Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2007 I assume it is, but thought I'd ask someone who might know better before I just start deleting shit. What I mean is, (This is a new computer) there's all this stuff that I have on it, that I don't use, and I probaly never will, and hell I don't even know what it is. For example, this computer came with some 'eSobi'. There's also stuff from the manufacturer like 'Acer technology', that I really don't know how to use. Those are just examples and I'm sure there's others, and I feel like they're just taking up space. So is it fine to delete that stuff? Or are there maybe default programs up there, that keep the computer running, and I probaly shouldn't mess with it?
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2007 Yes it is, and I recommend it. However, if you have any doubts it's an essential item or process, google it. I recommend especially doing it for startup items, because you never know what crap might have latched onto your system.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 most definately. you may want to make sure its not something you can use (my computer came preloaded with Roxio for instance, but honestly its a good enough program to burn data onto CDs so I kept it), but yes generally all the manufacterer stuff (Acer, HP, etc) is bloatware. Most important things you need are built into Windows already. also be careful about driver software - for instance, a touchpad on a laptop, you dont want to accidently delete the drivers for that. A lot of the worthless shit that gets bundled with computer packages is applications or services that are set to 'Start Up' or 'Always On' and using resources or, in the case of some of the poorer designed apps, cause possible incompatibilities or security holes. But you gotta be careful with a laptop since there's stuff there that deals with touchpad/power management and such, so give it a Google first.
AntiLeaf33 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 Hell, all the computers I've bought I usually end up formatting them within a month or so to make sure I don't have any of that excess junk on the computer
