Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2008 TV On The Radio's Dear Science just replaced Portishead's Third as my favorite album of the year.
Guest C*Z*E*C*H Report post Posted September 26, 2008 I was going to listen to that tonight but I'm not going to have time, I don't think. As I think I said already, Dave Sitek projects either amaze me or irritate the shit out of me with not a lot of middle ground.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2008 I was gonna make a thread about that album but then I didn't. Anyway, it's pretty good. Nothing on it really reaches the stratospheric heights of "Wolf Like Me" or "Province" but it also never drags like Return to Cookie Mountain kinda did in its second half. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2008 Dear Science is terrific. Still too soon for me to say how it stacks up against RTCM, which was my favorite release from 2006. The new album is a different kind of animal; less dense, looser, and even sort of sexy. There's also a couple of genuinely lovely ballads on it.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2008 It's been getting better with every listen for me. First time though I found it a lil bit underwhelming, now I love it without reservation. "Family Tree" is fucking gorgeous.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2008 Aw man, I want to like 'Family Tree', but I just can't. The rest is quality, and I enjoyed the update of The Wedding Present's 'pummelling outro as long as the song' thing for 'Shout Me Out'.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted September 30, 2008 I just bought that TV on the Radio. Pretty terrific.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2008 I've decided Dear Science is a notch below Return to Cookie Mountain, with both trailing Young Liars, which is still my favorite release from this decade. Best currently active band, without a doubt.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 Best currently active band, without a doubt. Â They're def. in contention, but I think I'd give that honor to Boris.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 You know, I like this stuff, but I'll just never be able to talk/think about it the way you guys do.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 How do you mean?
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 Well, actually, Boris I can get behind, but like... TV On the Radio. Yeah, I enjoy their stuff very much, but it's just... so what? I need more than music from my music. I suppose it's just my theatrical mindset.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 I worked a fuckton over the weekend and have only now gotten to really dive into Dear Science. It is super-good. "Pummeling" is a good word for "Shout Me Out." I just really like the whole thing.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 TVOTR's Kyp Malone is the only "well-known" musician I got to interview during my college radio tenure. He was a friendly, engaging guy. I almost got the chance to talk to Damo Suzuki, but, due to visa issues, he ended up having to leave the country a week before the interview.
