Wyld Cannon 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2007 My company is giving away CRT monitors. I have a flat screen at home but I was wondering if it would be at all beneficial to have dual monitors. I think it would be cool since i'm constantly watching wrestling on my computer, but sometimes i have to minimize it because i'm doing other things as well. I know you need to have a dual output video card, i just don't know if I have one. Is it standard (my computer is from 05 or 06) or do I need to get a new one? Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2007 I have dual monitors at work...my laptop and then a regular monitor. It's a tad excessive, but it's kinda nifty. I can have one program up that i always use on one monitor and do everything else on this monitor, rather than having to minimize/maximize all day long. I couldn't answer you on the dual card thing. If it''s not too pricey and too much of a hassle to setup, I'd go for it.
Jaxxson Mayhem 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2007 All you need is a video card that supports dual monitors (and i think most do). This is what I have... http://www.compusa.com/products/product_in...uct_code=343566 It supports dual monitors.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 26, 2007 I currently have a dual monitor setup, as a graphics and video editor it's useful to have one. I have my regular 15" LCD PC monitor, but I was looking for a good small, cheap, HDTV, and ended up getting a 19" LCD HDTV that had a D-Sub/VGA input. I already had onboard video on my computer, and an nVidia card as well, so I have my two "monitors" next to each other, one of which can turn into a TV at the press of a button on the side. While I primarily got it for video/graphics editing, I've found it to be extremely useful for everyday computing tasks. Just extending my computer desktop to both sides has been great, and I have this wallpaper changer with this huge library of images I've collected over time, so my TV for the most part always has a picture there while I work on the smaller monitor. I also have my Google Desktop and its widgets on that side of the screen, which I can of course hide and use anytime I want. It's extremely practical, say I might be talking to some people on IM, I'll have IM windows in one window tabbed and over on my Westinghouse 19", and I'll have Firefox or MS Word or whatever maximized on my other monitor. Or, if I put in a movie or whatever to watch, I'll have it playing on the big monitor and move my IM windows to the small one. One you go with two, it's hard to go back. I'm actually looking at possibly getting a video card that supports dual monitors later on so I can get a triple display going with one of those sexy 32" Apple HD Cinema displays later on. Pegasus Kid 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2007 I think Dual Monitors really come down to how busy you are on your PC. I have a dual monitor setup but more often than not the second monitor is there only for MIRC. It comes in handy when I'm watching TV on one monitor and surfing on the other but otherwise it's just an overindulgence. If you don't need it and you have to go through a lot of work to pull it off then don't bother.
