HarleyQuinn where do you watch all these 1-AA games at? I sure would like to watch some(i enjoyed the playoffs that were on TV) but, it seems like aside from the playoffs they're never on. I'd rather watch a 1-AA team and be surprised by what I see on the field than an Air Force-Utah State game on CSTV.

 

Speaking of CSTV, I enjoyed their D-II games. And since I'm in what seems like the JUCO capital of the midwest (Kansas) I watched a lot of JUCO ball this past season.

 

It's only recently that I've branched out from D-1 and I'm really enjoying what I've seen.

Like Edwin said, at least up in New London (although that's gone after this year since I'm graduating) I would often get the Colonial Athletic Association on TV so I could watch games with teams like UMass, New Hampshire, etc.

 

I know that ESPNU has aired FCS games in the past (freakin' Jonathan Coachman covered an Eastern Illinois game I saw. That was surreal in and of itself).

 

Outside of the playoffs though, I don't think any of the major networks air FCS games although I'm hoping that ESPN will show the App. State/LSU one nationally.

 

I've found that I enjoy football almost more now that I'm aware and follow the FCS more than I-A actually... partly because some of these guys not only get drafted and do well but also that there's a playoff at the end so you can cheer a team without thinking, "Crap. They lost in Week 6 to Team A by 10 points so now they'll be #21 and get a spot at the Alamo Bowl" or something.

CB Chris Cook is the other main academic casualty who also happened to be a starter. I'm actually less concerned about Lalich than I am the line in front of him. Monroe is still holding down left tackle just fine, but with Branden Albert now a Chief, the entire interior o-line will be new starters. This should be a 55/45 run/pass year for Virginia, with Mikell Simpson and Cedric Peerman probably making up the best and most versatile ACC RBs not named Spiller & Davis, but it's going to be hard to get them or Lalich moving anywhere if the interior's always crumbling. Most of the time, they won the close games last year through controlling the point of attack on either side of the ball.

 

I think the spread for the game will be around 21, if only because Virginia is largely an unknown commodity heading into this year.

Apparently, I-AA teams CAN play with the big boys on multiple levels.

 

 

Alabama State University, a I-AA team, has been brought up on *668* separate NCAA violations, including ineligible athletes using university training facilities as well as the changing of grades without the professor's permission.

Former LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has hired an agent after being dismissed from the team for repeated rules violations and brushes with the law. While the exact reason for Perrilloux's dismissal has not been confirmed, his past transgressions have included investigation of counterfeiting, providing false I.D. to enter a casino, causing a distu rbance at a restaurant and numerous missed classes and workouts.

Contacted by phone, agent Gus Felderman said that interest in his client has been very strong and that Perrilloux has narrowed his options down to two offers. "Ryan plans on spending this weekend with his family and hopefully come to a decision by Monday. While time is definitely an issue, he needs to weigh the pros and cons of each offer and come to a sound decision that will be the best for himself and his family. While Burger King has offered him his preference of 2nd shift so he doesn't have to get up so early, the free meal plan at McDonalds is something that you cannot overlook. He loves the cookies."

Just saw on NFL Network that Perrilloux will transfer to Jacksonville State.

 

They've gone 6-5 the past 3 seasons under coach Jack Crowe. Sounds like he could start and play this season right away, which should be interesting.

Since you keep up with 1-AA, how's Bobby Reid doing down at Texas Southern?

 

I keep flipping sides between Reid and Gundy when ESPN does their pieces on how Gundy's rant didn't actually help read and blah blah blah, then I remember I don't like either one of them and I remain happy.

 

Funny thing is, if Gundy had played Reid against OU the last two years he'd probably have a two-game winning streak going against the Sooners. Athletic QBs give OU FITS.

Instead he puts in Zac Robinson who fumbled on the goal line against OU not once but twice! In Stillwater two years ago he jumped backwards into the endzone and tried to stretch the ball and got nailed in the back and dropped it. He did basically the same thing in Norman last year.

 

I bet Reid wouldn't have done that. He's a good kid, who's done everything right.......

Yet another interesting story because Texas Southern went 0-11 last year... yeah, no wins. The two years before they went 3-8 and 1-10. Smart choice, Bobby...

 

Reid could start at QB although he may battle Tino Edgecombe for time (10 TD vs. 13 INT and will be a Sr.) but honestly, he really will struggle on the NFL Draft radar regardless if he started simply because his team won't be any good and has no offensive help around him. He has good size and speed (NFL Draft Scout has him between a 4.63 and 4.76) but he transferred due to getting injured and losing his job and transferred to a shitty program.

 

If he has a great season, he could be a Round 6/7 type pick but Rhett Bomar didn't exactly light up the world and he'll have another year to start and improve his stock.

 

I actually think I-AA will be really interesting this year with the following players starting or possibly starting: Rhett Bomar (Sam Houston State), Bobby Reid (Texas Southern), and Ryan Perriloux (Jacksonville State). This along with top QBs like Liam Coen (Mass), Bryant Lee (Southern), and Cole Bergquist (Montana) being other quarterbacks on the possible NFL Draft radar.

 

TSU does have a new head coach in Johnnie Cole (SIAC HC of the year in 2006, HC of Lane College) but I don't think they'll win more than 4-5 games on the year.

ESPN.com has a couple of interesting articles up about 6 to 8-man HS football players. One kid was OU's first recruit for 2009 so that one grabbed my attention, and then there was another about 8-man football players in general.

 

I thought it was kind of interesting just because I had my first exposure to 8-man football when I was covering HS football in SW Kansas. Most of the teams in my area were 8-man. The game was a lot different and the players were fast, but the thing that really stuck out to me was how small everyone was. Has anyone here ever played 8-man?

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame is renewing its television contract with NBC.

 

The university and NBC announced Thursday they have agreed to a five-year deal that runs through the 2015 season. The current contract was scheduled to expire in 2010.

 

This contract includes seven homes games per season. It allows for the first time an eighth off-site home game played at a neutral stadium.

 

NBC has broadcast Irish football since 1991.
