Guest CorporateMankind Report post Posted July 23, 2007 I was just checking my local HCSO site for recent arrests , and the name Spivey popped up. Well , low and behold , this came as a quite a surprise to me. Last I heard , Dan & his wife were running a studio or something. Wow! Dan Spivey arrested
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 That's too bad to hear about. He looks pretty rough in that photo too. As an aside, I find that some of Spivey's work in the late '80s/early '90s is really underrated. Very talented big man who should have been a bigger star, if injuries hadn't derailed his career. Downhome 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 Yep, that's too bad, and yeah, Spivey was very underrated by most. Heck, I'm also a huge fan of his Waylon Mercy character in WWE. It's too bad that he had a career ending back injury leading to the character only being around for about six months or so. Here's a few of the Waylon Mercy matches, his debut match against Jeff Hardy in '95, and even a Waylon Mercy vignette: http://youtube.com/results?search_query=wa...rcy&search=
AlexPuma 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 Are you certain that this is the same Dan Spivey that used to be a wrestler? I tried looking up his middle name to no luck. His run as Walyon Mercy was criminally short and should have made him a long time player in the upper card much like his former partner the Undertaker. The guy was big and had talent and charisma. Perhaps even more so than Kevin Nash did at the time.
Enigma 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 FORMER WWE AND WCW STAR DAN SPIVEY ARRESTED Former early-to-mid-90s WWE and WCW star Dan Spivey was arrested on July 14. Spivey, 55, was charged with DUI. He was released on $500 bond. Spivey was a star for WCW in the early 90s, most noteably in his role in tag teams with both Mark Callous (The Undertaker) and Sid Vicious. He retired from professional wrestling following his very short run in WWE as Waylon Mercy in 1995. His retirement was almost short-lived, as Spivey was Vince McMahon's original choice to play the Kane character that debuted in 1997. While Spivey seriously considered the role, he ultimately decided he did not want to end his retirement. The part of Kane was then given to Vince's second choice, Glen Jacobs, the man who still plays the character in WWE today. http://www.hcso.tampa.fl.us/pub/default.as...isp/bn=07045320
Enigma 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 And I have no clue how I missed the thread that was already made, since I specifically scanned for one. Whoops.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 He looks very gaunt in that picture, like he's lost lots of weight. Probably a good thing he didn't take the role of Kane, I can't imagine he would have lasted half as long as Jacobs has.
Enigma 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 Dan Spivey was Vince McMahon's original choice to play the Kane character. He did think about it, but decided that his knees were in too bad of shape to come out of retirement.

You can tell it in the eyes. He looks a lot like his Dangerous Dan character from the SkyScrapers , minus the spiked hair of course. There's a lot of wrestlers here in Tampa. It's both the Starting place & Ending place of many careers.
AlexPuma 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 It was just natural for me to be skeptical. I've only seen Dan Spivey wrestle as Waylon Mercy and the name is common enough that it could be somebody completely unrelated. Plus he looked like he was over 70 in that pic. The guy didn't age well. But I was wrong. It is him.
OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 His picture reminds me of Creed on The Office.

RedJed 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2007 Jesus, Horace is a wife beater and looks to even be wearing one.... For what its worth, Spivey looks like hell froze over, he's got that scary "methed out" look to him. Still shitty to hear he got in trouble with the law. Guest CorporateMankind Report post Posted July 25, 2007 I'm not sure how many of you remember , but does anyone recall Spivey's first "Federation" run? He was billed as the "Golden Boy" Dan Spivey , and also in the Battle Royal @ WrestleMania 2. If memory serves me right , wasn't he a replacement for Windham after he left the US Express with Rotunda?

It lasted from late 85 through early 87, if I remember correctly.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 Also, Spivey once had the ridiculous ringname in the NWA of "American Starship Eagle", whatever the hell that was supposed to mean.
