King Kamala 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 This is a thread to discuss the tape we'll be watching at this week's meeting of The TSM Tape Club...Bash At The Beach 2000. I figure starting a new thread would be the best way to attract attention for this thingy. Part One Part Deux Part Three (Featuring Ralphus!) Part Four Part Five Part Six Part Seven Part Eight Part Nine Part Ten The meeting adjourns tonight in the TSM chat room at 8 P.M. but feel free to do some post show talk here. And those who cannot attend but have seen this Russorific show, feel free to make comments here as well.
Obi Chris Kenobi 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 In fairness, I had stopped watching WCW way before this show, so I think this honestly might be the FIRST time I've ever seen it. In a strange way of not knowing, I'm looking forward to it... maybe.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Actually, this could be the first time for me as well. I know I've seen bits and pieces of the show (Booker T Vs Jeff Jarrett, The Graveyard Match, Jeff Jarrett Vs Hollywood Hogan and the ensuing pandemonium) but other parts of the card seem completely foreign to me. Maybe I've blocked it out of my memory but I don't think I've seen this in its entirety. Should be...interesting.
Obi Chris Kenobi 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Well it was strange in the UK, as we'd get Nitro on a Friday with Thunder shown afterwards, but we'd not get the PPVs - unless you had a swanky huge dish in the backyard that could hook into various feeds. So, we'd get to see Nitro and then still photos from PPVs. Its only now I've got the internet that I've been able to watch alot of the PPVs to go with the Nitros I've seen. Thanks private trackers! DarKnight 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 This was a very funny and weird show. It has such "classics" as the graveyard match, the Hogan/Jarrett fiasco, and Russo's bizarre shoot afterwards. Ironically, I didn't think this show was that bad to watch. It was sort of entertaining in a car wreck kind of way, but if you want to see a really hideous show, watch the PPV the month after this: NEW BLOOD RISING!!! Jingus 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 I've seen the Russo promo and of course the Daffney match, but I think I'm going in virginal on most of this ppv. BTW: for Dailymotion n00bs, start loading the video streams now. It can be a little slow sometimes, depending on your computer.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Alright, five minute warning, everyone participating get your streams loading and get your ass in the chatroom.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 I'm about to head into the chat- hopefully we can shatter our record of three and a half people in the chat tonight
Obi Chris Kenobi 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 I tapped out after 60mins... brutal... just too brutal.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 I may have been the only one in the chat that didn't completely hate that show. Sure, the booking completely sucked and the show wasn't very good but there was enough WrestleCrap and watchable matches to keep me mildly entertaining. The difference between Russo shows and Sullivan shows were Russo's shows moved. Sure they ended up going nowhere- but they moved. That Vampiro/Demon Graveyard match made those vignettes where Jake Roberts was training The Warrior look like Citizen Kane. Some of the funniest stuff I've seen on a professional wrestling show. Jingus 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Oh man that hurt. Literally, I got these weird muscle aches up and down my body after watching that show. This was oh so terrible, clowned up from the ground up. The booking on this show was so thoroughly awful that it defies description. EVERY match had some kind of outside interference. NO match had a clean finish. (This doesn't include Stasiak/Palumbo vs Kronik, but I'm trying to forget I ever saw that one.) Oh, to be sure, there were fun moments here and there: Juventud bumping himself to death, Ralphus swinging a garbage can, Daffney being Daffney, and the rather surprisingly ecstatic reaction for Booker's first title win. But those moments were little raisins of gold in one giant cookie of crap. FUCK RUSSO.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 The Russo Holy Trinity of Suck would have to be GAB 2000, BATB 2000, and the Russo crowning moment of crap known as New Blood Rising. Those shows all seem like they were done in back to back to back nights, all have the same feel, and all are truly head scratching.
Timmy8271 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 Oh man that hurt my head all that Russo booking. Jarrett/Booker and Chavo/Juvi wasn't bad. But everything else was just horrible. Especially the Wedding match and Sting/Vamp. However, None of it was as bad as the Varsity Club/J Chono match from the last tape club. That might have been the worst non Monterrey match I've ever seen.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2008 The Russo Holy Trinity of Suck would have to be GAB 2000, BATB 2000, and the Russo crowning moment of crap known as New Blood Rising. Those shows all seem like they were done in back to back to back nights, all have the same feel, and all are truly head scratching. I'll still take those three any day of the week over Souled Out 2000, SuperBrawl X, and Uncensored 2000. Another difference between Russo and Sullivan (and I hate to sound like a Russo apologist because I swear I'm not) is that Russo's shows leave me frustrated at how inane the booking is while Sullivan's shows leave me frustrated at how ungodly boring they are. Russo's shows are headscratchers and they give me headaches but I can't really say I'm bored by them. Not by any stretch of the imagination. It's kind of preliminary but it looks like next time, we'll be watching World War III '96. Which IIRC isn't all that bad of a show. At the very least, it should be leagues better than what we've watched for our first two meetings.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2008 Kamala, there is one key difference for me when it comes to the PPVs you listed....I simply haven't seen Souled Out 2000. I now regret not seeing it given how historically terrible it was (though more for backstage stuff than in the ring). SuperBrawl 2000 was a PPV I saw at a sports bar and I recall it being mediocre, but I'd need to see it again. Uncensored 2000 is just bad and boring, though for whatever reason I don't find it among the worst PPVs I've ever seen. Maybe I'm a mark for the Rhodes/Funk feud with Funk wearing chickens for boxing gloves?
DarKnight 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Yeah, Uncensored 2000 is a show that gets better on repeat viewings. Souled Out 2000 is probably really awful, but I also think Superbrawl 2000 sounds like the worst PPV ever just from looking at the card.
