CanadianChris Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Al actually had Austin/Dude as his backup pick last time around, in case I picked one of the matches he ended up choosing. So it was on a few people's minds.
Ravenbomb Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 I'm making my pick in just a minute, but while I'm picking between the two I have it narrowed down to, a question crossed my mind. Can we pick a particular commentary for a match? With WWE's DVDs there are sometimes new commentaries, could we pick a match with one of the new ones or does it have to be as-is the way it was originally broadcast?
Ravenbomb Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 *insert picture here* The Pitbulls vs. Raven and Stevie Richards Gangsta's Paradise 9/16/1995 Apparently a pretty polarizing match as to whether or not it's great or overrated. I love it. A damn good brawl (plus it's 2/3 falls which is one of my favorite stipulations) with bits of most of the major ECW storylines of the time thrown in; Raven's Nest, Tommy vs. Raven, Bill Alphonso the evil referee and 911 not being able to choke slam him, awesome stuff. And I'm really glad I get my two favorite Raven matches.

foleyfanforever88 Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 I didn't see this next match when it first happened, but I heard about how good it was so I downloaded it shortly after and loved it. I actually thought it might be gone by now, but luckily, it's not. Kurt Angle vs. Undertaker - No Way Out 2006
Jebus Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Still haven't seen that one myself. My loss. Wrestling after 2005 is not exactly my strong point.
CanadianChris Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 I can't tell you how many matches are running through my head right now.
CanadianChris Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 All right, it's probably too early to take this match, but I'd be mad at myself if I didn't get it. So, I'll grab the greatest match in this show's history... Randy Savage vs. Bret Hart, airdate November 28, 1987
Jebus Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 I do not like you, CC. I was saving that one cause it was "obscure". So...no, it wasn't too early and I'M mad at ME.
CanadianChris Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 I was saving it for the same reason, but that was just the kind of match that Al's liable to take.
Gert T Posted June 7, 2008 Author Report Posted June 7, 2008 I'm making my pick in just a minute, but while I'm picking between the two I have it narrowed down to, a question crossed my mind. Can we pick a particular commentary for a match? With WWE's DVDs there are sometimes new commentaries, could we pick a match with one of the new ones or does it have to be as-is the way it was originally broadcast? As far as I am concerned any form is fine by me, just explain why you want said commentary.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 I don't really have time to find pictures. Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood vs. Sgt. Slaughter & Don Kernodle - Cage Match for the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championship. March 1983. A runner-up for PWI match of the year, and a fantastic battle.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Sting vs. Cactus Jack - Beach Blast '92
CanadianChris Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 I want a really long match, and a Rock match. This qualifies on both counts: Iron Man match for the WWF Championship: The Rock [c] vs. Triple H, Judgment Day, May 21, 2000 The video package for this was just fantastic, too.
Gert T Posted June 7, 2008 Author Report Posted June 7, 2008 DAMN! The very match I passed up to get Austin-Angle last round. Good pick, and I love when the crowd goes batshit when the Undertaker comes back.
foleyfanforever88 Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 With a username like mine, I can't not have this match with me on the island. Mankind vs. The Rock - WWF Championship Match - Raw 1/4/99 - Foley Wins Title
Ravenbomb Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 My turn? Ok Toshiaki Kawada vs. Mitsuharu Misawa 6/3/1994 I wanted some All Japan on my island, and this is the best example I've seen. I'm not really familiar with the backstory or feud between these two like some others here probably are, I just think it's a great match.
Gert T Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Well, since Rock-HHH is gone, I am going to take THAT match: Triple H v. Shawn Michaels v. Chris Benoit/World Heavyweight Championship/Wrestlemania XX Most likely a Top 15 pick had this draft taken place last year. The build was good, the match was better.
Jebus Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 With my next pick, I choose: Bret & Owen Hart vs. Rick & Scott Steiner - January 11, 1994 Probably the most famous Coliseum Video exclusive match (WrestleFest 1994). 25 minutes of AWESOME. If you haven't seen it, "YouTube" it.
Gert T Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Big Board is updated through 78 picks and mellowblissful is up!
PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 World Heavyweight Championship Match HHH vs. Shawn Michaels RAW is WAR December 29, 2003 Maybe my favorite RAW match of all time. It went from being an excellent free television contest to me marking out and rooting for Shawn, truly thinking that I was going to witness the top championship change hands. This match went a long way to renew my faith in wrestling at a time when I was really starting to give up.
TheFranchise Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 WCW Fall Brawl 1996 Team WCW vs Team nWo Everybody was wondering whose side Sting would be on, and of course the surprise member for Team WCW.. Sting. For those who have never seen a War Games match, or this particular match.. highly recommended. Link to the match below! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd69xHK-27I...feature=related
Canadian Brandon Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 This is going to be the third Hell in a Cell match taken so far. I'm surprised that this one has not been taken. Some of the craziest spots in any wrestling match. The Undertaker vs. Mankind. Hell In A Cell. King of the Ring. June 28, 1998
mw679 Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels/WWF Title/Survivor Series/November 25th, 1992 One of the early encounters between these two and it doesn't disappoint. This is for Bret's title but not for Shawn's I-C belt. It gets a tad slow in the middle, but picks up nicely toward the end with Bret and Shawn trading moves and Bret eventually locking in the Sharpshooter for the victory. Heenan and Vince do a good job on commentary as well.
TheFranchise Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Another fine match.. the third Bret/Michaels match to make it!
CanadianChris Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Oh, very good. I always thought that was the best match of the three.
godthedog Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 ^ditto. just amazingly well-paced. the timing on that trying-to-capitalize-on-other-guy-trapped-in-the-ropes-but-too-late bump is great. i like that the match doesn't seem to have that burden of greatness the latter ones did, that they were more concerned with having an under-the-radar really good match.
mw679 Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Thanks, guys. Can you really go wrong with any Bret/HBK match? Considering how much they didn't like each other later in their careers, they really did just seem to click whenever they met in the ring.
CanadianChris Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 I think that's probably why the first match was the best. They didn't hate each other at the time, and they were able to have a really nice back-and-forth match. Whereas with the ironman match, neither guy seemed to want to give anything to the other, and the last, well, you know.
Gert T Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 On behalf of King Cucaracha, his 7th pick: 1990 Royal Rumble Match Maybe it's just nostalgia, but this is easily my favourite Rumble match. As a kid I used to rent this out on video more than any other event and as a result, I could probably recite most of the commentary in the first five minutes off the top of my head. The line-up as argueably as star-studded as 1992. Almost everybody comes in and does something with some sort of purpose in the match (unlike 92). The crowd is red-hot, especially at the start. It has the first 'Rumble marathon run' angle in Dibiase. The sequence from Dibiase/Jake/Savage/Piper is one of my favourite ever in wrestling. It builds at least 4 WrestleMania matches and continues the build for a couple more. Including, of course, the Hogan/Warrior battle in mid-match, another of my favourite sequences in Rumble history. Just one of my favourite matches ever.
