Guest bob_barron Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 Childs Play, Nightmare on Elm Street is all I can think of so far.
Guest dreamer420 Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 you gotta love jimmy james. he's one of my favourite tv characters ever mainly because of how pleasent he is on the show.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 Yea- Jimmy James is the man. I cried because I had no desk, until I met a man with no feet, and the no feet guy told me there was this thing called a budget, and WNYX was way over it. Dave to a sleeping Jimmy James: Normally at a time like this I'd ask you for advice, and you'd say something that would make no sense at all, but somehow it would all fit together. Like, I would tell you, "Sir, I have a problem," and you'd say, "Well, what is it?" and I'd say, "Well, sir, Lisa wants to have a baby, but she doesn't want to get married," and you'd say "Dave, why milk the cow when you have a fridge full of steaks?" And I'd say, "Sir, that makes no sense," and you'd say, "Well, it sure made sense when that guy Chuck Connors said it in that movie Chinatown," and I'd say, "Sir, Chuck Connors wasn't in Chinatown," and you'd say, "Dave, if I wanted to have this conversation I'd have hired that guy Siskel Ebert to do your job," and I'd say, "Sir, Siskel and Ebert are two people," and you'd say, "Dave, just because the man is fat is no reason to make fun of him."
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 The Daydream challenge: Nightmare on Elm Street, Child's Play, Aliens, Friday the 13th. I don't know where the whole 'Beth is in the breakroom, and Matthew's shadow appears on the wall posing like some ghoul' thing came from. Possibly a vampire movie, maybe Nosferateau or Dracula. Everything else has escaped me. I love the ep. where Bill has this obsession with molded sandwhiches. Brilliant.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 Hey, you didn't get any wrong, Bob....but you didn't get a lot right... Goody, job, Big. Still some more left, I think...and yes, Bill's obssession with the bad sandwiches is awesome. Christ, I found my episode guide and still can't list them all... Trivia...in my high school, we had to do a news program. I fought hard against my friends and got our station named WNYX, over such names as WKKK, WFAG, WGAY, and so on. Anyways, why don't we do a favorite episode poll? One poll per season, with each winner going to a final poll? It worked on a Simpsons site. I'll volunteer to o it, and write a sypnosis if I get support...
Guest bob_barron Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 WKKK- I gotta say thats pretty high class. Was your station 585 AM???
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 Do it. Was there a Phantom of the Opera reference in there? C'mon, give me the points.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 Yea- def do it. That would rule all. GO THE REAL DEAL!
Guest Mattdotcom Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 It was TV, actually, Bob. And I'll do it first thing tomorrow. There's an Undressed marathon on MTV, and I have to go make fun of it.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 Well were you channel 585. (Realises that doesnt make sense, must redeem dignity) UNDRESSED SUCKS! (Dignity redeemed)
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 Dude, I used to make fun of Undressed too! Though I haven't gotten into this season, the first two were absolutely hilarious. The absurd sitatuations they come up with in this show is incredible.
Guest areacode212 Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 Hey, I just re-watched Daydream last night (before I saw Mattdotcom's challenge). It's probably my all-time favorite ep, and I completely marked out for the Aliens parody (I watched Aliens a few days ago). Anyway, the ending sequence (where Dave's coming home, and Lisa is knitting) is a parody of the St. Elsewhere finale.
Guest areacode212 Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 I also watched "Arcade", which contained the "Bill loves the disgusting sandwiches" subplot. I can't believe I left it off my list. "We meet again". Dave: "Hey, I didn't just sign for a stolen jeep, did I, Radar?" Beth: "Dave...I don't watch Star Trek." Lisa: "Look, I can't even listen to NPR anymore. Y'know, I try to listen and I concentrate and I can't. My mind starts wandering, I get confused..." Dave: "Well, wait a minute, isn't that what's supposed to happen when you listen to NPR? This episode reminded me why I loved Vicki Lewis as Beth. She threw in so many cool little flourishes with her line readings and body language. A lot of her really funny moments in this episode aren't THAT funny on paper, but they were awesome on screen.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 I love this thread. We're a family now, seeing as how only like five of us are still posting. The St. Elsewhere parody is my favorite one out of the whole bunch. As for Undressed, it's laughable, but it just sucks now. I mean, when I first started watching, it was softcore lesbian porn. Now it's ugly Canadians and their hot friends (that never get Undressed). My favorite "Mattdotcomisms": "Why does their high school have a waiting area? And why doesn't anyone sit there besides the ugly redhead?" "Oh, look. People getting dressed. Doesn't that go against what the show teaches?" "Finally! Lesbians!" Well, time to get started on that poll.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 All you bastards are gonan vote Daydream over The Real Deal. Admit it- The opening sequence of The Real Deal is priceless. I love Arcade as well- Leleii Sobieski (girl who looks like Helen Hunt) is in it. Bill and the sandwhiches- Bill McNeal is god
Guest Mattdotcom Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 The poll is up! And thanks for reminding me about Sobieski. I couldn't remember who it was, and it was bothering me. Oh, and if anyone wants to inject some quotes into the poll topics, go ahead. The sypnosis might not be as helpful as quotes.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 I gave a review of each. GO INAPPROIATE GO!
Guest bob_barron Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 I'm dling Jumper, Real Deal and Twins right now- go Inapproiate!
Guest bob_barron Posted July 7, 2002 Report Posted July 7, 2002 I just dled Breakup, Sleeping, At the Airport and Daydream. Go me!
Guest dreamer420 Posted July 7, 2002 Report Posted July 7, 2002 the crunching of the sandwichs was a little to loud to be that funny though. the story around it is funny the the fake crunching kind of ruined the episode.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 7, 2002 Report Posted July 7, 2002 Ummm dreamer were you baked when you posted that??
Guest areacode212 Posted July 7, 2002 Report Posted July 7, 2002 I'm halfway through season 1 right now, and I think I may be voting for Inappropriate.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 7, 2002 Report Posted July 7, 2002 YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Yea AreaCode!
Guest areacode212 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 So, do you guys think Brian Gewirtz is a NewsRadio fan? There have been a couple of NR references in various WWE promos over the past few years. The most glaring one was Edge's KOTR coronation speech where he referred to Billy Gunn as "Billy Bitchcakes". "Bitchcakes", of course, was something that was coined by Beth (I don't think it was ever used pre-NR). Also, there was a Goldust/Booker skit (the Scorpion King one) where Goldust said something was "delicious" (this one is a bit of a stretch, I know, but it's still plausible as a NR reference) Can you think of any others?
Guest bob_barron Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Remember that NewsRadio where Dave tore his bicep and then came back and tore his quad?? Ummm I can't think of any other NR references
Guest areacode212 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Well, how about some NewsRadio trivia? Someone answers the previous person's question, then asks one of their own. I'll start: What was the name of the video game that Lisa's brother sold to Microsoft? (as best as Lisa could recall) (hint: it was the title of an episode two years later)
Guest bob_barron Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Super Karate Monkey Death Car. That episode was on today
Guest bob_barron Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 At the end of The Real Deal what celebrity do Bill-n-Lisa run out to meet?
Guest Mattdotcom Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 What's the deal with easy questions? Jerry Seinfeld. Who's the "big guy that's still alive" Mr. James is reminded of? BONUS: Name the dead one, too.
Guest areacode212 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Hulk Hogan Dead guy: Andre the Giant What floor of the building are the WNYX studios located on?
