GreatWhiteNope Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 http://www.pwinsiderxtra.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=5190&p=1 WORLD-1 Wire for January 8, 2007 Big News! Results from Rebirth Or Destruction and MORE! Corino Regains AWA World title! The Trouble King Steve Corino regained the AWA World heavyweight championship last night at Rebirth Or Destruction in Pottstown , PA defeating Ric Converse in a great, but controversial match that saw Converse filing an immediate protest. Corino set Converse up for the Lariat but ducked just in time and right in front of referee Bryce Remsberg. Converse then kneed Corino in the back knocking the referee out of the ring. Sterling James Keenan ran in and assisted Converse into piledriving Corino. Matt Bennett, another W-1 referee, ran in to make the count but Corino kicked out. Ricky Landell came out and fought SJK off while Converse went for his patented Richter Scale finisher. Corino landed on his feet, Converse went for a clothesline but Corino caught and rolled him in for a Kido Clutch to become the new champion! Converse immediately protested to original referee Bryce Remsberg seemed to favor Converse. But Pro-Wrestling WORLD-1 officials Curt Lemon and Jody Peterman met today via conference call with other AWA members and they have recognized Corino as the new AWA World champion. BUT Converse and many other AWA members are claiming that the match should have ended in a no-contest the moment the first referee was down and the title still belongs to Converse. AWA President Dale Gagne will look at the footage this week and get with the Advisory Committee and make a formal decision but Steve Corino WILL defend the AWA World championship next week against Takao Omori and Ikuto Hidaka in Tokyo , Japan !
daileyxplanet Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I wish so badly Corino would go to TNA.
Dobbs 3K Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I wish so badly Corino would go to TNA. Why? He'd just be one more guy they can't figure out what to do with, right now.
daileyxplanet Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Probably mostly because he's one of the few pre-TNA post-WCW NWA Champions that are marketable.
razazteca Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 yeah if Steve Corino was NWA World Heavyweight Champion he could be defending it at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan.
JHawk Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Aren't finishes like that one ofthe main reasons the AWA folded in the first place?
Dobbs 3K Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Yes. It's funny if you go to the main AWA website, they list people like Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan on their roster. That's one of my big pet peeves about indy feds. It's like "Oh yeah, Mick Foley worked as a special referee on a show five years ago, so we get to list him on our site".
Corkscrew_Senton Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I wish so badly Corino would go to TNA. Have you seen Corino lately? He's got a rather large gut and his work in the ring isn't anywhere near what it was in 2000 ECW.
The Buzz Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Meh, he's lost a lot of weight in the last year, and I think hes a smarter worker personally.
