Actually this is a horror film. Most thrillers are horrors, thriller is used as a way for companies to try to get more money for their films since they feel like horror movies can't make money. It's happened for years. Look at something like Silence of the Lambs, it is a horror film but since it won an Oscar it is considered as psychological thriller. Horror films don't get the respect they deserve.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 I'll watch a suspense thriller over a gore slasher film everytime.
cd213 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 To each his own. I'd rather sit through an independent film over a blow-em-up action film any day. Horror is my favorite genre, and I hate the fact that movie companies do that, say that it's another genre even though it's not. If the movie does bad they will say it's a horror film, if it does great, it's a thriller.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 But where do you draw the line and when do start branching out sub-genres? That said I love the Saw series but then again I consider that a crime mystery thriller like all of the Hannibal movies. Horror movie remakes have been making alot of profit with the Zombie and Chainsaw fare now if this is a success they will say it was because of the lead actors if it completely bombs the studios will blame it on being grindhouse crap. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 So anyways, just got back from the flick.... Pretty good. Fun, entertaining, but pretty short. The flick had plenty of "jumpy" moments, some predictable, others not so much. It's nice to see better actors getting involved in horror movies because it really helps out during dramatic moments. My two major problems with the movie though are... for one, the ending was very abrupt and kind of a let down after everything the film had thrown at the audience over the past 90 mins, ESPECIALLY the fact that Luke Wilson's character survived what looked to be a horrible stabbing the night before. My second big problem is that I really felt the movie jumped the shark when the cop gets killed. I mean, I'm sorry I know I am supposed to suspend my belief, but if a cop is sent out to respond to a call, and he doesn't call back within a reasonable time to ask for help or to say it was a wild goose chase, the dispatcher will end up calling for him, and if they get a dead radio, more cops are on their way. I am thinking possibly that they were going for the small town out in the middle of nowhere, where there is merely a single sheriff to patrol the town. In that case, this can be forgiven Other than those two things, I thought the movie was good.

cd213 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2007 The Saw series and the Hannibal series are both horror films. The same thing goes for M.Night movies and yes even something shitty like Snakes on a Plane. If you are an avid horror freak like I am you can tell what is horror and what is not just by looking at it. No, I'm not saying I'm better then anyone at being able to do tha,t but when you have been watching horror for 21 years and make it your entire life you get to know the things in films to look for. razazteca 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2007 Yeah all of those movies with the exception of Snakes have a plot other than "monster killing spree"
