bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2007 What do you guys think are the good brands I should look for? My budget is $1300 MAX (though ideally 1100 to 1200). PCs only please. My only major spec requirement is 2 GBs of RAM, because apparently Vista is a memory pig. HP? Sony? Toshiba? Everyone tells me to avoid Dell. Will be using it for a little bit of everything, internet, writing, some light Photoshop work, maybe some very light gaming (emulators mostly). Multitasking is a must. Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 Dell has a lot of customizable notebooks so be careful not go over your budget. I have a 7 year old Dell Inspiron and it works. I wouldn't use it to play any games made within the last 5 years but I can surf the net and use Open Office. The battery on the notebook died after 4 years. bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 What kind of reputation does HP have? Anyone know? Their "dv6000t" series looks kinda sharp.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 Avoid HP as well. The only product that HP you should have is a printer, that is all. I have a Compaq though, which is real swank.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 Aren't they the same nowadays? HP and Compaq I'm talking about - same company does both, same/similar construction and stuff.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 HP owns the rights to Compaq pratically, but Compaq is the higher and better model of the two. I haven't had any problems, and other people who have compaq that I know don't have any problems either. I've heard no complaints about Toshiba laptops, and I guess thats the general concenus about them as well.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 We just bought an Acer laptop that is working great so far, but with your budget you can probably get a higher quality brand.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 what do you guys know about Intel vs AMD processors? I know Intel Core 2 Duo's are supposed to be the best, but how much of a drop off do you get if you opt for an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor?
