CanadianChris Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 I didn't think it was that good. I'm already tired of not seeing any big runs up the leaderboard anymore. All you can do now is wait for someone to make a huge mistake or two. 2004 seems like ages ago.

That's a lofty standard to compare it to; I equate Mickelson's breakthrough to the BoSox or Benoit's wins of that year as well. As far as excitement, I'd say only 86 was better.

There were a ton of guys making big moves up the leaderboard that day, too. 1998 was another great one, with O'Meara holding off Couples and Duval. It's just sad that there doesn't seem to be a 65 or 66 out there to be had on Sunday anymore. Immelman shot 75 and won by 3 -- that's not the Masters I remember. It's another US Open in April.

It's another US Open in April. 98 was a good one - fuck, imagine if Jack had won. I also remember Furyk and Azinger having chances to get into a playoff with their last hole as well (although it wouldn't have mattered with O'Meara birdieing the last two anyway). I get the US Open vibe a bit, but not so much this year as the last two or three. They almost made the course easier in a few places for this year, getting rid of trees and shifting tees. I mean, yeah, they did add some length, but the course didn't give me an all-around demanding impression the way it did in '06 and '07. I'll remember the high scores this year and last year due to tough conditions more than I will for the course's difficulty.
