The Astros went ABOSLUTELY BONKERS~!!!!!! in the 5th inning against Astro Killer Dave Bush. Hunter Pence fouled off about 85 pitches in his first at-bat and then got hit by a pitch. And now they're laying it on in the 6th to bring it to 7-1. Pence got his first hit and scored from first on a double. Hot shit.

Edit: I totally shoulda went to the game tonite. They're giving away stadium blankets and the 'Stros are winning 10-1 in the 6th.

Pence sounds like a poor man's Josh Hamilton. Too bad he didn't start playing another year or he could have won ROY, but that award has already been taken for 2007.

It's always fun going to Yankee Stadium and seeing the Yanks getting killed 11-4

I DVRed the game so what area were you sitting in? I might have to go through and see if there's a bob barron sighting.

I was sitting behind Boston's dugout- Section 12 Box 240 Row H

how far behind the dugout is that? Like how many rows

Relax, buddy. It's April.

By October Josh Hamilton could be facedown in a gutter after 4 straight hours of doing smack off a stripper's ass.

I dunno. Hamilton's been cooling down a bit. He's only hitting .288. And there is the possibility of the "face-down in the gutter/smack off of a stripper's ass" scenario. Do the Marlins have any good rookies? When in doubt, pick the Fish.

He does have a 5 game hitting streak, and he just missed a home run tonight when he hit a ball off the wall in the deepest part of the Pittsburgh park. The problem he's facing now is since he's the only hitter in the Reds lineup worth shit he gets walked or pitched around in tons of situations. The Reds moved him to the 3 hole because he's the only guy on the team who know's how to swing a bat, and because of this he's swinging a little more as pitchers don't mind walking him anymore. Since Adam Dunn has decided to continue to suck ass, and has been moved down to the 7th spot, and since Griffey is a grandpa the Reds pretty much have nothing, and he's easy to walk. Essentially I just want to get through this year, get rid of Dunn, Milton, Hatteberg, have only one year left on Griffey, and dump David Ross. I then take that 30 million per year and spend it entirely on a new offense. Since Hamilton can play any outfield position and I don't care about anyone else, I don't care about positions, just picking out some good players.

No ROY for the Marlins this year. Only rookie in the lineup is Alejandro De Aza and none of the rookie pitchers will be impact.

You wanna dump the Dunn-key? I can understand Milton, Hatteberg, Ross, etc., but Adam Dunn? Sure, he only hits .220, but 100 BB, 40 HRs? How bad is he doing this year?

Yeah, dump Dunn for Hamilton...

All Dunn has done so far this year is hit 5 HR's, .355 OBP, draws lots of walks, and has suddenly turned into Juan Fucking Pierre with the stolen bases so far.

But, Hamilton had a good week. Fuck everyone else.

Does that retarded Right Guard commercial absolutely have to play before each and every MLB.tv highlight? I end up spending nearly as much time watching some ugly, body-odor obsessed goon assault a deer while his ditzy girlfriend looks on as I do catching up on the day's baseball events.

Making personnel decisions based on a month's worth of baseball is how you end up with Dave Ross in the first place.

Replacing a bunch of spots sounds ideal until you remember that you have to give raises to the arbitration guys, stock your bullpen and bench, etc. You can't build an offense through free agency. Looking at the Reds, they have little to offer in the farm system in terms of immediate help. Joey Votto can take over at first base next year, but the rest will have to wait. The Reds should pick up Dunn's option because they won't do better on the market. Dunn strikes out a ton, and that doesn't matter a bit. What he doesn't do is ground into double plays.

The Reds next year, if Josh Hamilton can handle the job, is give him right field and make Griffey the fourth outfielder. Griffey's skating by largely on reputation at this point. Ryan Freel needs to take center because Griffey can't and Hamilton is not an ideal solution there. Players of Hamilton's stature never last in center field. Encarnacion should turn it around and Brandon Phillips should play better. Their tough job this offseason will be finding a solution behind the plate.

The problem is I'm not basing my hatred of Dunn over one month. Here are his stats:

Age 24: Avg. .266 Slg. .569 OPS. .957 OBP .388

Age 25: Avg. .247 Slg. .540 OPS. .927 OBP .387

Age 26: Avg. .234 Slg. .490 OPS. .855 OBP .365

Age 27: Avg. .259 Slg. .482 OPS. .839 OBP .357

Jesus Christ, how the fuck does that even happen without injury. In theory he should be getting better, at this rate what will he be by 30?

As for the rest, Hatteberg is horrible as a starter at first, Milton blows, Griffey is done and Phillips is like watching Willie Mays Hayes play every fucking day. And Ross is beyond horrible, vomit inducing comes to mind.

Josh Hancock, of the Cardinals was killed last night in car crash. I haven't seen a site report but it's on ESPN right now.

That's a horrible blow for that franchise to lose another player to death.

Cardinals mourn loss of pitcher Josh Hancock

Reliever killed in tragic automobile accident Sunday a.m.; tonight's game with Cubs is postponed

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Cardinals were informed this morning by the St. Louis Police Department of the tragic death of pitcher Josh Hancock, 29, who was killed in an auto accident on westbound Highway 64/40 within the city limits.

Cardinals' Manager Tony La Russa informed Josh's father of this tragic event. Major League Baseball representatives have also been notified and tonight's 7:05 p.m. game with the Chicago Cubs has been postponed.

The Cardinals and the St. Louis Police Department will make a brief statement to the news media at 3 p.m. CDT in the Busch Stadium interview room.

Hancock, who is single, has been a member of the St. Louis Cardinals since February of 2006 and helped the team to its 10th World Series title last Fall.

The Cardinals ask that all fans join the team in offering their prayers and condolences to Josh Hancock's family on this very sad day for the Cardinals and Major League Baseball.

Absolutely tragic. Rest in peace, Josh.

It's worse that Tony LaRussa had to be the one to inform him. I couldn't possibly imagine that.

It means he had one year where his stats dropped off slightly. Alexander Rodriguez also did this, and he's the worst player in baseball because of it. So, yeah, you're right.

Or, maybe Dunn will continue to hit 40 HRs per year, ground into 3 DPs despite in 160 games despite being a giant hoss, continue to have a respectable OBP, and be a very valuable player for many years.

But, I guess I just don't understand how it feels to pull for the kid who pissed away all his talent and became a failure, yet having one hot week makes him an inspiration.

Guess A-Rod's back to his old self again. I think Scott Proctor has pitched in every single game so far this year; how has this guy's arm not melted by now?

I'd be all for Dunn signing at a low cost. But I think they can get something better for 13 million a year, and that's what his option is for. Dunn has gotten progressively worse every year at a time when he should be getting better.
