Perfect time to make CM Punk champion?

Recommended Posts

The reason was that they didn't want to put the title on Burke or Cor Von because they thought Benoit would be back in a couple days and he'd take the title back, making Nitro a virtual fluke. They wanted Benoit-Punk as the main angle.

Since Benoit didn't show, he abdicated his victory over Burke in the tournament thus meaning that it would be logical for Elijah to take his place. Along with him already having existing issues with Punk, being an entrenched character on the program and just plain being better than Nitro, it would have made more sense.

Yea, that's what I was thinking, I also didn't agree with that decision.

That's what most of the people think and, actually, it makes sense.

Hopefully the Nitro reign doesnt end up like the JBL reign where what most of us thought would be short lived end up being a long, long reign.

If they're intent on Nitro someday being a star, they're going to try him out in that position in ECW, and that means lengthy title reign. If they're serious about Nitro, then the soonest he'll drop the belt is maybe Summerslam.
