I'm just in the pool with Greg Norman and other golfers who think that women shouldn't be allowed to play on the PGA Tour period. Men can't play on the women's tour (and I'm not advocating that one do it) because its strictly written in their bylaws that they can't. I just see the Wie stuff as shameless publicity.

Then again, I probably wouldn't have as big of a gripe about Wie or even Sorenstam when she played in the Colonial IF they QUALIFIED to enter the field. I remember a woman did that (Suzy something I think...) at the Canon Greater Hartford Open in 2003 and the male pros didn't say anything because she earned her spot in the field rather than having a sponsor hand her a spot.

Suzy Whaley...

I used to think they way you just described, but now it doesn't bother me. It is great publicity indeed, and if a tournament like the John Deere can get another 25,000 fans through the gates that week, no harm....But as I said above, it seems to be detrimental to women's golf.

The way Whaley qualified was a joke, though. Playing from the women's tees. I think the main reason the pros didn't whine is because they knew she had no chance. Whereas Wie has the ability to make a cut, and the ability to show men up with her length.

There will be lots of publicity if women get a sponsor's exemption, or if they try to qualify like Wie did for the Open. It will always be a factor. But, if a woman is good enough to play on the PGA, then they should get the opportunity. That can't be denied when PGA events have 3x-5x the purses.

Forget Michelle Wie, this sixteen year old kid Tadd Fujikawa is tearing it up right now and is tied for 6th right now after two consecutive -4 days. My gut says he might fall apart tomorrow but it'd be quite a story for the tour if a sixteen year old kid won tomorrow. Then again, everyone would just annoint him as the "next Tiger" or something.

I also see Paul Azinger's name on the top of the leaderboard. I had a feeling he might do well this week since he knows he doesn't have a cushy announcer's job to turn to anymore and is going to have to play his ass off to keep his card.

Azinger has always done well in this event, so it's not a surprise.

I've grown tired of the "OMG someone is so young" storylines. Especially in golf. Like there's any hurry.

I don't like Howell. Go, Luke Donald.

Howell's becoming quite a choke artist. Good. He's ugly. And gives off that snobby rich boy Mickelson vibe. With 200 less pounds.

I liked Goydos reaction after winning. He never thought he had any chance. I like when the average Joe Schmo golfers get their week in the sun.

Him and Federer. They must plan their evil ways on us plebeians when they meet, and watch each other destroy all competitors.
