DECLASSIFIED: Changes made by Leelee and Xavier

Recommended Posts

Oh, I have an idea for Classic Threads. It would be done like Hall of Fame voting. Once per year, we would select a panel of maybe 20 good posters (who volunteer), and then if like at least 80% of them voted in favor of a classic thread nominee, it would be moved to classics.

I also think a Rookie of the Year tournament would be a good idea (i.e., anyone who joined from 1 January to 31 December of the previous year). Encourage new posters.

Who are the others?

Admins

Dr. Tom

Andrew (friend of mine from elsewhere, he'll be more behind the scenes)

Another potential helper with funds that I don't want to mention yet.

RedJed

Jingus (sorta declined)

Some more I'm checking out to see other accounts they might have used, etc...

This is all in the name of good boarding, right? I won't come back tomorrow and find a big fish eye or something.

Well, the posters whom I nominated to Leelee to be mods are the ones who I feel are the most insightful, rational, and capable—not just my friends.

P.S. The posters I nominated are

* objet petit a

* Czech

* Crimson G

* Edwin MacPhisto

* DrVenkman PhD

* Smitty

They're a necessary evil as sometimes people really do want to declare, "Hey, did anyone catch Neil Patrick Harris as a Shoe Fairy on Sesame Street? Crazy!" but that really, really does not warrant a thread. The month to month break down in the WWE Folder seem to work, though this usually requires me to pay attention to split threads (which I've been told I'm good at). I don't even think the March WWE Thread will hit 300 posts!

Hi, Everybody!

Wow, I haven't been in this folder for almost six years.

Points:

1. Edwin would probably be a good dude to have, if you could get him to agree.

2. I'm apparently in charge of the Movies/TV folder. Any specific issues anyone feels need to be addressed?

3. Czech? (grumble, grumble) ...if necessary, I s'pose.

4. It does irritate me to see the number of people who say "yeah, Gary Floyd's being a stalker... but, it's Jingus" in the Tard Fight thread. Which is double ironic since Floyd registered at the Pit today and is all nice to me now.

5. I've never seen the problem in the Comments That Don't Warrant megathreads, they help keep the folders from getting cluttered up with a bunch of pointless new topics which never go past a half-dozen posts. Never understood what discussion the CTDWAThreads are supposed to be preventing.

6. So who was responsible for all the gay pron in the Raw threads and elsewhere recently?

7. Am I the first guy to ever be a mod on two boards at once in the TSM Extended Universe? By which I mean WDI, Vanilla Midgets, Socialists Sanctuary, New Millenium Blues, whatever Mr Rant's poor unpopulated board was called, etcetera. Well no, I've already answered my own question, that spoony bard IllustriousOne worked here and at the Pit (temporarily) at the same time.

And to everyone else: "We don't say goodbye... we say Good Journey!".

Meh. The problem with classic threads here is that they're usually based on mocking people for doing something dumb. We already have too much of that sentiment here.

I like that. If you want to run something like that, go ahead.

I don't know why, but people always seem to blame things on people who aren't on the forums. :) I know we have had alot of spam and automated post from other servers in the past 2-3 months.

I did, but he nicely declined. Kinda disappointed there. :(

3. Czech? (grumble, grumble) ...if necessary, I s'pose.

I know how you two are, but he's a legend at this place. I still have the offer on the table for him once he gets over being butthurt with those friends o' his.

I really dislike Gary Floyd's posting habits, but he keeps it in NHB, so not much I can do. I'm definitely on your side with this one, though.

I'd be interested in reading what Edwin wrote about declining the position.

(Edit by Leena): Just said he didn't have the time for it. Crimson has said the same.

I enabled the Junk Drawer, which collects deleted posts. Also, regular members cannot delete their posts now.

This is in response to Vitamin X deleting his WAH post so Sam Barron could yell at me, or something.

It's possible I just don't know how to do any of this, but things I thought the other non-admin mods could do - ban people, change their name, change the names of folders all seem to be things I can't do. I'm not looking to ban anyone or anything, but right now it seems my controls are almost unchanged.

I think that's partly because we're classified as moderators, not supermods. IIRC I could ban people 'n stuff back when I was one of those. Now, my powers seem limited to deleting or editing posts, and maybe moving them around too with the "moderate this thread" pulldown list.

One good idea the previous administration had was the Larvae group. Seems like we frequently get brand-new noobs who come in and promptly start a dozen inane threads on their first day.

I didn't mind Larvae, but we're holding off now because it's kind of a pain. The easiest way to do it is to set it so anyone under 25 posts can't create a thread. But, we have some "established" posters that did the -8,4223,123 post hilarity, and thus it would include them, and we'll get bitching, etc...

So, either I have to remember to move every new poster to Larvae, or remove the silly post counts, and I really don't care enough to do either.

Upon checking, there's only one non-banned person with a negative post count, Sandman for whatever reason. He'd be the only one to fix, if he even starts topics at all anymore. Making this switch would also keep spambots from doing that shit where they sign up and instantly start threads hawking their nigerians princes and penis pills.

Czech seems too invested in their new interim board, so I doubt he's coming. Tom might be interested, want me to talk to him? We still need at least a couple more people just to insure there's always a mod online in case shit goes down, which of course it inevitably will sometime.

I see. I'll just add a rule that people can't post topics until they have 25 posts, it probably won't be visible on the board.

Ask Tom there if you want. Also, let Prince Paul know he's no longer banned. :)

I did think of doing this in the wrestling folder - I thought a general question in General Wrestling would work best, but I guess maybe the WWE Folder would work too - but didn't go with it right away because I figured it would look like I was riding on AoO's coattails.

I think the WWE folder could use questions more than anywhere else. Zhangmeijie is asking good questions, just not as directly as they should be asked. (What's next for Kane? Has prestige been restored to the IC title? What should be done with Jericho?) You could ask about upcoming/recent matches, current storylines, character potential, backstage BS, or whatever other quirky ideas come to mind. I think that you should go ahead with it if you want to.

Related note I: I think that the subject of the question should be in the topic's description the day after the question is asked. See what I did to the AoO questions in The Gulag for reference. I think that the current day's question should be a mystery until people enter the thread.

Related note II: Who's handling what folders, both in regard to potential questions of the day and in general? Non-authoritative hypothesizing here:

WWE: Venkman

General: JST

TNA: RedJed

MMA: Mik

World: XC/objet

Sports: Cheech

Entertainment: Jingus

Music: Kinetic

Video Games: Alyanna

Tech: -

Food: -

Lit: objet/Cheech

Gulag: Everyone

Sex: Alyanna

GTG: XC/Kinetic

That sounds good - I mean, I think any of us should be able to take appropriate actions in all of the various folders (in a way that doesn't step on feet of others), but in terms of a "This is said mod's main domain", that list makes sense.

Works for me, since General is where I do most of my lurking and occasional posting. Though I do admit I haven't paid much attention to the QOTD concept, as in I have the attention span of a 3 year old and have no idea what the hell it is.
