Hey guys,

 

I have posted this on a couple of other boards, but wanted to share with you guys to.

 

My diary will run from the start of January 1985 to the present day.

 

I am not using any game to post my results, but just write the results as I see fit.

 

It will include all television and Pay Per View Results from the year. And the odd news tidbits – which will relate to rumours and news of releases from the company.

 

Current Champions going into 1985 are –

 

WWF World Heavyweight Champion – Hulk Hogan

WWF Intercontinental Champion – Greg “The Hammer” Valentine

WWF Women's Champion – Wendi Richter

WWF Tag Team Champions – Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch

 

It is important to point out that I will be changing some booking decisions but not all. Some historic moments and angles will still be kept. It is also significant to point out that wrestlers deaths will not be written into my booking – I.E Brian Pillman and Owen Hart will not be written out abruptly and will be phased out over time. Also injuries to key wrestlers may well not happen. (I will try to stay faithful to the injuries though)

 

TV Programmes in 1985– Super seeding the old All American Wrestling and Championship Wrestling will be two brand new shows that will both be on an hour each week. The shows will not just be full of squash matches and actually showcase top one on one and tag action.

So here it is the first show -

 

Wrestling Challenge - 5/01/85 (English Date Format)

@ Los Angeles, CA - Sports Arena

 

The commentary team of Gorilla Monsoon and Lord Alfred Hayes welcome us to a brand new year in the WWF and a brand new show - Wrestling Challenge.

They say tonight we will see a huge main event as former Intercontinental Champion Tito Santana will meet the current champion Greg "The Hammer" Valentine in one on one action.

 

To our first match.

 

The Junkyard Dog (hugely over with the crowd) pinned former WWF champion The Iron Sheik ( with "Classie" Freddie Blassie at (3.02) after a head BUTT. The announcers are shocked at how quickly The Dog pinned a former WWF Champion.

 

It is reported that Triple Crown winner Pedro Morales has suffered a freak accident in the ring at a recent house show and will be out injured for the foreseeable future. We will keep you updated with his progress.

 

Interview with the Intercontinental Champion Greg “The Hammer” Valentine. Valentine informs us that Tito Santana has no chance of taking his title in this weeks main event.

 

Rowdy Roddy Piper and Cowboy Bob Orton Pinned Jimmy Snuka and The Tonga Kid at (6.13) when Piper hit a swinging neck breaker on The Tonga Kid.

 

WWF Women's Champion Wendi Richter Pinned Judy Martin at (3.12) with a facebuster.

 

Interview with Mean Gene Okerlund and Chief Jay Strongbow. During the Interview he is blindsided by Buddy Rose….This leads to…..

 

Buddy Rose pinned Chief Jay Strongbow at (6.34) Rose continues the beating after the bell as he leaves to a chorus of boos from the crowd.

 

Tito Santana beat Intercontinental Champion Greg “The Hammer” Valentine at (16.54) by disqualification when The Hammer continued to choke out Santana in the corner in the ring.

 

As we fade out Gorilla Monsoon manges to make sure we aren't doing anything this Tuesday, and be sure to tune in and watch the debut of yet another show - Prime Time Wrestling, which will include a 20 man over the top rope battle royal.

Prime Time Wrestling - 8/01/85

@ Oakland, CA – Coliseum

 

Commentary team of Vince McMahon and the first ever Intercontinental Champion Pat Patterson.

 

The first match of the night was The US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo) pinned the The Moondogs (Rex and Spot) after a bulldog from Windham on Rex (3.21). The commentary team really put over the young team of Windham and Rotundo and how they have managed to quite easily defeat former tag team champions in Rex and Spot.

 

It is mentioned by the commentary team that on the 12/01/85 addition of Wrestling Challenge we will see a rematch between Tito Santana and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine for the Intercontinental Title.

 

Double countout at (5.12) between Tony Atlas and Nikolai Volkoff (with "Classie" Freddie Blassie)

 

Blackjack Mulligan wins a 20 man over the top rope challenge. (15.10) Mentioned that he could well be a challenger for either Hulk Hogan’s or Greg Valentine’s title after this victory.

The main talking points of the Battle Royal were - Adonis was eliminated early by Jack Brisco. Adonis was upset at his early elimination and therefore pulled out Jack Brisco – they continued to fight to the back. The rest of the match was your standard Battle Royal. The announcers really push Bret Hart as one to watch for the future.

 

Promo video aired for The WWF Champion Hulk Hogan.

 

Brutus Beefcake (with Johnny Valiant) defeated SD Jones at (5.43) with the Sleeper Hold.

Valiant and Beefcake cut a promo after the match that Beefcake is the future of the WWF and that Valiant is his new manager. The announcers put over that Beefcake could go far with the Legendary Valiant in his corner.

 

Main Event for the show was Andre The Giant pinning Ken Patera (with Bobby Heenan) after simply sitting on his opponent. (6.17) Show fades out as Andre celebrates with the fans as we see a still of te Santana / Valentine remtach for this saturday on Wrestling Challenge.

Wrestling Challenge - 12/01/85

@ Baltimore, MD - Civic Center

 

Show opens with Lord Alfred Hayes and Gorilla Monsoon pimping the rematch from last week between Tito Santana and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine for the Intercontinental Title.

 

Don Muraco (with Mr Fuji) Pinned Swede Hanson at (4.12) after a tombstone piledriver.

 

Vince McMahon interviews the challenger in tonight’s main event Tito Santana. Santana says that by the end of the night he will be a two time Intercontinental Champion.

 

George Wells fought Buddy Rose to a double count out at (4.54)

 

A new segment with Gene Okerlund that shows you the conclusions to other matches that took place at the event, and promos as well. This will be called “The Roundup”

*David Sammartino Pinned The Spoiler (Actual match went 5.52) Mene Gene says David will be sure to see success as he has wrestling in his blood from former WWF Champion Bruno Sammartino.

*Cowboy Bob Orton Pinned Salvatore Bellomo after a superplex (Actual match went 3.53)

*Bret Hart submission victory over Terry Gibbs with the sharpshooter. (Actual match went 2.12) Total Squash. Bret again put over huge by Okerlund.

 

Tony Atlas Pinned The Iron Sheik (with Freddie Blassie) (3.56) after a press slam.

 

Vince McMahon interviews the Intercontinental Champion Greg "The Hammer" Valentine. Valentine there is no way he will allow himself to loose the title tonight.

 

"Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff (with Rowdy Roddy Piper) Pinned The Tonga Kid (with Jimmy Snuka) at (7.12) Piper causes a distraction that allows Orndorff to blindside Togo and hit a piledriver for the pin. Snuka chases the heels out of the ring after the final bell.

 

Intercontinental Champion Greg "The Hammer" Valentine pinned Tito Santana at (the whole match went - 32.45) whilst holding onto the ropes. This match was severely clipped on the show and they only showed (21.10)

Prime Time Wrestling - 15/01/85

@ East Rutherford, NJ – Meadowlands

 

Commentary team of Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson

 

Before our first match we see a clip from last weeks battle royal won by Blackjack Mulligan. Theclip focuses on the elimination of half the tag team champions Adrian Adonis and him eliminating on of the Brisco Brothers. The two then brawl to the back.

 

Tag Team Champions Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch pinned Jack and Jerry Brisco at (7.34)

This match stemmed from the 20 man Battle Royal last week. Adonis got the pin fall after a DDT on Jack. The Champs get on the mic after and challenge any team in the back that thinks that can beat them to come down and come get some. Out from the back come Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo - The US Express. The Tag Champs scarper through the crowd like cowardly heels. The crowd goes wild for the seemingly new challengers to the Tag Straps.

 

The Roundup with Gene Okerlund is up next. Gene says that the WWF is the place to be to watch all the new upcoming superstars, Gene mentions names such as Bret Hart and the following superstar that will surely make a big impact in the future of the federation.

*Brutus Beefcake (with Johnny Valliant) submission over Swede Hanson (Actual match went 5.16)

* Don Muraco (with Mr Fuji) pinned SD Jones (Actual match went 6.54)

* Blackjack Mulligan pinned David Schultz (Actual match went 4.13)

Gene mentions that Blackjack Mulligan could well call in his shot at a singles title in sooner rather than later. (Mulligan has the right to challange any champion following on from his win in the Battle Royal last week.)

 

Mr Wrestling II pinned Les Thornton at (3.12) after an underhook suplex.

 

Cowboy Bob Orton Pinned Ivan Putski at (8.19) following a DDT.

 

The Hulk Hogan Video promo again aired.

 

Johnny Rodz pinned Jose Luis Rivera at (4.53) after a backbreaker.

 

Big John Studd and Ken Patera (with Bobby Heenan) pinned Andre The Giant and Junkyard Dog at (5.13) when Studd pinned Junkyard Dog after a body slam. Giant and Studd have a stare down as the show goes off air. The commentators wonder what would happen if these behemoths ever collided one on one.

Wrestling Challenge – 19/01/85

WWF @ Columbus, OH

 

The commentary team consists of Gorilla Monsoon and Lord Alfred Hayes.

 

Show kicks off with what the announcers put over as quite the upset as Bret Hart pinned Buddy Rose at (5.14) with a cradle suplex. Buddy Rose is pissed after the match and starts moaning at the match official that he laid on a fast three count.

 

The Foreign Legion (Nikolai Volkoff & the Iron Sheik) (with "Classie" Freddie Blassie) defeated by submission Salvatore Bellomo & SD Jones. When Jones submitted to Sheik’s camel clutch at (3.21)

 

The Roundup with Gene Okerlund is up next.

Mean Gene says that the tag team scene is livening up with Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo seemingly gunning for the tag team straps. However we shouldn’t forget about other the teams that could well be in the hunt for the titles.

*Tony Atlas & George Wells Pinned The Moondogs (Spot and Rex) (Actual time of match was 5.12)

Another tag team that were victorious was –

*Jack and Jerry Brisco Pinned AJ Petruzzi and Terry Gibbs (Actual match went 3.21)

The Roundup finishes with what could turn out to be a full out war between six of the top superstars in the world today.

*"Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff Pinned The Junkyard Dog (Actual match went 11.19) when Cowboy Bob Orton cloaked The Dog with a belt buckle wrapped around his fist. After the match Orndorff, Orton and now Rowdy Roddy Piper puts the boots to The Dog – as Blackjack Mulligan runs down – however he is overpowered too – eventually Andre The Giant cleans house and helps the faces to their feet.

 

David Sammartino (with Bruno Sammartino) pinned David Schultz at (4.56) following a powerslam. Bruno raises his son's hand after the match.

 

The commentators say that a match between The WWF Champion Hulk Hogan and Rowdy Roddy Piper has been signed for next month and that there will be chances to see parts of the match right here on Wrestling Challenge.

 

A promo for new superstar Hillbilly Jim is shown. It is put across that Hillbilly is coming to the WWF to become a superstar just like his idol Hulk Hogan. We see Hillbilly Jim training in his basement - lifting weights.

 

Tito Santana pinned Rene Goulet at (5.45) following a flying forearm.

 

Interview with The US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo) they say that The Champs Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch better watch their backs as they will be the next tag team champs.

 

Brutus Beefcake (with Johnny Valliant) submission over Jose Luis Rivera at (4.16) with the sleeper hold.

 

Jimmy Snuka and Don Muraco (with Mr Fuji) went to a (15.00) minute time limit draw in the main event. Neither man could put the other man down. The ring announcer announces a draw as the show goes off the air

Prime Time Wrestling – 22/01/85

WWF @ Detroit, MI

 

Commentary Team of Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson

 

Announced that next week on Prime Time we will see a massive six man tag team affair between the following men - Blackjack Mulligan, Junkyard Dog and Andre The Giant take on Rowdy Roddy Piper, Paul Orndorff and Cowboy Bob Orton.

 

Barry Windham Pinned Tag Champ Dick Murdoch at (8.17) after a bulldog. Adrian Adonis comes down for the beat down after however Mike Rotundo comes out to save the day.

 

The Roundup with Mean Gene focuses on two of the “next generation” of superstars that Gene puts over as being potential future World Champions. Both men are undefeated in the WWF currently.

We see clips of the following matches –

*Bret Hart submission over Rene Goulet (Actual match went 6.17)

*Brutus Beefcake (with Johnny Valliant) submission over Salvatore Bellomo (Actual Match went 7.21)

The last match they show a clip that will make next weeks six man tag even more explosive as –

*David Sammartino (with Bruno Sammartino) pinned "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff with a fluke roll up.(Actual Match went 12.21) Bob Orton and Rowdy Roddy Piper take out the legend that is Bruno Sammartino and lay the boots to David as they are embarrassed that he managed to defeat cleanly Paul Orndorff. And here comes the faces as Blackjack Mulligan, Junkyard Dog and Andre The Giant clean house.

 

Tito Santana pinned Goldie Rogers at (2.13) Total sqaush as Santana pins Rogers after a flying forearm.

Tag action up next as Tony Atlas and George Wells pinned The Spoiler and Steve Lombardi at (4.32) when Atlas pinned Lombardi after a press slam.

Interview with Atlas and Wells after the match who say they will be tag team champs soon.

 

The Junkyard Dog pinned Johnny Rodz at (4.42) following a headbutt.

 

Interview with Mr Fuji and his client Don Muraco. With The Devious Mr Fuji in his corner can Muraco get some title of some kind around his waist?

 

Jimmy Snuka D/Q over Ken Patera (with Bobby Heenan) at (11.34) as Mr Fuji came to ringside and cracked his cane on Snuka’s head. Don Muraco comes down and lays the boots to Snuka.

 

Tag Champ Adrian Adonis pinned Mike Rotundo when Dick Murdoch distracted the ref for Adonis to blindside Rotundo and grab the pin with a roll up at (10.12)

Wrestling Challenge - 26/01/85

@ Poughkeepsie, NY - Mid-Hudson Civic Center

 

The commentary team of Gorilla Monsoon and Lord Alfred Hayes inform us we have a massive 8 matches on this weeks Wrestling Challenge.

 

The show kicks off with the debut of Jim Neidhart (with Jimmy “The Mouth of The South” Hart) pinned Tony Garea at (3.13) following a running powerslam. Impressive outing from the debutant...making quick work of former multiple tag team champion Garea.

 

A promo for The WWF Title Match between Hulk Hogan and the challenger Rowdy Roddy Piper next month and it has been given a date to be shown on Prime Time Wrestling – the 12/02/85

 

Blackjack Mulligan pinned Moondog Spot at (3.21) after a stiff lariat. Mulligan gets on the mic after and tells Greg "The Hammer" Valentine that he better watch his back as he is set to be the next WWF Intercontinental Champion.

 

Ivan Putski pinned Alexis Smirnoff at (4.35) after the Polish Hammer.

 

David Sammartino pinned The Spoiler at (4.31) after a powerslam. Bruno didn’t come to ringside following his attack from the hands of Orton, Piper and Orndorff last week.

 

The Roundup with Mean Gene starts off with clips from WWF Champion Hulk Hogan’s latest successful title defence.

*WWF Champion Hulk Hogan Pinned Nikolai Volkoff (with "Classie" Freddie Blassie) after a big boot and a legdrop. (Actual Match went 8.19)

Mene Gene says that Brutus Beefcake’s undefeated streak nearly came to end when

*Tony Atlas beat Brutus Beefcake (with Johnny Valliant) by D/Q (Actual Match went 14.43) after Johnny Valliant gets involved and the match gets thrown out. Mean Gene says that on the 05/02/85 addition of Wrestling Challenge Tony Atlas and George Wells will take on Brutus Beefcake and Johnny Valliant. Atlas has apparently vowed to end Beefcakes undefeated streak.

The Roundup finishes with

*A promo from the soon to be debuting Hillbilly Jim. Apparently Hulk Hogan is his main inspiration and plans to emulate his success in the WWF.

 

Big John Studd (with Bobby Heenan) pinned George Wells at (5.12) after a vicious backbreaker.

 

Jesse "The Body" Ventura defeated Steve Lombardi via submission with the bearhug at (2:42) The squashes continue on this weeks show.

 

The Iron Sheik (with "Classie" Freddie Blassie) submission victory over Mr Wrestling II at (4.15) with the camel clutch.

 

Interview in the back with Vince McMahon and legend Pedro Morales. Morales says that he is slowly getting back to peak fitness after an injury and he should be back in the ring real soon.

 

WWF Intercontinental Champion Greg "The Hammer" Valentine submission over Jim Powers with the figure four leg lock at (2.12) This was a non title match.

Show goes off the air with a cocky Valentine waxing lyrical into the camera and that no one will defeat him for the Intercontinental Championship

Prime Time Wrestling - 29/01/85

WWF @ Hamilton, Ontario - Convention Center

 

This week will see the huge six man tag team match between - Rowdy Roddy Piper, Cowboy Bob Orton and "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff against Andre The Giant, Junkyard Dog and Blackjack Mulligan.

 

The commentary team talk over the issues between the six men in the main event have been having recently with each other. Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson then sends us to the ring for our first match of the night.

 

Don Muraco (with Mr Fuji) pinned Swede Hanson at (2.45) after a tombstone. Complete squash. Hanson hardly had any offense.

 

Interview with the heel team Rowdy Roddy Piper, Cowboy Bob Orton and Paul Orndorff. They say tonight they will be victorious.

 

WWF Tag Team Champions Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch defeated Jack & Jerry Brisco. Rematch from a few weeks back. The champs come out on top at (8.17) when Jerry Brisco submitted to the Sleeper Hold.

 

Pre-recorded message from the next challengers to the tag team title -The US Express (Mike Rotundo and Barry Windham) challenging the Tag Champs to a match further down the line.

 

Ken Patera & Big John Studd (with Bobby Heenan) defeated SD Jones & Rick McGraw when Studd pinned McGraw at after a powerslam (2:07)

 

Interview with newcomer Jim Neidhart and Jimmy Hart - They put over how strong he is and that he is the world record holder of the anvil toss.

 

The Roundup with Mene Gene.

The segment starts with Gene informing us that apparently Hillbilly Jim will make his debut next week on Prime Time.

This weeks roundup of matches focuses on possible next Tag Team Champs –

*The US Express (Mike Rotundo and Barry Windham) Pinned Mr X and Rene Goulet (Actual match went 6.12)

 

Interview with the face team Andre The Giant, Junkyard Dog and Blackjack Mulligan.

 

Rowdy Roddy Piper, "Cowboy" Bob Orton and "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff pinned Andre The Giant, Junkyard Dog and Blackjack Mulligan at (19.14) when Greg “The Hammer” Valentine attacked and cost Mulligan the pin fall to the hands of Piper, who finished off Mulligan with a DDT.

 

After the match the four heels take it to the faces as Andre is tied up in the ropes. The crowd boos heavily as the heels have the upper hand….that is until HULK HOGAN runs downs for the save. The heels scarper as Piper scowls at The Hulkster as the show goes to black…

Wrestling Challenge - 02/02/85

@ New Haven, CT – Coliseum

 

Commentary team of Gorilla Monsoon and Lord Alfred Hayes welcome us to the show, as in tonights main event Greg "The Hammer" Valentine will place his Intercontinental Championship on the line against the hugely populat The Junkyard Dog.

 

We head to the ring and what a way to kick off Wrestling Challenge -

 

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka and The Tonga Kid pinned Don Muraco (with Mr Fuji) and Ken Patera (with Bobby Heenan) when Snuka finished off Patera with the splash from the top off the top rope at (12.15). After the match Mr Fuji again uses his cain to evil use as he knocks Superfly out cold. Muraco and Fuji then proceed to do a devastating beat down on The Tonga Kid. The Tonga Kid is stretchered out as the commentators put over what a heinous act we have just seen.

 

The first Wrestlemania promo is featured. Watch it on PPV on the 31st Of March.

 

Ivan Putski pinned The Spoiler at (4.32) after the Polish Hammer.

 

Advert: Watch Prime Time next Tuesday to see the debut of new WWF Superstar Hillbilly Jim!!

 

The US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo) pinned Charlie Fulton and David Schultz at (5.13) Fulton is pinned by Rotundo after an airplain spin. A very impressive showing by the young challengers to the Tag Team Titles. They are blindsided after the match by Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch.

Can Windham and Rotundo end the champs 9 month reign? (They have been champs since 17th April 1984)

 

The Roundup with Mene Gene features promos with the following –

*Blackjack Mulligan who says that Greg “The Hammer” Valentine is a marked man after he cost his team a victory on Prime Time. Mulligan says he can't wait to win his first single's title in the WWF.

*WWF Heavyweight Champ Hulk Hogan who hypes his match with Rowdy Roddy Piper on the 12/02/85.

And

*Big John Studd with Bobby "The Brian" Heenan who talks about himself as the worlds toughest man and that the WWF is not big enough for him and Andre The Giant.

 

We get an update on The Tonga Kid’s health – we learn that he has broken his leg and will be out of action for sometime. How will Superfly react to the injury to his friend by his nemesis Don Muraco?

 

Brutus Beefcake (with Johnny Valliant) submission with The Sleeper over SD Jones (3.12)

 

Intercontinental Champion Greg “The Hammer” Valentine count out victory over Junkyard Dog at (15.32) The Dog came close but Valentine took full advantage when both were brawling outside the ring as Greg wraps The Dog’s knee around the outside guardrail.

Blackjack Mulligan comes down to get him a piece of Valentine as the show goes off the air.

Prime Time Wrestling - 05/02/85

@ Lorain, OH - Palace Civic Center

 

Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson or your commentary team this week.

 

Before our first match we see a clip from a couple of weeks back when Tony Atlas defeated Brutus Beefcake by D/Q after Johnny Valliant got involved.

 

Tony Atlas and George Wells pinned Brutus Beefcake and Johnny Valliant at (4.54) when Atlas pinned Valliant cleanly after a press slam. Atlas and Wells pick up an impressive victory. However Brutus still has yet to taste defeat via pinfall or submission since he entered the WWF.

 

Before his debut match - Hillbilly Jim gets on the microphone and introduces himself to the WWF fans. He says it has been his life long dream to be a superstar in the World Wresting Federation, just like his favourite wrestler and Idol - Hulk Hogan.

 

Hillbilly Jim submission over Moondog Rex with a bearhug at (3.34). Impressive debut by the Hillbilly, the fans have taken to him straight away.

 

Interview backstage with Vince McMahon and the challenges to the Tag Team Titles The US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo) They say that Murdoch and Adonis’ reign as Tag Champs will end here next week. They bring out a man from the back who will inspire them to victory – “The Manager Of Champions” Captain Lou Albano. Huge pop from the crowd. Albano says that he has guided some of the tag team greats to the sumit of the WWF, and he will strike gold again with The US Express.

 

Don Muraco (with Mr Fuji) pinned Bret Hart at (10.10).Bret Hart’s first loss in the WWF. Muraco does a roll up with a handful of tights.

The battle of the masked superstars kicked us off this week.

 

Mr Wrestling II pinned The Spoiler at (3.21) following an underhook suplex.

WWF Champion Hulk Hogan against Rowdy Roddy Piper and Tag Team Champs Dick Murdoch and Adrian Adonis square off against The US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo) Be sure to tune into a huge night of wrestling action.

 

Blackjack Mulligan defeated Cowboy Bob Orton by D/Q at (13.21) as Greg Valentine ran down and clocked Mulligan with the Intercontinental Title.

 

Promo from The Foreign Legion (Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Sheik) (With "Classie" Freddie Blassie). A very anti American promo. They warn the winners of the Tag match next week that they will be the next challengers to the Tag Team Gold.

 

Tito Santana pinned Steve Lombardi at (2.34) Total Squash. Tito wins with the flying forearm.

 

Interview with Bret Hart as he talks of his disappointment of his first pinfall loss at the hands of Don Muraco. His interview is interrupted when Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart and Jimmy Hart come to the interview podium. Hart tries to talk Bret into allowing him to be his manager and that all three of them could take over the tag team world. Bret says he makes a good business proposition – however he will have to think about it.

 

SD Jones pinned Terry Gibbs at (3.34) following a roll up.

 

Another promo for next weeks Prime Time Wrestling. Two huge title matches will take place.

 

David Sammartino pinned Ken Patera (with Bobby Heenan) at (9.34) following a powerslam. Another big victory for Sammartino – he vows to avenge his father’s injury at the hands of Cowboy Bob Orton and "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff after the match.

 

Interview with Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka who rants revenge on Mr Fuji and Don Muraco…

 

This leads to a match –

 

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka pinned Alexi Smirnoff at (1.21) Snuka looked like a man possessed out there as he starts to take revenge for serious injury of The Tonga Kid. Smirnoff is finished off with The Superfly Splash.

 

Don Muraco and Mr Fuji come from the back to taunt Snuka as the show goes off the air.

The US Express (Mike Rotundo & Barry Windham) (with Captain Lou Albano) pinned WWF Tag Team Champions Dick Murdoch and Adrian Adonis at (16.33) We have NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS as the influence of Albano has ended the reign of Adonis and Murdoch. Windham pinned Murdoch after a bulldog. The crowd goes wild as the new champs celebrate. This is short lived though as Nikolai Volkoff & the Iron Sheik aka - The Foreign Legion accompanied by Freddie Blassie blindside the new champs. They pose with the titles as Blassie taunts Albano that his guys will take the titles from them soon and that their reign will be short lived.

 

Promo from Rowdy Roddy Piper – Tonight will see the crowning of a new era in the WWF.

 

Don Muraco (with Mr Fuji) pinned George Wells (5.32) after a gorilla press slam. The commentators put over the roll that Muraco is on at the moment.

 

Hillbilly Jim pinned Moondog Spot (2.11) after a legdrop. Hillbilly Jim squashes another Moondog. Hillbilly Jim came down the ring with a Hogan Bandana on his head.

Interview with the Hillbilly after the match – he says that Hogan is his idol and that Piper is going down, which gets a great cheer from the crowd.

Mene Gene speculates as to whether or not Bret Hart will take up Jimmy Hart’s offer and undertake his managerial expertise.

We see a clip of a match between –

*Bret Hart pinned Alexis Smirnoff (Actual Match went 4.21) Jimmy Hart and Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart come down to the ring after to congratulate Bret. Bret seems uncomfortable with the situation.

* The Junkyard Dog defeated David Schultz via disqualification (Actual match went 6.34) Piper’s cronies Bob Orton and Paul Orndorff attack JYD causing the match to be thrown out. David Sammartino runs out for the save. Sammartino wants to avenge his fathers injury.

 

Interview with WWF Champion Hulk Hogan.

 

WWF Champion Hulk Hogan and Rowdy Roddy Piper went to a NO CONTEST as the ref lost control of the match at (26.32) (Only 12.31 was aired on TV) Piper’s cronies Paul Orndorff and Cowboy Bob Orton tried to get involved in the match – this bought out David Sammartino and……newcomer Hillbilly Jim (who’s hero is Hulk Hogan). The faces cleared off the heels as the Hulkster shows Hillbilly Jim and David Sammartino how to Hulk up to the adulation of the fans.

Wrestling Challenge – 16/02/85

@ San Diego, CA

 

Before the main show starts we are shown a quick recap of what happened on tuesday night, as we crowned new tag team champions. We see The US Express standing victorious with their new manager "Captain" Lou Albano and then being blindsided after the match by the new challengers to the titles The Foreign Legion. Also we see the closing moments of the no contest against WWF Champion Hulk Hogan and the number one contender Rowdy Roddy Piper.

 

The commentators (Gorilla Monsoon and Lord Alfred Hayes) throw us to the first match of the night -

 

"Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and "Cowboy" Bob Orton Pinned Jack & Jerry Brisco at (8.54) when Orndorff hit Jack Brisco with the piledriver. During the match the commentators talk of the morals of the two victorious men after they took out of action the legend that is Bruno Sammartino. Also during the match we have an interview in the top right hand corner by Bruno's son - David. He says that both men will get their comeupance.

 

Jesse “The Body” Ventura defeated Terry Gibbs (3.42) by pinfall after a vicious looking backbreaker.

 

Vince McMahon tells us that on Prime Time Wrestling a HUGE announcement will be made by WWF president Jack Tunney, regarding the main event for Wrestlemania.

 

Tony Atlas pinned Ken Patera (with Bobby Heenan) with the press slam at (5.12) Patera hasn't been winning a lot of matches this year. A defeat to former tag team champion Atlas will only further place him away from future title shots. During the match the commentary team mention that Atlas' partner George Wells will meet Brutus Beefcake - still undefeated in this weeks main event.

 

Interview with Jimmy Snuka conducted by Vince McMahon. Snuka promises revenge against the men who injured his best friend The Tonga Kid.

 

Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart (with Jimmy Hart) pinned Rick McGraw at (3.12) with a powerslam.

WWF Tag Team Champions The US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo) (with Capt. Lou Albano) defeated Steve Lombardi & Johnny Rodz at (3:03) when Rotundo pinned Lombardi with the airplane spin. The champs take to the mic and say they will be than happy to take up the challenge of The Foreign Legion. The US Express got the biggest pop of the night. This was also a non title match.

 

Big John Studd (with Bobby Heenan) submission over Chief Jay Strongbow at (5.32) with the bearhug. Pre match Andre The Giant was ordered to the back as he wanted a piece of Big John Studd.

 

Brutus Beefcake (with Johnny Valliant) submission over George Welles at (7.43) with the sleeper. Another impressive victory for Brutus. Before the match started we are taken though the recent issues between Beefcake/Valliant and Wells/Atlas.

Prime Time Wrestling - 19/02/85

The commentary team of Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson welcome us to the show and are in rather high spirits as the speculate that we will find out what the main event at Wrestlemania will be.

 

The show kicks off with two lower mid card guys as –

 

Swede Hanson pinned Charlie Fulton with a stiff clothesline at (3.45).

 

It is announced by Jack Tunney that the main event for Wrestlemania will be WWF Champion Hulk Hogan squaring off one on one with Rowdy Roddy Piper. These two hate each other and should be a huge match.

 

Hillbilly Jim and David Sammartino pinned The Moondogs (Rex and Spot) at (6.23). Jim and Sammartino have developed a friendship since helping Hulk Hogan last week. Jim is telling people that Bruno Sammartino is his second favourite wrestler behind the Hulkster. Jim pinned Rex after a big boot to the face.

We see clips from the latest of WWF Champion’s Hulk Hogan defence.

WWF Champion Hulk Hogan pinned "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff with the leg drop (actual match went 15.42). Hogan looks strong in the week that it has been announced he will face Rowdy Roddy Piper at Wrestlemania.

 

More tag action now as The Foreign Legion (Nikolai Volkoff & The Iron Sheik) (with "Classie" Freddie Blassie) submission victory of Tony Garea and SD Jones at (4.55) Jones submits to the camel clutch. Blassie gets on the mic after and rants that you are looking at the next Tag Champs. The crowd didn't like that statement.

 

Tito Santana submission victory over Gino Carabello with the figure 4 leg lock. (3.45) Another impressive squash by Tito Santana.

 

Interview with Don Muraco and Mr Fuji. Muraco will break Jimmy Snuka in two just like he did to his friend The Toga Kid.

 

George “The Animal” Steele submission over Barry O at (2.31) following the flying hammerlock.

 

Bret Hart fought Intercontinental Champion Greg “The Hammer” Valentine to a (15.00) minute draw. Neither man could get a victory over the other man. Bret Hart extended his hand to Valentine as a mark of respect, however Valentine took the hand of Hart and kicked him in the stomach and began the beat down – Blackjack Mulligan runs down for the save, as the show fades.

News

 

The WWF have made the decision to retire the WWF Woman’s Championship with immediate effect. The title will no longer be mentioned on WWF television.

 

All the current female roster including Fabulous Moolah and Wendi Richter (as some examples) will still be employed by the WWF until their respected contracts expire in a few months. This does mean that women wrestling will still be a spectacle at house show tours. We like to wish all our female wrestlers the best with their future endeavours.

 

(I've decided to get rid of the women's title altogether as I have no idea how to book this division. I will more than likely not even bother reintroducing the championship until The Attitude era....I'll see)

Big John Studd and Bobby Heenan throws out a challenge to Andre The Giant for Wrestlemania, as they are interviewed by Mene Gene. Andre The Giant comes out to a huge pop from the crowd and accepts. We now have our second match for Wrestlemania.

 

Ivan Putski submission over Terry Gibbs at (3.21) with the bearhug.

 

Dick Murdoch and Adrian Adonis pinned Rick McGraw and Salvatore Bellomo at (4.21) after Adonis pinned Bellomo following a DDT. Murdoch and Adonis get back to winning ways after they dropped the Tag Titles a few weeks back.

Mene Gene who is interviewing them mentions that at Wrestlemania a match has been signed that Paul Orndorff and Cowboy Bob Orton will tag to face the team of David Sammartino and The Junkyard Dog.

 

Don Muraco (w/Mr Fuji) pinned SD Jones at (4.21) with the tombstone piledriver. Jimmy Snuka comes out after the match and demands the Muraco faces him at Wrestlemania. Muraco accepts. We have another match for Wrestlemania.

 

Interview with Bret Hart before his match – Hart says that he will challenge the winner of next weeks Intercontinental Championship match between Greg "The Hammer" Valentine and Blackjack Mulligan. Hart says what better place to challenge for the title then at Wrestlemania.

 

Bret Hart pinned Ken Patera (w/Bobby Heenan) at (16.11) with a rollup.

The commentators put over that we could be looking at someone who will be wearing gold very soon. Hart gets a clean pinfall over a former Intercontinental Champion. The show fades.

Wrestling Challenge - 02/03/85

The commentary team of Gorilla Monsoon and Lord Alfred Hayes welcome us to proceedings.

 

We are now on our last stretch of road, to the destination that is Wrestlemania.

Tonight we will see Andre The Giant meet Big John Studd in a Tug Of War. Who is the strongest between the two? Will the winner of this have a psychological edge over his opponent at Wrestlemania?

 

The Junkyard Dog pinned Alexi Smirnoff at (2.31) after a headbutt. Out of the crowd comes "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and "Cowboy" Bob Orton. They deliver a nasty looking spike piledriver to The Dog. Out come the medics – they try to get The Dog on a stretcher, however he refuses help and walks to the back nursing his neck – to the adulation of the fans.

 

Backstage Vince McMahon is interviewing Andre The Giant when Ken Patera, Dick Murdoch and Adrian Adonis jump the Giant and focus on his knees. It takes a while for The Giant to go to ground, but he eventually does. Bobby Heenan hands Murdoch and Adonis some money, and thanks them for their help.

 

The commentators put over how out of control this show is getting. With two possible injured superstars in the form of Junkyard Dog and Andre The Giant.

 

The Foreign Legion (Nikolai Volkoff & The Iron Sheik) (w/ "Classie" Freddie Blassie) submission over Billy Anderson and Steve Pardee at (2.12) Total squash for the challengers to the Tag Team Titles. Former WWF Champion The Iron Sheik finishes Anderson off with a camel clutch.

The Tug Of War contest resulted in Big John Studd (w/Bobby Heenan) beating Andre The Giant at (3.50) after The Giant's knees buckled after the attack earlier today. Bobby Heenan and Studd celebrate like they have just won the World Title. Heenan is so confidant that Studd will be the first person to pin Andre The Giant in his career that he says that if The Giant pins Studd he will give Andre $25,000. However if Andre losses he must leave the WWF for good. The commentators say we may see history at Wrestlemania when Andre The Giant receives his first ever pinfall loss in the WWF. This first pinfall could also be his last? The Show fades to black.

Commentary team of Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson welcome us to Prime Time and big up Blackjack Mulligan's Intercontinental Title match tonight against the champion Greg "The Hammer" Valentine. We are shown clips of Mulligan winning a 20 man over the top rope battle royal last month. We also are reminded that the winner of tonight's main event will go on to face hot newcomer Bret Hart at Wrestlemania.

 

Tony Atlas pinned Jesse "The Body" Ventura at (10.01) after a backbreaker. Rematch from last week, this time with Atlas getting the uper hand.

 

Interview with Blackjack Mulligan. He believes that he will be the Intercontinental Champion come the end of the night and will be honoured to face Bret Hart at Wrestlemania – as he believes he is the future of the company.

A video package is run documenting the ongoing feud of Jimmy Snuka and Don Muraco. Highlights are shown of the infamous Superfly splash from the top of the steel cage in Madison Square Garden some two years ago. This feud got personal when Muraco and Mr Fuji took out Snuka close friend The Tonga Kid.

 

Intercontinental Champion Greg “The Hammer” Valentine pinned Blackjack Mulligan with a rollup and a handful of tights at (18.11). It will be Greg Valentine Verses Bret Hart at Wrestlemania for the Intercontinental Title.

This was a non title match. The champs get on the mic after and promise that they will beat Nikolai Volkoff & The Iron Sheik for the good of America.

 

We see clips of Greg "The Hammer" Valentine's successful title defence against Blackjack Mulligan on Prime Time.

 

SD Jones pinned Jose Luis Rivera at (3.45) following a rollup. The commentators go crazy that old Special Delivery Jones could go on a little run now that he finally has a win under his belt.

 

Promo with Rowdy Roddy Piper. At Wrestlemania a new era of the WWF will begin.

Interview with Bret Hart he says he can’t wait to go to Wrestlemaina to face Greg “The Hammer” Valentine for the Intercontinental Championship, it will be a huge oppurtunity for Hart and the biggest match of his carrear. He is interrupted by Jimmy Hart and Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. Jimmy Hart congratulates Bret on his title shot, however has he thought any more on his offer of his managerial services. Bret says he has enough on his plate at the moment but will be sure to give him an answer after Wrestlmania.

 

Next was a debut by Ricky Steamboat who pinned Steve Lombardi at (3.42) with a high cross body.

Interview conducted by Mean Gene with "Cowboy" Bob Orton and "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff. Another gloating promo from the heels that they have put Bruno Sammartino "on the shelf", and the fact that his "punk kid" son doesn't deserve to be in the same ring as Orton and Orndorff. Mene Gene brings up the fact that David holds a pinfall victory over Orndorff - this doesn't go down to well as Orndorff threatens to slap te taste out of Gene's mouth. Orton tells Orndorff to stay in the back as he has his next match all in hand.

 

The Junkyard Dog and "Cowboy" Bob Orton went to a time limit draw at (15.00) .The two men continued to brawl as the commentators go crazy that things are so personal between these two and Orndorff and Sammartino. The fact that JYD was spikepiledrived a couple of weeks back by the heels and David's dad also injured makes the match at Wrestlemania almost set to boiling point.

Wrestling Challenge - 16/03/85

@ Brantford, Ontario

 

The show kicks off with Gorilla Monsoon and Lord Alfred Hayes in the commentary position . Tonight we will see in action both the WWF Champion Hulk Hogan and his challenger Rowdy Roddy Piper. Piper will take on Tony Atlas. Hogan will be facing the undefeated Brutus Beefcake.

 

Show kicks off with Jesse "The Body" Ventura pinned Mr Wrestling II at (4.21) after a backbreaker. Jesse motions over to the commentary team of Gorilla Monsoon and Lord Alfred Hayes and says he could do a much better job as the pompous Hayes and that next week he is going to take matters into his own hands and “replace” Hayes the easy way or the hard way.

 

Interview with Big John Studd and Bobby Heenan. Heenan makes fun of Andre The Giant. He says that Studd will break Andre’s ankle at Wrestlemania, and be rid of him from the WWF for good. Studd proclaims himself to be the true giant of the WWF.

 

Rowdy Roddy Piper pinned Tony Atlas at (9.21). As the match was in progress, Piper’s cronies "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and "Cowboy" Bob Orton came down to ringside. Piper untied one of the ring-corner pads – exposing the steel whilst the ref was preoccupied with Orndorrf and Orton on the ring apron. Piper low blowed Atlas and threw him head first into the steel – this knocked Atlas out cold. 1-2-3. Piper gets the tainted victory. The commentators say that Hogan may have his hands full at Wrestlemania.

 

Interview conducted by Mene Gene with SD Jones. SD Jones says that he feels so confident now that he got a win in the WWF ring. Jones puts over his new found confidence and that tonight he will win again. SD Jones finishes by saying he wants to be part of the upcoming Wrestlemania extravaganza.

 

SD Jones pinned Terry Gibbs (3.13) with a trusty roll up. Jones celebrates after the match. Jones with two wins on the trot.

 

Promo by Bret Hart. He says that the Intercontinental Title will be around his waist come the end of Wrestlemania.

 

WWF Champion Hulk Hogan pinned Brutus Beefcake (with Johnny Valliant) via the leg drop at (17.21). Beefcake thought he had the match won at (14.24) as he came off the second rope with a knee to the throat. He made the cover for the three, however The Hulkster’s foot was on the rope. Valiant quickly snatched the title and he and Beefcake started to celebrate. Two officials run from the back to the let the referee know that Hogan’s foot was on the rope. The match begins again and Hogan gets the victory after a leg drop. Beefcake and Valliant are furious as the show goes off the air.

The team of Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson welcome us.

 

Hillbilly Jim pinned Rick McGraw after the big leg drop (3.22) Jim celebrates with the fans until he is attacked by Brutus Beefcake and Johnny Valliant. They lay the boots to the Hillbilly. Beefcake then gets on the mic and demands that he should now be the WWF Champion after pinning The Hulkster 1-2-3. He says that if the bureaucrats in the back won’t give him a match with Hogan for Wrestlemania , he will take matters into his own hands and brutalize Hogan’s friend, Hillbilly Jim. Looks like we have another match for Wrestlemania.

 

Promo from manager Jimmy Hart. He says that his client Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart will be part of Wrestlemania, as he has signed him up to face Tito Santana at the extravaganza. Neidhart says that Santana will be the biggest feather in his cap to date. Jimmy Hart closed the promo by saying that he has a surprise at Wrestlemania for an unlucky superstar…..as an avalanche is coming….?

 

"Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and "Cowboy" Bob Orton pinned Tony Atlas and George Welles at (12.45) after Orndorff delivered a spike piledriver to Wells. The commentators feel that Orton and Orndorff could have the upper hand at Wrestlemania as they are a more cohesive unit than David Sammartino and Junkyard Dog.

 

Interview with the Tag Champs The US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo) (w/ Capt. Lou Albano) before their match. Albano says that this team is so hungry for success and there is no way they will drop the titles as long as he is in charge.

 

WWF Tag Team Champions The US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo) (w/ Capt. Lou Albano) pinned The Moondogs (Rex and Spot) at (5.55). after Rotundo delivered the airplane spin to Spot.

 

Mene Gene is in the back with the Intercontinental Champion. Greg “The Hammer” Valentine puts over the fact that he is a fighting champion and will prove this tonight in the main event as he takes on Jimmy Snuka.

 

Intercontinental Champion Greg “The Hammer” Valentine and "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka went to a double count out at (18.22) Valentine and Snuka continue to brawl until Don Muraco runs down to put the beating on Snuka – but here comes the challenger to Valentine’s title at Wrestlemania Bret Hart to make the save. Shows fades with Valentine and Muraco gleefully smiling in the isles as Hart helps Snuka to his feet.

Wrestling Challenge – 23/03/85

The commentating duo of Gorilla Monsoon and Lord Alfred Hayes kick the show off and start to run down tonight’s card when all of a sudden Jesse "The Body" Ventura shows up and demands that Hayes leaves the real commentating to him. Hayes looks petrified of Ventura and does as he is told – Looks like we have a new commentating team for Challenge.

 

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat pinned Buddy Rose at (4.55) with a high cross body. The commentators put over what an incredible athlete Steamboat is. Ventura more reluctanly than Monsoon.

Bret Hart submission over Ken Patera at (10.21) with a leg grapevine. Bobby Heenan is visibly absent from Patera’s corner. The commentators say that Heenan is so obsessed with defeating Andre The Giant at Wrestlemania that he is not taking notice of his other clients and putting all his time and energy in Big John Studd.

 

A video promo documenting the history of Jimmy Snuka and Don Muraco is then aired.

 

Next match was the debut of Davey Boy Smith & The Dynamite Kid (not yet called The British Bulldogs) defeated Barry O & Rene Goulet at (4:03) when Dynamite pinned Goulet with a diving headbutt. The commentators hope this is not the last time we have seen Davey Boy Smith & The Dynamite Kid.

 

An update video then aired regarding the current state of Andre The Giant’s knee. We see clips of him trying to walk on it…but with great difficulty. The commentators say that it will be devastating if Andre looses at Wrestlemania. At the moment the odds seemed staked against the undefeated Giant.

 

More tag action next as The Moondogs (Rex and Spot) pinned Steve Lombardi and Salvatore Bellomo after a Spot delivered a splash to Bellomo. (4.12)

Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson welcome us to the show and inform us that in tonight's main event "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff will face the man who holds an upset victory over him David Sammartino.

 

The show kicked off when Tag Team Champion Mike Rotundo (w/ Capt. Lou Albano) pinned Nikolai Volkoff (w/ "Classie" Freddie Blassie) at (7.21) The commentators say that the tag team champions are now two-nil up on their opponents going into Wrestlemania. Before the match begun we see a clip of the end of Wrestling Challenge when Barry Windham pinned The Iron Shiek.

 

Next is the return of The Pipers Pit. Rowdy Roddy Piper says he has had all the big names on this show – however his next guest is probably the biggest, most crazy S.O.B in the sport of wrestling today. Piper introduces…..himself. He then starts to put down Hulk Hogan and all the Hogan fans. He them blows his nose on a Hulkamania T-shirt.

 

Brutus Beefcake (w/Johnny Valliant) submission over Jim Powers with the sleeper hold at (3.21) A squash match to make Brutus look strong heading into Wrestlemania. An insert interview with his opponant at WM, Hillbilly Jim is aired during the match. Jim tells Brutus to stop whinning about not winning the World title and the fact that at Wrestlemania he will be crying again after he beats him.

 

Interview with Tito Santana, conducted by Mene Gene. He says that Jim "The Avil" Neidhart will be a tough opponent. But he is confident that he can beat him and position himself to be challeging for championship belts again.

 

George Welles and Tony Atlas pinned former tag champs Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch (12.33) When Welles hit a spinebuster on Murdoch for the pinfall. Quite the upset here.

This was a hype show for tomorrow’s Wrestlemania.

 

Vince McMahon, Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse "The Body" Ventura discuss and show clips to all the matches that will take place tomorrow.

*The Main Event – WWF Champion Hulk Hogan V Rowdy Roddy Piper

We have an interview with the WWF champion Hulk Hogan on the show, who is asked by Vince McMahon how he feels about the possibility of Piper’s cronies “Mr Wonderful” Paul Orndorff and “Cowboy”Bob Orton getting involved. Hogan tells McMahon and all his fans at home not to worry as he has two big backup plans.

We see a clip of Piper blowing his nose on the “Hulkamamaia” tshirt and an interview with the challenger to the title vowing to end Hogan’s reign.

 

*Andre The Giant V Big John Studd (w/ Bobby Heenan) – If Andre losses he will have to leave the WWF. If Studd losses Heenan will pay Andre $25,000. These men have been battleing each other for years…but this time Andre The Giant’s carrear will be on the line. Can Big John Studd become the only defeat Andre has suffered (pinfall or submission) in his carrear. We have an interview with a doctor who puts over the extent of Andre The Giant’s injury at the hands of Ken Patera, Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch – who were paid by Bobby Heenan to soften The Giant up.

 

*Jimmy "Superfy" Snuka V Don Muraco (w/Mr Fuji)

We are treated to a clip from the infamous Steel Cage match from Madison Square Garden between these two men. Back in October 1983 these two men were in the middle of a feud – a feud that has reignited and has gotten personal. We see clips of Don Muraco and his manager Mr Fuji taking out Snuka’s frien The Togo Kid's leg with a cane. These two men return to Madison Square Garden to commence war once again, This is being billed as a Grudge Match!!

 

*Intercontinental Champion Greg “The Hammer" Valentine V Bret Hart

An interview with Blackjack Mulligan who says he is rooting for the underdog Bret Hart in this match, he does add though that it will in no way be easy against who he thinks has been a great Intercontinental Champion, Valentine. We also hear from Jimmy Hart who will be paying close eye to the match in the back – and reminds Bret Hart that his offer of carrear guideance is still on the table. This match is being put over as Bret Hart’s biggest match to date and that of a wrestler who has come from no where to be in a position to be where he could be wearing gold come tomroow night. A true underdog story.

 

*WWF Tag Team Champions The US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo) (w/ Capt. Lou Albano) v The Foreign Leigon (Nikolai Volkoff & the Iron Sheik) (w/ “Classie” Freddie Blassie) Again a match being put over as experience against young up and comers. The US Express have taken the tag team scene by storm. Can they defend America’s honour against those pesty foreigners? The US Express have both got singles victories over both members of The Foreign Legion – will their good form continue at WM or will the relatively inexperienced duo fall to complacency and take their eye off their game and loose the straps?

 

* David Sammartino and The Junkyard Dog V “Mr Wonderful” Paul Orndorff and “Cowboy” Bob Orton. Piper’s goons will have their hands full as they are in tag team action against the mismatch team of JYD and David Sammartino. Another match being built on vengeance, we are treated to the shocking antics of Orndorff and Orton as they injured the living legend that is Bruno Sammartino. We then see that these teams are at a stale mate with Orndorrff / Sammartino and JYD/Orton both fighting to 15 minute draws. Emphasis is also put on Davd’s shock victory over Orndorff and how Orndorff is yet to defeat Sammartino.

 

*Tito Santana V Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart (w/ Jimmy Hart). A match signed to give Neidhart by far his toughest test. The former Intercontinental Champion, Santana has fallen down the ranks after failing to prise the Title away from the man who beat him for it Greg Valentine. A victory here could well put him right back in contention for that belt.

 

 

*Hillbilly Jim V Brutus Beefcake (w/Johnny Valliant) Beefcake believes he should now be the World Wrestling Federation Champion after he (to his knowledge) pinned the champion Hulk Hogan for the 1-2-3. Hogan’s foot however was on the rope , and there for the three count was void. Beefcake was refused a rematch at WM, due to a match with Piper already being signed – he therefore took his frustrations out on Hogan’s friend Hillbilly Jim. Jim a newcomer will also have his toughest match so far, since entering the federation.

*Tony Atlas, George Welles and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat V Adrian Adonis, Dick Murdoch and Ken Patera. In an match just announced the day before the big event, these six men will be squaring off. Steamboat is the hot, highflying, newcomer, Patera the vetern, a former Intercontinental Champion. Adonis and Murdoch have been on a bit of a downward spiral after looseing their impressive 9 month riegn of the tag team titles. This continued after a lose on Tuesday’s Prime Time to the other two members of this match Tony Atlas and George Welles.

 

*Also don’t forget Jimmy Hart’s “surprise.”

The show kicks off with Cyndi Lauper singing the National Anthem.

 

Three team commentary of Vince McMahon, Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse "The Body" Ventura.

Backstage interviews to be carried out by Mean Gene Okerlund and Lord Alfred Hayes.

 

And the first match of the night is -

 

Tony Atlas, George Welles and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat Vs Adrian Adonis, Dick Murdoch and Ken Patera

 

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat pinned Dick Murdoch, following the high cross body at (11.21). Nice to and fro six man tag match here...a great way to kick off Wrestlemania. Again no Bobby Heenan in Ken Patera'a corner. Steamboat may only have a couple of matches under his belt in the federation - but already he is vastly over with the live crowd. Steamboat gets the big rub here by getting the pinfall over former tag team champion Dick Murdoch. The faces celebrate as we go to our first interview.

 

Mene Gene Okerlund is standing by with WWF Heavyweight champion Hulk Hogan - the crowd go wild. Mene Gene trys to get out of Hogan what he meant on Wrestling Challenge when he said he would have two suprises to counter a possible Orndorff, Orton involvement. Hogan's say's he didn't want to ruin the suprise.

 

Tito Santana V Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart(w/ Jimmy Hart)

 

Santana submission over Neidhart following the figure four leglock. (7.22). Santana is one of the most over superstars on the roster today. A victory here will position the former Intercontinental Champion right back in contention for a shot at the said champion at the end of the night, for a future match. Again the face goes over as Neidhart tastes his first loss in a WWF ring.

 

WWF Tag Team Champions The US Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo) (w/ Capt. Lou Albano) v The Foreign Leigon (Nikolai Volkoff & The Iron Sheik) (w/ “Classie” Freddie Blassie)

 

Barry Windham finished off Volkoff with the Bulldog. (6.12) The champs and Albano celebrate with the fans after. A rather dominant dislay by the champions here. The US Express wave the American flags to the delight of the crowd.

 

Interview with Rowdy Roddy Piper. He is interviewed by Lord Alfred Hayes, who asks him if he is worried about the possible involvement of Hogan's suprises. Piper slaps Hayes around the back of the head and asks him if he looks like he is worried. He says tonight he will become the Heayweight champion of the world and there is not a damn thing anyone can do about it.

 

Hillbilly Jim V Brutus Beefcake (w/Johnny Valliant)

 

Brutus was very aggressive as if to prove a point during this match. He finished off Hillbilly Jim with the sleeper hold at (7.21) Like Neidhart, Jim comes up short in his first major match.

 

Interview conducted by Mene Gene, who is standing by with the challanger to the Intercontinental title Bret Hart. Whilst Hart is putting over his amazing story of being unknown at the turn of the year to now be in a position to be wearing gold, he is interupted by Jimmy Hart and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart. They both wish him luck and shack his hand - Bret shacks wearily. Jimmy tells Bret to not forget about his offer.

 

Before the next match we are shown a clip which documents the history between Muraco and Snuka.

 

Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka V Don Muraco (w/Mr Fuji) – Grudge Match

 

This was a full out war between two men that hate each other. Fuji continually tried to interfere. Both men bled and Snuka ended up finishing the match at (30.21) with the superfly splash. Snuka was carried out on the back of a stretcher due to fatigue and loss of blood. This will go down as a classic match.

 

Next up was......

 

David Sammartino and The Junkyard Dog V "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and "Cowboy" Bob Orton

 

Orndorff finished Sammartino off with a piledriver at (18.32). Mr Wonderful gets a victory over Sammartino...FINALLY! Orton and Orndorff then started to put the boots to the defeated Sammartino and Junkyard Dog. All of a sudden the crowd went wild as BRUNO SAMMARTINO – the former WWF champion ran to the ring to take out Orndorff and Orton. Paul Orndorff managed to get out of the ring – however Bruno went wild on Orton - throwing him over the top rope. However Orton’s left arm became tied up in the ropes as he went over. This caused Orton to scream in pain as the commentators put over that his arm could now be broken. Junkyard Dog stands in the middle of the ring and raises the Sammartino’s hands – as the crowd eats it up.

Andre The Giant V Big John Studd (w/ Bobby Heenan)

 

Studd worked on Andre’s legs all match but was not able to defeat to big man.

Andre pinned Big John Studd after a big splash in the corner which knocked the stuffing out of Studd. Andre gets the three count at (8.54)

Bobby Heenan is devastated as he is forced to hand over the money to Andre.

Andre throws Heenan out of the ring and begins to throw the $25,000 to the roaring crowd.

Andre remains undefeated in the WWF.

 

 

Intercontinental Champion Greg “The Hammer” Valentine V Bret Hart

 

Technically sound match as Bret came up just short. Valentine cradled Hart when it looked like he was about to apply a sharpshooter. Valentine retains the title. (16.00). Hart looks disappointed with himself as Valentine gloats in the aisle telling Hart to get back to where he belongs, fighting enhancement talent.

 

SD Jones is in the ring as he hypes the crowd up before the main event, giving out free Wrestlemania Tshirts. However this is interrupted by Jimmy Hart. He tells Jones that he is a joke of a wrestler and that as he wanted a match at Wrestlemania – he can fight his new client – King Kong Bundy. SD Jones looks terrified as this big monster comes down the aisle. A referee is forced into the ring by Hart who then calls for the bell.

 

King Kong Bundy (w/Jimmy Hart) pinned SD Jones in (0.18) Bundy murdered Jones in just over 10 seconds as the commentators can’t believe what they have just seen. Bundy makes the ref count to 5 and not the standard 3. Ventura finds this all rather funny and procedes to rip Jones a new one, at what a pathetic performace that was. He also puts Bundy over strong.

 

Next is the Main Event

 

WWF Champion Hulk Hogan V Rowdy Roddy Piper

 

Hogan was accompanied to the ring by non other than Muhammed Ali and TV's very own Mr T!!

This was an all out brawl, with Piper using underhand tactics and rest holds throughout to wear The Hulkster out. Near the close of the match with Hogan down Paul Orndorff came down to distract the ref. This allowed Piper to take one of the turnbuckles off (like he did against Tony Atlas a few weeks ago) With the steel exposed Piper picked up Hogan and went to throw him into the steel – however Hogan countered and sent Piper head first into it. Piper was knocked out cold. Hogan then hits the leg drop for the pin at (35.21) Hogan celebrates as some faces come from the back such as Hillbilly Jim, Blackjack Mulligan, The US Express, Atlas and Welles, Ricky Steamboat and Tito Santana to join in the festivities as the fans lap it up. The faces host Hogan on their shoulders as the show goes off the air.

Yes. I think in hindsight the match is booked far too long. Neither would be able to go to that length of time.

 

My Bad. Since I booked this first Wrestlemania, my timings on my matches has become a lot more realistic.
