EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Haha. Tejada is going to play shortstop for the Astros. Haha. Seems to me that both teams are idiots in that case. Why? The O's dealt an unhappy player and got some prospects in return. The Astros got a legitimate bat and while defense is a concern, they don't have many lefty pitchers on their roster. Quite honestly, I really like what the Astros have done this offseason. Offense? Their 3-4-5 is Miguel Tejada, Lance Berkman and Carlos Lee. I think Michael Bourn can be a capable leadoff hitter. If J.R. Towles plays, they have eliminated the three worst hitters from their lineup. At the same time, they improved their outfield defense by moving Hunter Pence and acquiring Bourn, a legitimately good defensive player. The pitching is a concern, but they haven't dealt a single player who was likely to help beyond Brad Lidge.

I don't really think so. That's why I think they're idiots, because they're going to be playing a guy who has become brutal on defense at one of the most important positions on the field. Didn't someone say the other day that it would be nice to see Bedard or some other Orioles pitcher with a real shortstop behind him, and how much better he would be? It might have even been you. I don't see why that wouldn't still be the case with the Astros, especially now that their pitching depth has taken a bit hit in this trade. Roy Oswalt is a pretty extreme groundball pitcher (1.71 GB/FB last year, 1.60 career). I'm sure he'll appreciate ol' Miggy booting the ball behind him. Guest RyechnaiaSobaka Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Word is out that the fire and the passion will be in San Francisco. Rajai Davis to the bench I guess. Kind of a shame, he's a beast defensively. Career 118 Rate2 in center. If you normalize his batting numbers from last season, he hit .291/.371/.397. Miserable SLG, but the others are quite respectable. Oh well. C Bengie Molina 1B Dan Ortmeier (Travis Ishikawa?) 2B Ray Durham 3B Rich Aurilia SS Omar Vizquel LF Dave Roberts CF Aaron Rowand RF Randy Winn Meh.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Wigginton and Tejada will be one of the worst left sides of the infield in the majors next year. The amount of runs they'll give up from the defensive downgrade will offset most of what they are getting by adding Tejada's bat.

MLB.com says Lincecum will be #4 behind Zito, Cain, and Lowry. I actually believe they will do that, too. If I was setting that lineup, I would do it: 1. LF D. Roberts 2. RF R. Winn 3. CF A. Rowand 4. 1B D. Ortmeier 5. C B. Molina 6. 3B R. Aurilia 7. 2B R. Durham 8. SS O. Vizquel 9. Pitcher

Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Now that I've had a few seconds to process the news, what the hell are the Giants doing? Seriously, how does Aaron Rowand solve any of your problems? They didn't need a centerfielder with Roberts and Rajai Davis and he's not going to do much for them offensively. Rowand's the type that can be a last piece on a contending team, but you don't build around him. I am confident in saying that Brian Sabean has no clue what he's doing. Worst GM in baseball by a country mile.

Guest RyechnaiaSobaka Report post Posted December 12, 2007 "Running into a wall got me 3 years and $30 million more than I deserved." Guest My Pal, the Tortoise Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Oh my God, he's only getting $12 million a year. Kenny Williams couldn't make THAT deal, either? I'm not sure which GM is a bigger idiot: Kenny Williams, for failing to get another guy he was thumping his chest about signing; or Brian Sabean, for signing Aaron Rowand? Guest My Pal, the Tortoise Report post Posted December 12, 2007 So right now the White Sox are looking at 1 Jerry Owens, LF 2 Orlando Cabrera, SS 3 Jim Thome, DH 4 PAULIE, 1B 5 Jermaine Dye, RF 6 A.J. Pierzynski, C 7 Josh Fields, 3B 8 Danny Richar, 2B 9 Brian Anderson, CF I still think the Tigers are one more piece away from contending with them.

It's hard for me to even discuss it here. For example, they knew like a month ago where Josh Fields was going to play next year. They said so, but they refused to reveal where exactly that would be. That's some gamesmanship right there. The Tigers have an uphill battle to unseat the White Sox as the class of the AL Central.

You're not allowed to discuss the White Sox offseason in public! You'll give away the master plan! Loose lips! I'm not crazy about the Fukudome signing, but I'm amused that the White Sox actually offered considerably more, but Jim Hendry's camp did a better job of negotiating within Japanese culture than Kenny's, as the Japanese don't like presumptuousness and overconfidence in business negotiations. Everybody considers Lou Piniella to be insane and nasty, but he did manage the Mariners to a 116-win season when Ichiro was a rookie (which he admittedly had almost no part in, players win games - not managers). It's possible that Fukudome figured that if Piniella was able to work with Ichiro, then he probably wouldn't get blown up at. Can you imagine what Ozzie Guillen would do? He'd call Fukudome a slanty-eyed, sneaky fag and then claim that that's just the way people talked when he was growing up.

Did Boller have any neat tricks that have no real usefulness during the actual sport, like being able to hit the ball while holding the bat backwards? I'm basing this off of his circus act thing where he would kneel at the 50 and throw the ball through the uprights to impress NFL teams when he was entering the draft.
