Ginger Snaps 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Whoa, that's a big drop for Narnia, but maybe it'll have longevity as the first big summer family movie. At least until the cartoons start coming out. Will Iron Man be the first film this year to break $300 million?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Iron Man has an outside shot at 300 million, it's been holding up really well. I think it should be able to do it, especially with the big film coming out this week directed at females
Craig Th 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Shit, we didn't do predictions for the whole summer. Screw it, let's do one anyway.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 I was thinking of starting the thread, but never got around to it. I would've had Iron Man with the 100+ opening, and Indy hitting $140 over the 5-day, but not Narnia's decline. I also didn't expect Speed Racer to tank that badly, I thought it'd still have a good opening weekend and then drop off.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Oh Speed Racer had horrible flop written all over it. Based on a crappy cartoon that no one really likes legitimately, maybe in an ironic cheese way like when MTV showed it. Directed by the Wachowski Bros. post Matrix sequels when most of the world loathes them. How could it possibly make money? Bob, I think Prince Caspian's dubious box office thus far can be attributed to a couple of things: First off, it has very little connection to the first film aside from the same 4 kids being in both. Second, there isn't all that much Aslan in the 2nd film.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 I think the main problem is what was discussed in other threads here. Namely that The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe is a well-known children's classic that is required reading in many schools (it certainly was in mine) and Prince Caspian is not. Also the lack of a name cast hurt as well. I know that the likes of Tilda Swinton, James McAvoy, Liam Neeson & Jim Broadbent are not big names, but at least people recognize them. Of those only Neeson returns in any significant role and while he was all over the advertising last time, you barely saw Aslan in the marketing of this film.
