Vanhalen Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 An absolute genius, in a world where the word genius is thrown around too much.
Ravenbomb Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 :'( One of my top 5 all time favorite directors, probably third behind Kurosawa and Scorsese. *pops in Wild Strawberries for old time's sake*
Jingus Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 It's INGMAR. I thought he was already dead. Upon an IMDB search, he's been churning out plays and stuff for Swedish TV ever since he retired from film directing. Man, I'd love to see some of that stuff. ::goes to watch Seventh Seal::
spiny norman Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I watched Saraband recently - a fantastic way to go out. I saw this on the news and felt like I'd been punched in the gut. To me, he was second only to Kurosawa as the greatest director of all time. I suppose now Spielberg can take the title of best director alive. A massive loss to cinema.
Vern Gagne Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I used to get Ingrid Bergmann, and Igmar Bergman messed up.
Jingus Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Igmar INGMAR. Can a mod please fix the thread title?
King Kamala Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Haven't got a chance to see his work, but I always loved it when his likeness showed up on The Critic ("Meet Ingmar Bergman! 25 Cents) RIP
