At Home 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 So the shins are coming to my town and I pretty much fucking have to be the first person there, for personal and photo reasons. Now, the show starts at 8 and I'm sure doors will open at 7 or so. Now, I'm planning to camp out a fair while early. What are some good tips for camping out? Consider all facets: Pissing/Shitting Eating Boredom Where to sit / What to use (I was thinking a little disposable blanket thing.) Everything else.
k thx 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 It's The Shins. I'm guessing you wont need to camp out that long.
At Home 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 It's The Shins. I'm guessing you wont need to camp out that long. HAhahahaha. That gave me a good laugh. No really though. In hawaii, a good band comes around to play a show once every 4 or 5 months. This is a big deal. I don't mind waiting.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted July 20, 2007 Consider all facets: Pissing/Shitting Use the port-a-potty. Make sure you have friends with you that can hold your spot. Eating Bring food that doesn't have to be refrigerated or heated. Anything from a 7-11 or other convenience store will do. Sure it's junk food, but it'll sustain you. Boredom Bring a book, get some `zines. Listen to music, like, I don't know.. The Shins? Where to sit / What to use (I was thinking a little disposable blanket thing.) Best to grab a sleeping bag and bring a nasty pillow or two from home. How long exactly are you planning on camping out? I wouldn't do it for more than an evening. I mean, it's the Shins, and if you have tickets, you'll be guaranteed a seat already. Hell, I remember a few years ago, I believe it was 2000 or so, my ex wanted to go see Godsmack (who were huge at the time) and we got there only about 3, 4 hours early and got right in front. And this was in L.A., too.
Guest The Minor Threat Report post Posted July 20, 2007 Okay, pbone, you are definitely making mountains out of molehills. 1) Nobody ever goes to Pipeline earlier than, like, seven. 2) There is an opening band. And the front of the stage always clears out in between sets. 3) It's just the Shins. I got in front for Dropkick Murphys incredibly easy. p.s. Sit on the ground. At Home 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 I'M A GODDAMNED FAN IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR THE SHINS WERE SUCH AN HERO i'm not looking to go too early, but early enough. It starts at 7, like I said, so maybe i'll go around 3 or 4.
Guest The Minor Threat Report post Posted July 20, 2007 I got to Pipeline at three the day of the Against Me! show. It was exceedingly unnecessary, but I got to watch sound check. Were you there?

Sideburnious 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 Pissing/Shitting I once stood front row at a festival in Belgium for 12&1/2 hours dying to take a piss in order to see NiN and Rammestein headliners (other acts including Audioslave, Therapy? & the Game were decent ways to pass the time too). You'll be surprised what your body can do when you really want it too. If in doubt pop a squat. Eating see above on why you shouldn't drink a litre&half of water before you walk into a festival so you "don't get dehydrated before a gig" and then find out it's overcast all day. Last time I did the waiting game I just had a big subway early on to last me the whole day and got all the pissing out of the system before I got inside. If not just bring snacks I suppose. Boredom Just talk to the people around you (if there are others) or talk to the friends you drag with you. Where to sit / What to use (I was thinking a little disposable blanket thing.) Suck it up and sit on the ground. Everything else. Don't forget your ticket. Make sure you don't bring anything you don't want to lose/ will think be stopped at the door i.e digital cameras etc. especially if they aren't easy to hide on your person(s). EDIT: on a seperate note; since you live in Hawaii: have you ever seen dog the bounty hunter just walking around or grabbing a sandwich or something? I've always wondered how notorious he is. The show always makes him look like he's pretty established with everyone, at least the underlife, which I would figure would make hunting for criminals harder. Just make sure you hit the bathroom before you go get in line, that's taken care of, unless you eat a huge meal right before leaving. Take a bag or three of pretzels or chips and buy a disposable cooler for sodas. Boredom? Portable videogame system, a book, zines, all of that has been covered. Plus you can always start your own entertainment in line, trying to get people in line with you to play guessing games or "I spy" with you. I've killed many an hour in amusement parks goofing around with total strangers in lines.

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 I waited eight hours outside to see Megadeth and Exodus. The guard rails weren't even put up yet. People came to the line aroud four hours before the door opens. If you don't want to get junk food, bring a cell and order a pizza in the line. Make a few friends if they want some and help to chip in.

You have the new album? What're your thoughts. I love it. If you look at it for what it is and don't try to compare it to Reinventing Axl Rose, it is a great album. Thrash Unreal, The Ocean, and Piss & Vinegar are some of Gabel's best compositions in a long time.
justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 I'm a sucker for Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart, personally. It seems much more structured than past albums.
Guest The Minor Threat Report post Posted July 21, 2007 It is more structured. But I will always hold Axl Rose and Eternal Cowboy much dearer to my heart than New Wave because of how it struck me. I was twelve years old when I first heard a bunch of older kids singing Baby, I'm An Anarchist. I bought the album the next day and I've never looked back.
