability, including a 15 yard run, as well as solid arm strength to throw the 40-45 yard bomb. DE C.J. Ah You - Had an outstanding game. Had a sack and followed that up by nearly blocking a punt on special teams, which will improve his stock to the scouts. DE Mel Purcell - Had a good game, including several plays getting to the QB, and a half sack. CB Willie Gaston - Seemed to be around the ball a lot in coverage, and did well covering his assigned WRs including a couple nice deflections of passes in the end zone. WR Chris McFoy - Seemed to be a favored target by Zabransky and had several catches, including a few key ones towards the end of the game. The passing game started taking preference in the 2nd half so the RBs were used sparingly although Reggie Meriweather came up big on the last drive with a few key catch and runs. RB/FB Nate IIao also did well, scoring a TD off a catch in the 1st quarter and displaying nice power. Could be a 5th/6th round pick if the scouts liked his ability enough. RB Arkee Whitlock and RB Justise Hairston also did well for the I-AA RBs although, again, the running game wasn't featured all that much so their ability to impress was somewhat limited. Hairston had a good catch and run though, showing he can be a possible tool in the flat. QB Paul Thompson was also working out as a WR and had a couple catches, using his frame well to catch a sideline out in one catch.

They really need someone to play that role or their offense just stops working for some reason. Not like he's not used to splitting out as a WR already and you know he can throw the ball deep. I believe it's the perfect fit for him. Brennan will have to convince people at the combine that he is not just a product of the system. If he can't, he'll fall to a fifth or sixth round pick. Teams like the Rams, Packers, Chiefs (Brodie Croyle...yeah right), and Dolphins are just a few I can see taking a chance with him.

The normally spectacular left side had a down year (including Faneca, who somehow forgot how to pass block), Hartings is starting to show his age and his knees are starting to wear down, Simmons has always been a joke, and Starks was hurt part of the year (although, he had a few stellar games, including absolutely shutting down Julius Peppers by himself). It has nothing to do with losing ARE. If they draft this kid you're talking about (granted, never heard of him), it's going to be because of his WR skills (which, it sounds like he isn't primarily a receiver, which precludes him being drafted before R3). The Steelers' needs in the draft are: O-line (pick a position) LB (Porter's on the downside of his career, Foote never was on the upside of his career, Farrior's wearing down and can still be effective, but needs help) DL (Depth is extremely poor, Kiesel may not be the answer at RDE) WR (Ward is still a force, but he's slowing down; Santonio Holmes will break out, Nate Washington will be a good 3WR for a while, but it wouldn't hurt to have another weapon here) CB (Ike Taylor might've found his calling as a Rastafarian, which leaves us with two solid second corners (B-Fad and Townsend), an underachieving, overpaid nickel back, and little else after) BPA (at 15, hell, just wing it. If there's a stud sitting there, you've got to take him) I'll be upset if the Steelers draft RB/OG/OC in the 1st round, barring a trade down. They absolutely do not need another Bettis; Parker does the job very well, as evidenced by his TD total. Dookie Davenport is functional as a fatback. OG/OC are positions that can be addressed in the 2nd round or late 1st; if you're going to do that, you don't reach for someone at 15.

I didn't get to watch much CFB this year, so I can't confirm, but people on a Steeler messageboard I browse mention he spends more time in the training room than on the field. If that's the case, he could drop. Williams dropping last year was a bit predictable because of his attitude problems, but I'd imagine you'd need a legit reason for someone to drop. Who knows, maybe this is it. I'd just be much more comfortable drafting twice in the 2nd round and picking him at 24 than 15.

It's because they have a fairly decent young receiver core with Driver (okay he's getting on in years, but still good to go), Jennings, and Ruvell Martin. No need to waste a first round pick on a guy like Ginn, who might still be available in the 2nd round anyways. Green Bay needs a young stud at running back along with some crazy John Henderson type motherfucker on the defensive line and maybe some safety help as well. Offensive line help is always good as well, so that leaves the receiver position.. rather pointless.

Ohio State used him in all kinds of ways because his speed and acceleration are nothing short of phenomenal. I can only imagine what he'd be like once he's had a year or two of NFL conditioning and experience. Ginn's not a guy you build an offense around or anything, but he's too much of a physical freak to pass up. It'd give the Packers an extra "hold your breath and drop your jaw" dimension on offense that's lacking right now. If his dumbassed teammates hadn't mobbed his ass for scoring a touchdown with about 59:45 left in the whole freakin' game the BCS championship would have been closer. Florida was playing freakish defense, but having someone who could outrun everyone on that side of the ball would have made it more of a contest. Any time I've seen the guy play he makes me think of a taller Steve Smith. Reverses, endarounds, slants, kick returns, screens, the dude's a straight-up playmaker. Also factoring into this is that Favre will need more than just good help to get that team to the playoffs. Should he leave, whoever takes over is going to need even more assistance and Ginn's done nothing but blow me away since I first saw him during the 2004 season. Besides, it's only one pick out of seven.

Look at Reggie Bush. He was supposed to be so speedy and shifty, all he's done until a few games to go in the season was high step and shuffle his way to 7 yard losses.
