Guest Incandenza Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 When Brock Lesnar won the King of the Ring tournament, my initial thought was that he is the next Mabel, but given more time to think about it, I realize I was a little hasty. If Brock Lesnar does in fact turn out to be the next Mabel, then he'll be gone by the end of the year, which, given how high the WWE is on him, I'll doubt. He stands a better chance at being the next Billy Gunn, in that his push will deemed a horrible failure by Summerslam, yet he'll still be bumming around the WWE, probably in the tag ranks, and occasionally getting a singles push that'll go nowhere. Or maybe, just maybe, Brock Lesnar will display some actual talent over the upcoming months, and though he may not be quite on the talent level of Kurt Angle, he'll come close. Time will tell. So, folks, what do you think? (And RVD fanboys, please put aside your hatred of Brock for the time being and try to think of this rationally.)
Guest Ripper Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 I don't think you guys get it. The WWE is on a "We will push him and you will love it, dammit" mode here. They did it for the Rock, they did it for Bret, they did it for HHH, they did it for Angle and they will do it for Brock. The difference between thier pushed and Billy Gunns is that when Billys failed, they abandoned it and tried a gain later. With Rock, HHH, Bret, Angle, they just kept on and kept on non-stop until you liked them.
Guest Angle-plex Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 King Mabel. Period. Hey, WWE, there is a reason you didn't show KOTR 95 in the highlights.....
Guest Incandenza Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 With Rock, HHH, Bret, Angle, they just kept on and kept on non-stop until you liked them. You can include Edge in that group, who is over, in spite of some people's claims that those who think Edge is over is due to the WWE's marketing machine, which would imply that we're morons who can't think for ourselves (that person knows who I'm talking about). Besides, I think they really tried the same thing with Gunn--and still try--but it fails every time.
Guest Anglesault Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 Don't EVER compare him to Angle again. I'd say he's not quite going to be Mabel or Gunn, but King Edge. Not offensively bad, but NEVER put him near the world title
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 Did Anglesault just admit that Edge isn't as bad as he made him sound?
Guest Anglesault Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 I never said he was outright BAD. I said he had to be carried to all good matches, he sucked on the stick and he was extremely boring and repetative. That still ranks over Billy Gunn and Mabel, and it's not that horrible if you keep him at like Euro/IC level. It was just INSANE that they tried to amke him an ME.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 So your only 3 options are a fat jobber who's never worked a one star match...a jobber that was shoved down fans throats till they threw him up and now he's in a homosexual tag team...and Kurt Angle?! I was thinking more like King Shamrock...a heavy mini push then eventually settling down into a upper midcard role.
Guest Ripper Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 "You can include Edge in that group, who is over, in spite of some people's claims that those who think Edge is over is due to the WWE's marketing machine, which would imply that we're morons who can't think for ourselves (that person knows who I'm talking about). " No, its the WWE marketing machine. Its not as much saying that you can't think of yourself..more like "Look, we are going to keep pushing this guy...wheter you like him or not...so just accept him because, quite simply, he is going to be on your screen, you might as well enjoy it." They gave Billy Gunn pushes, he would do something stupid backstage to lose the push, then they would start over...then they wouldn't stick with it...then start over. HHH got a 2 year constant push...Rock got a 1 1/2 year constant push...Angle got a god push non-stop...Bret just kept getting pushed to the fans cared. if the WWE wants Brock to be a star and the fans don't, SO FUCKING WHAT, you WILL like him because the WILL push him.
Guest Masked Heel Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 Brock equals King Mable for the simple reason that he has done nothing in his career and is not diserving of it at all he has potintial but it needs to build even with all the quick success Kurt had he had held every singles title before winning king of the ring shit even billy gunn had won titles before he was king Realisticly RVD or Jericho should have been the finals and one of them should have one btw what the hell was the point of having a heel v heel match with brock and test it had no heat at all and there was no point Hardcore Holly couldn't have done any worse and at least he's a face
Guest Incandenza Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 I was thinking more like King Shamrock...a heavy mini push then eventually settling down into a upper midcard role. Good call, but I went with the three I did because two of them are the most notable KotR failures in history, and Angle was the most recent major success story. No, its the WWE marketing machine. What I was talking about was the idea brought up in another thread that Edge wasn't over AT ALL, and that anyone who thought so was a victim of the WWE marketing machine. While there's no doubt that the WWE's force feeding Edge down the fans' throats is what helped him get over, he's still over. I do agree with you, though.

I thought you said he was bad. Where the hell is "Commander of Commerce" in your signature or sub-name?
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 I bet it doesn't sit well with the Angleholics that Brock is going to win the Title faster than Angle did.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 Eh, not really. Angle was over, Brock is not.
Guest Zack Malibu Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 I'm not really for or against Brock Lesnar's win. I like the guy, but not enough to have him shoved down my throat. On the other hand, I think that the WWE needs him to develop into a better all around wrestler rather than what he is now. One week he's selling like Spike Dudley, the next week he's Goldberg Jr. That's two very different styles, and they negate each other, leaving the fans with nothing but apathy for him. I think the WWE would have been better going with a Triple H win last night (did I just say that???) due to NWO interference. Van Dam wins KOTR over Brock, due to The Rock (have some type of angle set up his involvement/run-in). Build Brock up by having him kick Rock's ass and get the rub, see where it takes him. Meanwhile, you can put Van Dam over in the ME (Finally) by having him beat a heel Triple H, the guy everyone hates (in gimmick and in reality!) at Summerslam. All in all, give Lesnar a shot. He's not getting great responses now, but neither did Angle, Benoit, etc. until they stayed on one path and fans knew how to take to them.
Guest Anglesault Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 I bet it doesn't sit well with the Angleholics that Brock is going to win the Title faster than Angle did. Why should I care? Angle doesn't hold the record anyway
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 i think it is pretty clears from last nights performance that brock is going to "billy gunn" this years king of the ring too. it too bad because brock shows potential too, but he is just lost in the ring and hasn't had one good match since debuting.
Guest caboose Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 The real question that should be asked is which of the previous 'Pushes From Hell' will Brock's 'Push From Hell' resemble? Push From Hell 1: Lex Luger (93-94) Will Brock become the Choker? Push From Hell 2: Rocky Maivia (96-97) Will Brock become the Blue Chipper? Push From Hell 3: Triple H (99-2000) Will Brock ultimately get over? Push From Hell 4: Kurt Angle (99-2001) Will Brock become entertaining and end up the target of a Stalker (BrockSault?)?
Guest Shaved Bear Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I voted Gunn, cause he didnt flop as much as Mabel
Guest Sandman9000 Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 BrockSault? It'd be more like the BrockStarPress. And I don't believe you can completely judge a man's career in three months. Ask this question next year and we'll have a solid answer, hopefully.
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 I think Brock will become a King Edge-esque type of guy. Teasing Main Event level but never fully becoming a Main Eventer......
alfdogg Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 I think he'll eventually have a matchup with Goldberg, followed by a failed attempt to play in the NFL.
Zack Malibu Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 It's surreal seeing a wrestling topic started by Inc.
Zack Malibu Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Fine by me. I'm hooked on those damn things.
