Guest Report post Posted September 9, 2007 I was going to say the same thing. I don't think beating a "in the midst of a healing process" Virginia Tech at Tiger Stadium, at night where LSU barely loses is that big of a deal. I'm not saying LSU isn't good, I'm saying that we should wait before USC's showcase game next week before going head over heels for the Tigers. Virginia Tech is junk. The whole ACC is junk. But if we didn't beat the hell out of Nebraska, I wouldn't mind if LSU jumped USC. Winning games at home isn't that big of a deal when there isn't a soul outside of Blacksburg that really thinks the underdog could win. I don't know why we're discussing this. It's fucking meaningless anyway. These early wins don't usually hold up over the course of the season, good wins against good programs in September often sends the loser into a downward spiral. Usually. If I had to put money on it, that would be the case for both Virginia Tech and Nebraska. "In the midst of a healing process" was a joke, btw, albeit a bad one. Jaxxson Mayhem 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 OK, have a new Top 25 for this week. Feel a lot better than I did about last week's, although it's still pretty fluid and I'm not 100% sure about everything: (Previous week's ranking in parenthesis) 1. LSU 2-0 (2) 2. USC 1-0 (1) 3. Oklahoma 2-0 (4) 4. Texas 2-0 (11) 5. Georgia Tech 2-0 (7) 6. UCLA 2-0 (8) 7. Oregon 2-0 (19) 8. Louisville 2-0 (3) 9. West Virginia 2-0 (6) 10. Wisconsin 2-0 (5) 11. South Carolina 2-0 (22) 12. Florida 2-0 (9) 13. California 2-0 (10) 14. Penn State 2-0 (13) 15. Rutgers 2-0 (14) 16. Ohio State 2-0 (12) 17. Alabama 2-0 (21) 18. Nebraska 2-0 (16) 19. Texas A&M 2-0 (18) 20. Tennessee 1-1 (NR) 21. USF 2-0 (NR) 22. Boston College 2-0 (NR) 23. Washington 2-0 (NR) 24. Georgia 1-1 (17) 25. Missouri 2-0 (NR) Close: Cincinnatti, BYU, Arizona State, Clemson, TCU, Iowa There's no way in hell Oregon jumps to 7 after beating an unranked Michigan. Also, Florida isn't dropping any spots, let alone 8. Also, Texas isn't going to come close to breaking the top 5.
teke184 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 That's Iggy's personal Top 25, which is fully independent of the real Top 25. It doesn't have to reflect what voters will do because he calls them as he sees them.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted September 9, 2007 So, in FCS/I-AA news, I just got back from the Portland State home opener vs. UC Davis. One of the worst games I've ever seen live. I don't know if PSU is any better or if in fact they're actually worse under Jerry Glanville/Mouse Davis, because the personnel is the same, yet they have the same record as Michigan right now. We're better than that! Or maybe not. We got ahead 17-3 on one long pass play, and scored 2 safeties due to bad snaps. It was all downhill from there, though, when UC Davis went and put up 23 unanswered points, and PSU couldn't come back, although they tried with a valiant effort in the 4th quarter.. but all momentum was squandered when they were on 4th and 1 at the goal line, and couldn't put it in. They converted, got the first down and were at FIRST AND INCHES, and 4 downs later, STILL didn't get the touchdown. Absolutely pathetic. The offensive line is absolutely horrible, PSU's QB is pretty good, but he was running around all day with no protection and the running game never could get going because of that pisspoor offensive line. These guys remind me more of the Texans than the Patriots- PSU has a decent secondary, but kept giving up these boneheaded long plays all night. It was terrible because it was PSU's home opener, supposedly with a "new era" against a team we've beaten 6 times in a row. Great crowd energy, pretty decent attendance and we have a pretty awesome band as well. Shame that the cheerleaders outperformed the football team today. ANKLELOCK 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 If there is a better team than LSU in this country, my momma's the Queen of Europa Listen, as far as I'm concerned preseason, even early season, rankings are bullshit anyways. As far as I'm concerned the rankings should be based on what the teams have done on the field up to that point in the season. That means I'd have USC way down there right now(don't worry, if they go undefeated, they'd be right up at the top). LSU and Oklahoma would be 1/2, and Cal and South Carolina would be close since they've beaten ranked teams. Using that formula, the rankings would change drastically week in and week out, with the pretenders falling to the wayside and nobody getting screwed over because people didn't think they'd be good preseason like Auburn did in 2004 when they couldn't jump Boomer Sooner because Boomer Sooner started the season at #2. J.B. Buzzkill 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 By the way, whoever mentioned in last week's thread that Colorado is happy with Cody Hawkins, as opposed to Colt Brennan. Still feel that way now? My bad.

teke184 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 The funny thing is that the AP Poll (currently listed by Bored) better reflects what's going on in football than the coaches' poll (unlisted), which still has Florida getting 7 first-place votes. (That poll's breakdown on first-place votes is 42-11-7 for USC, LSU, and Florida, respectively. While Florida may be a Top 5 team, the #1 team in the country shouldn't be giving up 31 points to Troy if another Top 5 team destroyed a BCS conference powerhouse 48-7 in that same weekend.) As much as I bitch about the AP poll on a regular basis due to the screwiness of some of their voting over the past few years, they've actually got it more together this week than the coaches. Bored 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 Yes the Coaches poll is worse than usual this week. Texas A&M moved up five spots for nearly losing to Frenso State at home. Also Auburn finished with more votes than South Florida. Link
