Man Who Sold The World

Medical Mary Jane

Recommended Posts

Okay, say you had the opportunity to smoke weed legally (and I'm only speaking/writing to the smokers of the plant here), would you do it? And if you signed up, got the card and everything, what's next? You get a fairly large amount of ganja in the form of brownies, suckers, candy bits, and/or you can just take a plant home and grow it. All legal.

So, if you had the chance to do it, would you? Would... you?

Yeah sure, why not. Although I wouldn't do it all that often so I won't be a burnout or anything, though, that's annoying and feels pointless.

I only ask because I have an opportunity to get it, with a real medical problem (scoliosis). It's a small fee to sign up, and then it's all mine. It's a medical card and I can have up to an 8th in my possession. I have numbers of medical companies here in California (and all around, even as far as Hawaii) that HELP you on your way to getting a card. It's probably been like this for awhile, but this is the first time I've been exposed to this, and I'm baffled. You mean to tell me, I could've been doing this, LEGALLY, for years? I've had scoliosis since I was 16.

On a side note, I'm being told to be careful, because I'd be put on a "list". Now if they are referring to the "list" as in "top of the list around Draft time", then I'm strongly considering just doing it illegally like I've been doing. I'm sure there's got to be some sort of a catch.

Quite frankly, I don't get if you expected more than one answer.

You addressed the question to people who already blaze.....why would the legality of it make it an issue? Unless somewhere on this board there's a fourteen-year-old who's blazing simply to rebel; and I think we'd have flushed him out by now anyway.

If you read anything on NORML's website (they are an organization that supports the reformation of drug laws, particularly for marijuana), you might see dozens of people who might get wrongfully arrested despite the fact they have the legal right to use and possess marijuana. That would be the thing to worry about. The list would be probably a database of people who are allowed to use and possess it, not some kind of evil hitlist that the government has.

If you have a scoliosis condition that's bad enough that a doctor would prescribe you medicinal marijuana, there's no way in hell you're going to get drafted, and if you do, you have a medical condition that would prevent you from serving in any kind of combat, obviously.

Well I don't like weed. It sometimes gets me incredibly paranoid. Also, after a few weeks of semi-regular use, it made me feel really paranoid.

That said, it should be lealized medicinally, for sure. I think It should also just be legal, straight up. Just apply the standards of inebriation that we normally do. Hell, my drug of choice is alcohol, which fucks up 10% of the USA'a population, badly. Ends either their lives (in a meaningful sense) or others'. Alcohol's much worse.

Until the Justice Dept/Bush Admin decides to stop raiding medical marijuana clinics/growers after states pass referendums I would be leery of participation. Much like records of Oxycontin prescriptions, I'm sure that records of marijuana prescriptions are easily obtained by the govt.

You'll probably get in less trouble by buying it from whoever you're already getting it from.

No. Slippery slope, regardless of how much less harmful it is. And the fact it "isn't as bad as" something else shouldn't be grounds for legalizing it.

It's wrong, and you're an idiot. </Mike> I had to put that in, it felt weird to be on the other side of the coin on a weed debate in any way, shape or form.

I do, however, see absolutely no harm in legalizing it medicinally, provided it doesn't become a circus. Decriminalizing it seems fine, cops have more important things to worry about, but I shouldn't be able to walk to a corner store and buy some bud with my pop and chips. I do think that if it was legalized, that's more jobs in growing, marketing, pharmaceuticual, transport, etc.

So, CanadianGuitarist, you would support outlawing alcohol? Keep in mind any answer other than "yes", based on your above views, brands you a hypocrite of the highest order.

I mean, seriously. Can you not see the dischord in your own logic here?

So, the government wants to give you marijuana, which you claim to smoke, yet you're still paranoid?

Reefer Madness.

I don't follow.

The only thing I can think of that would make me a hypocrite is my slippery slope theory, but I still don't see a connection between thinking weed > coke and hypocrisy.

I'm aware of that. I think he was like TheDon, who forgot his password and just made a new name to bug us with.

It'd likely be of poor potency. The Budweiser of pot.

Technically, I'm for the legalization of pot, but I'm very likely paying less for weed now than I would be were it legal—taxes!—and, as Gene said, the legal stuff would be weak, anyway.

I somehow doubt that, things on the black market are more expensive to obtain in general than things that are legally and commonly available.

And I doubt the legal stuff would be weak unless the government had to regulate how potent the THC was. Assuming we go by regulating marijuana like we regulate alcohol, I think the chances would be even greater with independent growers trying to outdo and outsell one another in a now legalized free market, like beer and liquor makers do.
