King Kamala 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 I know this is a week old but I haven't seen it anywhere else here (and I'm not going to wade through a bunch CTDWAT pages) The Last Standalone VCR rolls off the assembly line 'Tis is a sad day. I believe the VCR played as pivotal of a role in the end of The Cold War as Regan and Gorbachev. Once The Russians saw our sweet way of life through bootleg VHS copies of Porky's, Rambo: First Blood Part II and Teen Wolf, they couldn't put up with communism for much longer. RepoMan 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 I actually need to get around to purchasing a new (for me at least) VCR for all the movies I don't feel like buying again and all the old stuff I taped off of TV.

That was the main one. "Holy SHIT, did you see how many of our troops that American guy killed?!" I still do have a fuckload of VHS tapes, mostly wrestling stuff but also a lot of movies. I do need to get myself a new VCR sometime before they stop selling the damn things, the ones I have are a bit old and tired.

CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 It's hard to believe, isnt it? I know it's been dwindling to a halt for about six or seven years, but I'd say, when I was at Wal*Mart, I sold about three VCR's a week, and probably a dozen combo units per week. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 Yeah I would always buy a combo unit since I still have all sorts of old tapes that I might want to play. Or a combo DVD/VHS recorder so I can convert stuff over to disc.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 Of those that record VHS to DVD, how much can you get on one DVD? Cause I have a LOT of MST3Ks I have got to transfer before time runs out. Plus it'll probably return like the record player did. Blank VHS tapes won't but I'm sure the VCR will show his ugly head again.
Jebus 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 Of those that record VHS to DVD, how much can you get on one DVD? Cause I have a LOT of MST3Ks I have got to transfer before time runs out. Depending on the speed, I can record either 1, 2, 4 or 6 hours per DVD. I tend to stick to 2 hours (SP mode) because the picture gets too pixellated after that. 6 hour mode looks like shit and I use 4 hour mode only when transferring old 3 hour wrestling PPV's. PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 If you are so inclined you can compress over 20 hours onto a dual layer disc. I have the entire season of on 24 on one disc that a friend of mine bought while he was stationed in Afghanistan, and, yes, the quality is as horrible as you would think.
