Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2008 I'm a little confused as to the usage of the word titular versus the word eponymous. I thought that "titular" was referring to the thing after which something was named (The titular character in a movie) and "eponymous" was referring to the thing named after something (The character from the eponymous movie) but I've seen both of them used either way. Are they interchangable?
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2008 Personally, I've always used them the way you described there. Both are favorite words of mine, due to their infrequent use but frequent need, along with xenophobic and penultimate.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2008 I once got points taken off in an English class in high school for using the word "titular" because the teacher hadn't heard of the word.
