MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 Inauguration rentals in the greater DC area are already insane. My coworker's been offered $3500 for three nights in her shitty 2BR/den on Capitol Hill. All the hotels are already booked, so super-enthusiastic Obamamaniacs and people with money to burn are trying to lock up residential housing. Time to make that cheddar and spend a few nights on the street, y'all. I might see if I can rent a room out here and cash in. Im conveniently located! Only 3 hours away from Washington. fun factoid! I went to Clinton's first Innauguration in 1993. I got a day out of school and got to talk about it the next day and was the envy of..no one. Basically we ended up just walking around and we ended up missing the actual ceremony itself because somehow we couldn't find it. YAY!
Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 Didn't take long: "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism." Rep. Paul Broun, left, says President-elect Obama's idea for a civilian force is " exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did." Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military. "That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist." http://news.aol.com/elections/article/repu...atorship/243817

SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 Will it help if I say that the huge govt policies of the past eight years wasn't conservatism, again? Please explain how excessive deregulation of the financial sector, skewing tax policy to help the top earners, and failing to enfore consumer protection laws are "huge government policies." snuffbox 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 A three trillon dollar war, trillions added to the debt, very little in the way of tax cuts for the full populace, expansion of the girth and span of the federal government, an unrelenting focus on social issues that require even more laws/regulations/money... SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 I think the main reason McCain lost was because of the economy. The biggest issues/problems in the economy are the meltdown of the financial services sector and the reduction in the consumer purchasing power of the middle and lower class. Those are not problems that were caused by big government.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 Obama has unlimited free passes using the "Get out of trouble by blaming Bush for it" card on anything to do with the Economy. Nothing he's going to do when he's in office is going to make the economy any better than it is and quite possibly it'll end up in worse shape in 4 years. But its not his fault. He's going to be the Gene Snitsky of politics.

SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 There's someone else we've forgotten that Obama decided to distance himself from in the primaries, and who bares some of the blame for our current financial mess. I'll give you a hint: he once said, "The era of big government is over," and his wife was Obama's competition for the Democratic nomination.

Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 Where the hell is John McCain and what the hell is he up to? Seems like the only Republican that the media has talked about since the election is Sarah Palin. McCain was on Jay Leno tonight and gave a pretty good interview. What's hilarious is that after being shielded constantly from the media throughout the campaign, now that it is over Sarah Palin has no problem appearing all over the TV shows. She was on the Today Show this morning, is going to be on Larry King and The Situation Room on CNN tomorrow, and I'm sure there's plenty more in store. Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 Well, I think it's obvious at this point that Palin is at least giving serious thought to a run in 2012, so she has to do as much spin and damage control as possible right now. There are a lot of Republican pundits out there helping her out...I heard Hannity talking the other day about how she helped energize the base, and how the claims about her not knowing Africa is a continent are "ludicrous and false," etc. They were also up in arms about all the attention given to her clothing budget. Which is funny because if either of the Obamas or Joe Biden had somehow spent even half that much on their wardrobe, people like Hannity and Limbaugh would have talked about it non-stop. Big Ol' Smitty 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 This would be my response to snuffbox's line about "true conservatism": There is no such thing as an "intellectual movement" that attains a higher or truer reality than its actual manifestation among real human beings. If, say, [snuffbox] wants to argue that Conservatism in 21st century America is not all about denying gays equal rights, more power to him -- but when that fight is won, "liberals" are going to get the prize for it, not "conservatives." I could make an argument that gay marriage is in line with "classical liberal" values, and so essentially "conservative," etc. etc., but as a practical matter, you want gay rights? Vote Democrat, call yourself a "liberal," and get your ass out there on the "Left" with the rest of the "socialists." http://whiskeyfire.typepad.com/whiskey_fir...directions.html
Nightwing 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2008 An interesting development in the Auto Industry crisis: Apparently Obama is looking to appoint an "Auto Czar" to oversee the bailout of the Auto Companies. From Politico “President-elect Barack Obama wants a high-profile point person to oversee reforms in the ailing auto industry, according to members of Obama’s transition team. … The person would assist in efforts to create an “economically viable auto industry,” a transition aide said – a move that could alleviate concerns about protecting taxpayer interests if more money is directed to assist automakers.” I think that's a great idea, and it'll go a long way to give people faith that he isn't just tossing people cash and that he's going to clamp down on the self-inflicted wounds of the auto industry.
