CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 We're 12 days away from the the first preseason game, 33 days from the start of the regular season (featuring both conference champions inexplicably opening on the road --- good fucking job, NHL schedule-makers!). So, time to try and predict where the 2007-08 hockey season is going to go. Post all predictions/previews/whatever here, as well as all preseason news, and answer me these questions 20: 1. Who will win the Hart Trophy? 2. Who will win the Vezina Trophy? 3. Who will win the Calder Trophy? 4. Who will win the Art Ross Trophy? 5. Who will win the Richard Trophy? 6. What team had the best offseason? 7. What team had the worst offseason? 8. Which team will be the most improved over last year? 9. Which team will be the biggest disappointment? 10. What was the best offseason move? 11. What was the worst offseason move? 12. Who will make the playoffs that didn't last year? 13. Who will not make the playoffs that did last year? 14. Who would make your All-NHL first team? 15. Who will be the division winners? 16. Eastern Conference Final: 17. Western Conference Final: 18. Stanley Cup Final: 19. Guest Report post Posted September 1, 2007 1. Who will win the Hart Trophy? Sidney Crosby 2. Who will win the Vezina Trophy? Roberto Luongo 3. Who will win the Calder Trophy? Jack Johnson 4. Who will win the Art Ross Trophy? Crosby 5. Who will win the Richard Trophy? Dany Heatley 6. What team had the best offseason? The Kings definitely did, but the best isn't good enough without the missing piece this team is so obviously in lack of. 7. What team had the worst offseason? Nashville. No doubt. 8. Which team will be the most improved over last year? Colorado. 9. Which team will be the biggest disappointment? San Jose or Calgary. Keenan factor is going to be pretty rough on the team, and the Sharks are lacking a proven backup goalie. San Jose also didn't add to their defensive corps, the weakness they had last year, IMO. San Jose will get in, Calgary will not. 10. What was the best offseason move? Pitkanen to Edmonton. Vokoun to Florida is 2nd. 11. What was the worst offseason move? Bertuzzi to Anaheim or the Kings not getting a goalie. And everything Nashville did. 12. Who will make the playoffs that didn't last year? Toronto, Florida, Boston, Philadelphia, Carolina, St. Louis, Colorado, LA (if goaltending is decent, if not, Chicago) 13. Who will not make the playoffs that did last year? Buffalo, NYI, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, New Jersey, Nashville, Dallas, Calgary 14. Who would make your All-NHL first team? Ovechkin, Crosby, Heatley, Lidstrom, Pronger, Luongo 15. Who will be the division winners? Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Carolina, Anaheim, Vancouver, Detroit 16. Eastern Conference Final: Carolina beats Toronto 17. Western Conference Final: Vancouver beats Colorado 18. Stanley Cup Final: Vancouver beats Carolina 19. Who will win the Conn Smythe Trophy? Roberto Luongo 20. Make one bold prediction. Just made it. Carolina goes from out of the playoffs to President Trophy winners and Stanley Cup Finalists.

Stanley Cup Final: Anaheim vs NYR 19. Who will win the Conn Smythe Trophy? Henrik Lunqvist 20. Make one bold prediction. Gary Bettman gets fired after the end the season as ratings fall and the NHL is unable to back on ESPN. Also, Jim Balisille fulfills his lifelong dream to have a franchise in Hamilton which causes KC to have a franchise.

CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 1. Who will win the Hart Trophy? Crosby 2. Who will win the Vezina Trophy? Luongo 3. Who will win the Calder Trophy? Jack Johnson. 4. Who will win the Art Ross Trophy? Crosby 5. Who will win the Richard Trophy? Heatley 6. What team had the best offseason? Philly, by just a little over St. Louis and New York 7. What team had the worst offseason? Nashville 8. Which team will be the most improved over last year? Florida. Vokoun was always kind of overlooked in Nashville, I think we're about to see how good he actually is. Think Luongo, but with a better team in front of him. 9. Which team will be the biggest disappointment? I'm gonna say Buffalo with an asterisk. I think they'll still get into the playoffs, but they'll have to struggle to get there, which is in pretty stark contrast to how good they've been the last 18 months. 10. What was the best offseason move? The Rangers getting Drury and Gomez. It was hardly the best move, but I'm absolutely thrilled with Souray being replaced by Hamrlik. 11. What was the worst offseason move? Edmonton's acquisition of Penner. 12. Who will make the playoffs that didn't last year? Kings, Avs, Flyers, Leafs, Panthers 13. Who will not make the playoffs that did last year? Stars, Predators, Thrashers, Bolts, Islanders 14. Who would make your All-NHL first team? Ovechkin-Crosby-Heatley, Lidstrom-Niedermayer, Luongo 15. Who will be the division winners? Ducks, Wings, Avalanche, Sens, Penguins, Panthers 16. Eastern Conference Final: Ottawa over Pittsburgh. Christ, that'd be good hockey. 17. Western Conference Final: Detroit over Anaheim 18. Stanley Cup Final: Ottawa over Detroit 19. Who will win the Conn Smythe Trophy? Heatley 20. Make one bold prediction. Only Florida represents the Southeast in the playoffs.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 For Jim Balisille fulfills his lifelong dream this to happen, Gary Bettman gets fired after the end the season this will need to happen first, not after the season.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2007 Well I can't see Bettman stepping down or getting fired at the end of the season. Since there are rumors that the NHL wants to expand and AEG was stupid enough to build an arena in KC without a tenant, I feel that Hamilton and KC would get teams. Actually, Bettman will step down after this season. That's my bold prediction because Balisille was rejected by the NHL and he'll sue the league.

Guest Chumpstain Report post Posted September 2, 2007 I know I don't post here a lot, but I'd kind of like to be able to look back on this in 9 months and see how well I did with the predictions. 1. Who will win the Hart Trophy? - Sidney Crosby 2. Who will win the Vezina Trophy? - Henrik Lundqvist 3. Who will win the Calder Trophy? - Jonathan Toews 4. Who will win the Art Ross Trophy? - Sidney Crosby 5. Who will win the Richard Trophy? - Simon Gagne 6. What team had the best offseason? - Philadelphia 7. What team had the worst offseason? - Buffalo 8. Which team will be the most improved over last year? - Philadelphia 9. Which team will be the biggest disappointment? - Anaheim 10. What was the best offseason move? - The Islanders buying out Alexei Yashin 11. What was the worst offseason move? - Paul Kariya to St. Louis for far too much money 12. Who will make the playoffs that didn't last year? - Philadelphia (honourable mention to Chicago) 13. Who will not make the playoffs that did last year? - Islanders 14. Who would make your All-NHL first team? - Crosby, Ovechkin, Alfredsson, Pronger, Lidstrom, Luongo 15. Who will be the division winners? - San Jose, Detroit, Calgary, Buffalo, New York Rangers, Atlanta 16. Eastern Conference Final: - Ottawa vs. Buffalo 17. Western Conference Final: - Calgary vs. San Jose 18. Stanley Cup Final: - Ottawa vs. Calgary 19. Who will win the Conn Smythe Trophy? - Ray Emery 20. Make one bold prediction. - An all-Canadian Stanley Cup Final. Is that bold enough? No? Well, is Anaheim missing the playoffs bold enough then? If they lose both Niedermayer and Selanne, with Penner gone too, that's a lot to give up. Schnieder is good, but I don't think he can fill the hole himself, and Bertuzzi brings a ton of baggage with him.

CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2007 Buffalo will always have a decent shot at the playoffs with Ryan Miller in net. That's just money in the bank. They're way deeper than they get credit for. They've still got eight players returning with 15 or more goals, and three players with PPG status. Briere and Drury are, no doubt, huge losses, but there's still more than enough talent on the team to get them to the spring dance, even if they won't waltz in like they have the last two seasons. Ha!I tried that last year. They're still a year away. Imagine if Havlat could stay healthy. I agree with Max, though. Give them a year.
Guest Soriano's Torn Quad Report post Posted September 3, 2007 I was over in Vernon Hills yesterday, and dropped by a new sports paraphernalia store. You know, dopey merchandise with team logos, signed jerseys, etc. On the back wall were pennants for all the big four leagues (and more). The following teams were represented: San Jose Sharks, Colorado Avalanche, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning, ALL the old XFL teams not: Chicago Blackhawks I was going to complain to someone, y'know, how can you not stock Chicago sports stuff in a Chicago-area sports store, but he would've just directed me to other Hawk stuff, like the Chicago Blackhawks doormat (way too symbolic) and license plate holder, or just told me they sold out. I think I'm the only person who is still giving the Organ-Eye-Zation a chance for redemption.

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2007 Buffalo will always have a decent shot at the playoffs with Ryan Miller in net. Who's gonna step it up in Buffalo? Drury and Briere were leaders to the team. Buffalo has no leadership, and they aren't going to win most of their games like they did last season. And Miller is not that great of a goalie. He's good, not great.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2007 Having seen Miller firsthand for two playoff series, I can say he's better than good. He's the only reason Buffalo wasn't blown out in every game last year.

treble 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 Bullshit. He better not count against the cap.
Guest Report post Posted September 4, 2007 He doesn't count for the days that he isn't with the team. His salary will come off in increments, by however much he gets paid per day. Considering it's indefinite, who knows how long that will be. So the Leafs can't trade for a replacement, essentially fucking them in that regard. They'll have gained a decent number of cap space once Bell is able to come back, though. His daily salary will have stockpiled. So every day he isn't with the team, (daily salary) comes off. The NHL makes it sound like his set cap number for the days he is suspended will come off the books all at once. Unfortunately for the Leafs, it goes off day by day, by day, day by day.
