And when did they stop showing Batman: TAS? I just saw an episode on Cartoon Network late last week.

Well, late last year, they were showing episodes from the WB run (The New Batman Adventures, the one with Nightwing), and, just before they were gonna finish the WB run and begin showing older episodes everyday, it was replaced by Batman Beyond, which was replaced by anime or something. The episodes of both Superman and Batman that you saw Saturday night/Sunday morning are about to be replaced by Batman Beyond.

Thanks, Bob.

Just thought I'd make you all jealous by mentioning I'm watching NewsRadio on TV right now.

The episode where Matthew & Jimmy switch jobs, and the CD club comes after Beth.

A&E who? Long live Channel 48!

Channel 48 also provides us XPW, CZW, and ROH tv shows.

Sadly, they're on at midnight during the week, which makes it tough when you have to wake up @ 6:00 AM

Well it's been 19 days and I thought this thread would die but it turns out we have another huge NewsRadio fan in our midst-

JUSTWITTY!~

So anyway- this thread is famous for winning best of the thread year and for having 431 replies- most of it just been 4 guys even though TRITEC and bravesfan contribute occasionally.

So JustWitty- this is THE PLACE to pimp Newsradio. Gazziza

You know, I've been trying to pull the thread up with the search engine since last Wednesday. I always forget Bob has the link in his sig. Anyhoo, I was told Phil's brother was on the Today Show Wednesday morning talking about the comedy CD I found on Amazon, so I guess it's just now getting released. They played a clip of Phil impersonnating Groucho Marx.

Justwitty is so my new favorite poster, especially since we're used to getting so many dull posters whose names I don't know that don't like NewsRadio. They'll learn...

When in pain- the sig is umm your umm I can't think of a rhyme but if you ever want to bump it you'll have to read through one of my Regal pimping posts to get it.

I may go to HMV and see if they have it- I badly want it.

Does the revenue go to any charity or is it just Phil's bro raking in the dough? Not that I mind-I think it'd be cool if the CD went to a good cause.

Well, since this is the first of what is sure to be many posts in this thread, allow me to simply add in my two cents on best season and best episode per season. (I believe this was discussed earlier in the thread.)

Best Season: Season 3.

It seemed they all jelled finally as an ensemble and knew where they wanted to take the show and characters. (for example, Jimmy was a lot more loose and part of the gang at this point, Bill was reaching his peak of brilliance, Dave was crazy and a casual observer at the same time, etc.) Season 4 featured the best writing of situations coming together (look at the Andrea episodes for proof) but without Catherine, it just wasn't the same.

Favorite Episode (not necessarily best) Per Season:

Season 1: Smoking. This was my first ever Newsradio Ep. and I have NEVER laughed harder than when I first saw Dave and Bill snapping at Matthew.

Season 2: Led Zepplin II.

"The Devil mixes his lies with the truth people! Let's go!" I use this line WAY too much.

Season 3: Airport. This and The Public Domain are my absolute favorite Bill episodes. My mom and I still crack up at his "lemons" line.

Season 4: The Public Domain. Bob put it best, this was the height of Bill at his "fucktardom" and the how the plots all intertwine and Dave's meltdown were just brilliantly uncovered. Possibly the best episode ever. (imo.)

Season 5: Clash of the Titans. I just really liked Jimmy in the episode and Patrick Warburton's farewell speech cracked me up.

Well there you have it, a way too long first Newsradio post. But, it's Newsradio, there are not enough words to describe the greatness that was this show.

I'm more of a season 4 mark myself- It was cool seeing them do episodic tv for the first time and a lot of great episodes are from that period.

Smoking is great- I love when Bill hands Dave the $100.

Airport is a TERRIFIC Bill episode- a lot of people dont like because of the unhappy ending and the fact that there really is nothing uplifting about the episode but it is hilarious which is what counts in the end.

Public Domain is probably the best episode ever overall but my favourite is Real Deal because of it's historical signifigance to me.

Led Zeppelin II is very good but I prefer Goofy Ball and Bill's Autobiography- still a great show.

Welcome to the NewsRadio thread- Lie back in the massage chair and enjoy in the ride.

I can't believe I forgot Goofy Ball!! Dennis Miller made my day being in that one and Bill's sound when he zaps himself is hilarious in its subtle way. (it's brief, offscreen and not too audible...comedy gold.)

Season 4 was my favorite for the longest time but then I saw Season 3 in it's entirety this fall and realized how much Catherine was understated on the show. But agreed on Newsradio doing great work within the episodic format.

I totally understand loving your own "conversion" episode of Newsradio. There are better ensemble eps. in Season 1 but Smoking was my first and my beloved.

Thanks for the welcome Bob. And in honor of the massage chair:

Bill: Alright the chair costs $2000. So you have to give me $1200.

Matthew: No, half of $2000 is $1000.

Bill: I think you need to get yourself a calculator my friend.

(Here's to this being the 2003 Thread of the Year! The 5, 6, or 7 of us shall rule all. SALUD!)

The Real Deal is the first episode that ever had me laughing so hard that I fell off the couch.

I have most of season 3 downloaded and I agree it's a terrific season but season 4 has ANDREA!~.

Smoking is a really good intro episode for a n00b since it establishes all of the characters sort off.

I've been to a couple other Newsradio forums and most of the posters seemed down on ANDREA~. I always thought she was a perfect compliment to every single one of the cast's established behaviors. That was not an easy feat to accomplish and yet, there she was, doing it perfectly. And her relationship with Lisa was one of the funniest/weirdest I have ever seen in any sitcom period. (I really dug the Matthew if fired storyline too. Great physical comedy throughout it.)

As for The Real Deal, the part that got me laughing the most was Dave's dry reaction to Matthew losing his virginity.

"Well, let me be the first to congratulate you on...having sex in the break room...while we all stood out here waiting."

Another good introduction episode for a newcomer, to me at least, is "Coda." Bill, Jimmy, and Dave were absolutely hilarious in this episode bouncing off each other, Matthew was his usual weird self trying to keep the peace with everyone, Lisa and Joe displayed their usual tendencies perfectly, Beth and Catherine were solid in support and it contains the classic line

"I'm Bill McNeal on crack. I like boys."

JR & King do a REALLY dated Shaft routine, which sounds stupid coming from white guys unless it’s on Newsradio.

Even Scott Keith is celebrating the new aquisition to our cult.

Hey, 1100 posts! That number ends in zeros, so it must be a big deal.

OMG~! Scott Keith gave us an inadvertent SHOUT-OUT~! WH00~!

...Yup. You know, ever since they took NewsRadio off of the air, I've had trouble getting to school on time. A&E is RUINING MY EDUCATION.

Scott Keith acknowledges the Gazziza-ness of this show? You use post 1100 to talk about one of the funniest exchanges in the show's history? The Newsradio thread returns to page one? Can a return to A&E be far behind? (Answer: Yes...but come on, it would indeed fit in with the current trend of today.)

btw, in honor of post 1100, I shall pretend to be Jimmy James and make up "The Secret of Management, rule #1100" (based on rule #2)

"No shirt, two shoes, minimal service...No shirt, one shoe, better be hopping on one foot...Half shirt, no shoes...Matthew."

Guest bob_barron

Everytime I watch Secret of Management I try to figure out what exactly is the secret of management.

Justwitty- why do people dislike ANDREA!~? How can you hate Laura 'Hot' Graham?

Guest Justwitty
Posted

Bob, the argument I heard most often was that her character was annoying and inconsistent. Completely wrong but that was the problem the people had with her. No sane person can hate Lauren "Arsonist Hot" Graham. For those who watched ANDREA~, her character was not inconsistent, her less than sterling grip on reality was slowly peeled back, just like Dave. That's another reason I liked her so much, she was a perky, female version of Dave: Season 1 turning to Dave Seasons 2-5 in a short span of time. (straight laced followed by wonderfully insane nuttiness.)

Oh, and it just occured to me that had the show continued and someone asked Jimmy what the Secret of Management was, he would respond with something to the effect of:

"Hell if I know...I just wanted some company," followed by Lisa putting her head down on her desk in frustration and Dave just smirking. God I loved Stephen Root's pronunciation of the simplest sentences on this show.

Guest bob_barron

Wow- I totally never noticed that- Good work justwitty.

Lisa: At least I never burnt anyones house's down.

I love Jimmy: Just tell ole Unca Jeemy

Just tell ole Unca Jeemy

LOL!

10 points and my undying gratitude for including that in the thread.

Your love of ANDREA~ also raises another great point about Newsradio. They used their guest stars to to their fullest extent, always. John Ritter, Bob Odenkirk, David Cross, Patrick Warburton...even the, as Bill would say, "Delicious" cameo by Adam West. Every guest star worked within the parameters of the show and it never seemed to come off as stunt casting. There was an oddball nuttiness to each guest star's role. (I even thought Jerry Seinfeld in "The Real Deal" came off as a "Newsradio" version of himself as opposed to...well, Jerry Seinfeld, larger than life.)

Guest bob_barron

You list guest stars but you don't mention BEN STILLER???

Ben is my all time favourite- Every line, everything he does is just brilliant.

Okay- Shock and Jock.

Quit? I thought that's one four letter word you DON'T use

I'm almost tempted to turn in my Jimmy James Rockin' Ranger Brigade membership card after knowing that Scott Keith mentioned the show (whenever he throws out a gratuitous pop culture reference, it's usually something I hate (Friends, the band Cinderella).
