In Credible 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 I just got this off of netflix and watched the entire mini-series in one night (6 hour long episodes). If you haven't heard of this it was on HBO I believe in 2000-2001, and was basically the precursor to The Wire. It's about a true story of a family and neighborhood in Baltimore torn apart from drugs. It follows mainly one family and shows how big of an impact drugs can have on a community. With the look of The Wire this series focuses mainly on the addicts rather than the dealers/police. It's very well done and has several actors from The Wire in it. If you like The Wire, then check out The Corner on DVD.
ZGangsta 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 Nice, I've been meaning to check this out for a while now. It's not "in continuity" with The Wire or anything is it?
Ripper 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 This was based on a true story, as in the characters were real people and such. It was pretty freakin good though. My only complaint is that it seemed like they didn't have that much material to work with and had to stretch random stuff into episodes (thinking of the one with the crackheads getting scrap metal or the one where they were defending their corner from rival gangs). Pretty cool though.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 Yeah, it was a pretty solid mini series. I agree with Ripper though, the shows were kind of thin at times. I think it would have worked better as a 3 or 4 part mini series rather than a six part one. And no, it's not in continuity with The Wire but a few actors from The Wire show up. Most notably (and oddly), Lester Freamon as one of the main crackheads.
