CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 A little late, but this month's schedule: June 7-10: Stanford St. Jude Championship, TPC Southwind, Memphis, TN (Jeff Maggert) June 14-17: U.S. Open, Oakmont CC, Oakmont, PA (Geoff Ogilvy) June 21-24: Travelers Championship, TPC River Highlands, Cromwell, CT (J.J. Henry) June 28-July 1: Buick Open, Warwick Hills G&CC, Grand Blanc, MI (Tiger Woods) Adam Scott is in the process of gagging away yet another tournament on Sunday. Triple-bogey on 14 and he's 4 back after starting the day with a 3-shot lead. Worse, he's 4 behind WOODY AUSTIN.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 Austin has some momentum headed into Winged Foot, with the current season's best finishing round of 62 good enough to win. I'm looking forward to the tournament itself next week, but the course sounds like it's going to be sinister.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2007 Austin has some momentum headed into Winged Foot, with the current season's best finishing round of 62 good enough to win. I'm looking forward to the tournament itself next week, but the course sounds like it's going to be sinister. If it wasn't sinister, it wouldn't be a US Open, would it? Oh, and it's Oakmont. Winged Foot was last year.
Danville_Wrestling 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2007 Good win for Woody today. I always pull for that guy for some reason. I still remember several years ago when he was a lock to win the MCI Classic and Davis Love III chipped in for birdie way off the green on the 18th hole and beat him in a playoff (where Woody missed two putts in sudden death that would have won him the title). Looking at the scores players were shooting on the course all week there, Austin's 62 is very impressive. I guess the curse of Australian players not being able to close out victories claims another victim in Scott. Maybe this guy is the next Norman after all (which pains me to say since I love the Shark)...
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2007 I can't believe I said Winged Foot. My email is through the Golf Channel, and they've been hyping up Oakmont for about 3 weeks now. Good call on the sinister thing. I don't mind a winning score near or over par a couple times a year, but I don't want 8 or 9-over to be the best either. That being said, I think we're in for a treat if it's nearly as entertaining as last year was. And this is coming from a Mickelson guy.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2007 My favorite tournament of the year. A 288 yard par 3. Holy Shit.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 My favorite tournament of the year. A 288 yard par 3. Holy Shit. Ludacris, unless its a downhill tee shot.
World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 Wow. That really makes it unfair for the short hitters. The top 20 or 30 in driving distance on the tour can reach that with a 3W, for everyone else it's going to be a driver. Nice. Good luck holding that green hitting a driver into it. Guest Report post Posted June 12, 2007 These greens are ridiculously fast to begin with. They had to slow them down for a prior Open. This tournament is going to be insane. Also, they said that they were going to use different tees on each day for a number of holes, probably including the aforementioned 8th. I'll be stunned if someone shoots 6 over for the tourney. Also, I believe that the 8th is not a downhill hole. I've got Vijay to win it, btw. Tiger's going to have to break out the driver and he will get punished by the horrific rough. Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 Already in practice Tiger is using a 3-Wood and nailing it to the green on the 8th.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 Apparently, the green is pretty large, so anyone who doesn't get there on the drive will have a fairly easy chip. It's not meant as a birdie hole (obv).
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 Picks? And, while I don't necessarily dislike Johnny Miller, I have very little patience for him. I'm almost certain I will hate him by Sunday afternoon.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 I picked some no-name at the other place. Miller is great.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 I'm gonna go with Furyk. Perfect game for this course, past US Open champion, and hometown boy. I think we can write off Phil with his wrist injury. I don't want to be the one to play this card, but Tiger looked pretty average (by his standards, at least) in The Players and the Memorial. Coupled with the way Zach Johnson, a first-time major winner, held his composure on Masters Sunday with Tiger breathing down his neck....I'm inclined to pick the field this week. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 My pick was Ryan Moore. Pretty much a shot in the dark, but his driving accuracy is solid, and so is his putting.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 I'm saying Els to win the title.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 I like Els to miss the cut. I've got Padraig Harrington finally winning a major.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 I like Els to miss the cut. I've got Padraig Harrington finally winning a major. As silly as it seems to predict a former champion to miss the cut....things aren't exactly right on track for Els' three-year plan, are they?
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 For people saying how tough the course is, I'd like someone especially Tiger to rip through this course with like a -12.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 It rained last night, so scoring's going to be below what everyone was predicting, at least for today.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 Sergio is making the turn at +7, 77th out of 78. I find that funny for some reason.
Guest Report post Posted June 14, 2007 This course is very not easy.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 The greens are insane from what I'm seeing. Even by tour-course standards, there's all kinds of sidehill lies, as if there's no flat putts anywhere on the course.
Guest Report post Posted June 14, 2007 I can't wait to see this course on Sunday. The rough is sick. No way that Phil finishes this tournament.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2007 Say that about anyone who can't consistently hit the fairway this week. It's magnified with Phil's wrist though, absolutely.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2007 A 288 yard par three is nothing. A 667 yard par five? Fuck...
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2007 Just saw an interview with Phil where he called Oakmont "the USGA's wet dream."
