CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 Lyndon Slewidge > Alanis Morissette Seriously, that's my favourite part of watching games in Ottawa. True, but I thought she did a really good job. I actually saw Lyndon in the parking lot on Saturday, meeting fans. In full uniform. On a 25-degree day.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 Pretty dominant first period for the Sens. Outshooting your opponent 13-2 is ridiculous. It's weird how the first two games, Anaheim was contolling everything and getting all of the chances, and everything's just completely reversed itself playing in Ottawa. It's not like this is basketball or something where home advantage is historically significant. If Ottawa plays anything like this the rest of the way though, I really like their chances. OK, you're not allowed to post again.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 Fuck NBC and all this "classless" stuff. Alfredsson was just giving Anaheim a little taste of their own medicine. I thought it was a pretty clever play actually. Not enough time to go for a goal. Might as well give Niedermayer a little stinger.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 Oh, that sucked. I was certain the Sens would have a lot more than one good period in them tonight. Well, Edmonton forced a Game 7 last year after going down 3-1. No reason Ottawa can't do the same.

Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 Fortunately Niedermeyer didn't get hit in the face with that slap shot. On that note, players at the NHL level should really look into wearing the full-face cages like they do in college. I'm sort of surprised they haven't already mandated it, especially considering how many times they've tried to crack down on fighting. What would cut down on fights more than a big metal cage between your fist and his face?
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 Anaheim is a combination of the Broadstreet Bully's and the Habs of the 70's. I'm convinced, they are the real fucking deal and are going to win a few more Stanley Cups.

This made me chuckle, remembering Brett Hull last night saying face shields should be outlawed except in the event of eye injuries, and he and Don Cherry agreeing that fighting needs to go up to draw the American audience in more. What would cut down on fights more than a big metal cage between your fist and his face? I've thought about that as well. It would provide much more protection for the player's faces, which would allow them to block more shots and hit a little more. It would also make it tougher to start a fight, so you only get two guys who really hate each other instead of these crappy "want to fight?" dances we see in blowouts. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 More bad news for the NHL...Game 3 drew a 1.1 rating for NBC. That set a record as being the lowest-rated prime time program in the history of NBC. Yes, worse than the XFL. And that was a fantastic game -- it's not like it was a snoozer. It's sad how far hockey has fallen from the American public consciousness. Star Ocean 3 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2007 The dynasty begins tonight.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2007 The dynasty begins tonight. I don't know about a dynasty, but they certainly have the offensive talent to be a force for the next few years. Anaheim will likely lose Giguere and/or Selanne this offseason, either one would be a major loss. It would hurt even worse if Giguere ends up with another team in the Pacific division, which the rumors seem to indicate may happen. The Kings' young forwards with an actual goalie in net, could be dangerous next season.
Nightwing 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2007 A good-great team capable of winning a Cup? Definitely. A Dynasty? You need medication. First off, they don't have much in the way of home grown talent. I mean, Penner, Perry, and Getzlaf are the only ones I can think of. They really need to improve there, as they can't always get the deals on talent they've gotten. I mean, compared to Detroit (Who has homegrown people like Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Zetterberg, Franzen, Kopecky, Kronwall, Datsyuk, and Filppula), that's a pretty short list. They gotta get more out of their farm teams to really build something for the future, because while you can get lucky with Free Agency, it'll run out eventually. Second, they aren't nearly as deep as teams like San Jose and Detroit, who fortuitously slammed into each other just before the Conference Finals. Did they beat Detroit? Yeah, after they slammed up against San Jose in a tough series. Both those teams roll 4 lines, while Anaheim rolls maybe 2.5 lines consistently, and 1.5 'great-to-good' defensive pairings. Their depth is nothing compared to recent near-dynasty teams like Colorado, Detroit, and New Jersey, and I don't see it improving much in this off-season. If they lose Selanne, I wouldn't be too worried. I mean, he's getting up in age, and I would trust Brian Burke to get a younger scorer with potential in that lineup. In all honesty, most of their offensive prowess comes at the Blue Line, anyways. Losing Giguere would kill that team, in my opinion: Yeah, Bryzgalov is a good goalie, but Giguere has saved the Ducks way too many times in these playoffs alone for that to be anything resembling a safe trade. If they trade Giguere, they'll be a 6th seed, First-Round exit team. He might be inconsistent at times, but he's playoff gold, and you can't find that in just any goalie. Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2007 I think that the ideal scenario is Teemu retires in 2 weeks and Giggy will stay with the Ducks having more cash under the cap to spend.
Nightwing 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2007 I think that the ideal scenario is Teemu retires in 2 weeks and Giggy will stay with the Ducks having more cash under the cap to spend. Indeed. I mean, great forwards are all over the league. A solid goalie who has shown himself to be unstoppable in the playoffs? That's damn hard to find. I'd put money down on the Ducks finding a way, no matter how costly, to save Giguere. He has at least 10 good years, and if he doesn't get injured, you can add 5 more as well. Guest Report post Posted June 7, 2007 First off, they don't have much in the way of home grown talent. I mean, Penner, Perry, and Getzlaf are the only ones I can think of. First off, I don't think it matters whether or not your talent is homegrown, if they're as good as they are. Secondly, Andy McDonald and Chris Kunitz are products of the Ducks system, as is Ilya Bryzgalov. Third, Sami Pahlsson, J.S Giguere, and Francois Beauchemin got their big breaks with the Ducks. Clearly their management knows how to dig the bottom of the trash can and come up with the right players on a consistent basis. Also, you forget that they mortgaged younger talent in order to get Chris Pronger, so obviously they do not have a lot of homegrown players on their team. Who the fuck cares. You also showed that you know nothing about Ilya Bryzgalov when you stated that Bryzgalov is just a good goalie. Clearly you have not had a peek at his statistics. If he was a #1 goalie, he would be one of the top 10 goalies in the league, with little doubt left in my mind. Also, rolling 4 lines is overrated as shit. You need two scoring lines. A checking line. And one line that can go out there and goon shit up. I think the Ducks will have all of those things for a while. The Ducks have four fuckin' free agent signings on their team. Selanne, McDonald and the Neidermayers. Let me give you a history lesson. Teemu Selanne had ties to the Ducks Andy McDonald was a free agent out of college that nobody made a big effort to grab. Rob Neidermayer got Scott Neidermayer to the team. That is not "getting lucky in free agency". That is showing three players that you have faith in them, and one of them being related to another good player that just so happened to want to be around family. You swung for the fences with that monologue earlier and hit an infield fly. Welcome to thesmartmarks.com.
