EVIL~! alkeiper Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/...your-4-starter/ This was quite an enlightening article. Like the author says, you usually expect a #5 starter to post an ERA a bit better than five. Certainly not above six, but that is what most teams get. With these numbers in mind, Yankee fans, are you quick to trade a guy with a 5.00 ERA when he makes 33 starts?
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Yes. Send him to the glue factory.
2GOLD Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I've learned a long time ago that the expectations of Yankees fans do not exist in any realm of reality.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Would you pay a broken down 42-year old $16 million for an ERA over 5?
Guest Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 All this talk about Randy Johnson makes me so happy that the Dodgers didn't trade for him. He'd be our #5 starter, only because Billingsley would have to be moved in a deal.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 The Os #5 starters compiled an ERA of 8.45 last year, no other team was over 8..lol..yet they were pretty solid through 4 (under 5). That 5th spot featured just about everyone including Russ Ortiz and Bruce Chen and guys from AA and AAA so that wasnt much of a surprise. As for the Os #4 starter, I have no idea who it will be but it wont be Bedard/Cabrera/Benson so odds are it might be Loewen or Wright.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 It's not like Randy Johnson is a young guy with electric stuff and a bright future ahead of him, years from arbitration, who is struggling to adapt to major league hitting.
Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 I don't have a #4 starter on my team; it goes 1-5-5-5-5.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 I'm trying to figure out what team that is, but I can't.
