OAO 5/5/08 Raw Thread

Recommended Posts

I'm not big on Kennedy, but beating him now, in his first match back after being away and when he appeared to be gaining steam as a face, was beyond stupid. Especially when he got beat Chavo Guerrero of all people.

He was against 14 fucking people.

What is with you people and guys losing matches?

Booking 101 says you don't beat a guy who just turned face.

Where is that book at? Did they have it in 1985, when Dibiase turned face in Mid South and lost to Flair, after being screwed by Murdoch?

That you're seriously trying to compare one of the all-time great angles to how they're handling Kennedy says it all.

And I probably shouldn't be trying to talk about booking principles in the Raw thread. Entirely the wrong audience.

No, it clearly proves that a man can lose, after being turned face if he's screwed over. Being book against 14 people is a perfectly acceptable way to lose, especially when you take in to consideration, that Kennedy basically took all of the punishment in the match.

DiBiase wasn't exactly a face going into that Flair match though, the events in the match itself with Murdoch screwing him were the catalyst for the face turn. Kennedy just sorta showed up and we're now expected to cheer him because he's good now or something.

Regardless of the main event, which had the correct ending for what it was, this Regal shit is already way out of hand. Having him be somewhat favorable to Burchill or bringing out Mike Adamle is kinda funny, but the constant match stoppage and going dark is highly counterproductive. For instance, what if I'm on the fence about whether I want to see Judgment Day? Main event is HHH vs. Orton in a cage, yet with these goofy "going dark" finishes how am I supposed to be certain they won't do that sort of garbage in a PPV main event? It's a terrible precedent to set.

It doesn't help that the various guys in these matches don't know how to react to it. HHH was pissed about it, yet Orton seemed okay with the decision to go dark last week. Um...why? HHH at least simply retained his belt due to the bizarre ending, but Orton was basically screwed out of a chance to regain the title.

cabbageboy: Orton was OK with it because he was being a suck-up, so as not to piss off Regal and to incur his wrath. That's my view on the kayfabe side of that situation.

You mean have Our Lord and Savior take the fall?

HAHAHAHAHA

Pass the bong, brah!

You should be happy they didn't bury the entire roster like they did before(even though ECW2.0 is WWE Heat) as everyone expected them to do tonight

highlight this week was Adamle coming out with a shit eating grin and dishing out the high fives.

I couldn't tell if he did a fake out or not with the handshakes.

Paul and Katie have always been booked brother and sister.

The show was a mess. It's like with Hayes suspended and Steph on maternity that the bookers have gone bizarro for ratings rather than try to put together a solid show.

The ME sucked. Kennedy taking the pin was a letdown, but it was better than ECW losing to two wrestlers. I thought the best finish would have been the ECW faces siding with Kennedy and HHH and causing a non-finish.

Womens match was pretty bad. I think Mickie is terribly overrated as a worker.

I really don't remember anything else.

I'll preface this with the admission that I didn't watch much of Raw, and didn't see the match. But I always thought that the faces lost the first/early matches in a feud/angle, and then built from there to get the come-uppance at the end.

Having the face win right away would defeat the purpose of everything. He has to fight & claw his way to get to the heel that put him in that situation.

Just my $0.02.

Well there is this to consider with Kennedy as well....the guy isn't taken seriously enough to be one of 2 men to beat a dozen men. Let's face it, Kennedy wouldn't even be favored to beat some of the guys on the ECW side 1 on 1, much less against such ridiculous odds. Kennedy vs. Kane? Kane would probably win that match (kayfabe wise). Would Kennedy be such a big favorite over Chavo? Punk? With Cena and Orton they at least were both main eventing WM, with one being WWE champion and the other the previous champ, so them going through a bunch of Raw jobbers wasn't something that shocked people. But Ken Kennedy, a guy who has done nothing more than a forgettable US title reign suddenly beating up an entire roster? It isn't believable.

Regarding the women's division, why take the belt off Beth Phoenix? She was just starting to get into that "dominant heel champ" zone and they just job her to Mickie James for no good reason. Mickie is a solid women's worker that is sloppy at times, but she's not exactly someone who is going to create massive interest in the division.

Ah, I see. I thought the storyline was that they were lovers, but they didn't know of their relation, and then it was going to be revealed. Guess I haven't been paying attention.

This is a problem where because it was reported that's what the angle would be, some people who haven't been paying attention just assume that's what they are.

So I was at Raw last night, crowd was fairly into it (minus the main event) but the show really sucked. I was pretty drunk and noticing that a lot of people were shooting video in my section. So I decide to take a very short video clip of the Raw opening. Bad move. I had an usher escort me to the concorse where either an ACC security employee or WWE employee told me that I had to format my memory card or that i'd have to leave. I was almost considering leaving, but decided to stay and just agreed to the ridiculous demands. He was cool about it though, saying that the video policy is a little strict. It just sucks that I lost all my CN Tower pictures and everything else from that day.
