Which game of the past year...

The thing that got me was.... no red hair for the CAWs. I can't make my CAW with no red-fucking-hair.

Oh well... back to Software Etc. it went.

When you look at it at this point, I don't think the game companies that made the WWE games wanted a shitload of stuff in the game at first, then there would be nothing to add later on in future WWE games. That is the main logic why it is so shitty, its like WCW/nWo World Tour, you couldn't do much in the game.

This wasn't directed at me, but I'll address it anyway. I like playing SD3, because the gameplay itself is a lot better than the 1st 2 games, but there are a lot of things missing from this game that made the 1st 2 games so fun. For example, in SD3, you can only win and defend titles in Story Mode, which I hate! What's the point in having a ladder or TLC match in exhibition mode when you can't put a real title on the line! That cheapens the game, IMO.

And another thing I hate is Season Mode itself. Whereas the 1st 2 games would use various storylines/angles (albeit with little correlation between events), with SD3, it's the exact same thing every time! It's boring, repetitive, and the story doesn't even make any sense! I mean honestly, who in their right mind would pass up a World Title shot to go for the I-C or Euro Titles?! And I hate playing Tag mode, because the game has a bad habit of making you face random pairings instead of established Tag Teams (I can't tell you how many times I've faced Jeff Hardy and the Rock in the last 7 months). I hate story mode, and the fact that you have to play it in order to get hidden characters and what not makes me hate it even more.

Another thing I hate about SD3 is that you can't throw your opponents into the guardrails anymore. Don't get me wrong...I think it's cool how you can fight in the crowd now, but I can't tell you how annoying it is whipping somebody into the barricade then having him stand there and look at you like nothing happened. And you can't put your opponent through the announce table anymore. Then there's the whole "selling" issue...you can miss a 450 splash from the top of the cell and pop right back up, but you miss a charging grapple and will stay down for 6 months. And don't even get me started on the damn cell match! It's the hardest thing in the world to try and put someone through the roof of the Cell, and you can't even throw your opponent off the top anymore! It's not like it would phase him anyway, but it's nice to know that you can do it! And then there's the new DQ feature! Honest to God, I've gone after the ref, clotheslined and stomped him and not get DQ'd, but let him walk into the way of one of an ACCIDENTAL clothesline, and the match is over. I once lost an Ultimate Submission match to Rikishi 0-1 all because of the damn ref!

Damn, after that rant, you'd think I hated the game. I don't, but it could've been so much better.

My picks are:

MGS 2

Wrestlemania X-8

Smackdown 3

Raw is War

While I have never played any of these games, I've read about them and they sound like they were hyped-up to the point that in the end, the final releases of the games turned out to be a let-down.

MGS 2-One of the things that made MGS 1 great was playing as a tough, mercenary-like Solid Snake as the good guy, which is what a stealth action video game should have, not some weak good guy like Raiden who has personality disorders and looks like a woman. Another thing I read about was that there was a tough situation in which you would have to protect a woman named Emma in one part of the game through a minefield while trying to not let her get shot by enemy gunfire. Another downer was the fact that you only played as Snake through the Tanker stage, but the rest was Raiden throughout the most part of the game, and Snake ended up being the bad guy at the end. Hopefully with the revamped version of the game coming out sometime this year(with you playing as either Solid Snake or Raiden throughout the game), I think, Konami doesn't do so many twists and turns with the game like they did with MGS 2 that they screwed up so bad with it.

Wrestlemania X-8-After we got through with WWF No Mercy, we were wanting a newer, and even more improved version of the THQ/AKI wrestling titles series that's been popular with us since 1997, with good gameplay, good moves, numerous grapple moves for each wrestler, decent graphics, decent selling, effective submissions after working over a body part, being able to edit appearances to keep wrestlers up-to-date, added with an even better CAW with Japanese wrestler masks and more. When news broke that Yukes, not AKI, was developing it, most wrestling video game fans' interest level in this game dropped VERY low, no doubt, and I read about it playing like a mixture of the SD series and Raw is War, with only FIVE front standing grapples, bad movesets, no editing of appearances, only moves(and the moves in the game aren't even that great), and a limited CAW mode by the time people who own the game starting playing it.

Smackdown 3-Still plays like the older SD titles, only with newer wrestlers, still-awful movesets, and features taken out of the game that were in the older titles, which knocked the SD series even lower.

Raw is War-Way-too heavily-hyped, and it came out only with good graphics, just like the other two most-recent WWE games, but with bad gameplay, controls, movesets, and an awful CAW mode.

What in the hell are you talking about? Snake was never the bad guy. He swerved a few times, but it was all for the greater good in the end. Play that game before you bash it. I hate Raiden too, but it remins one of my favorite games.

WM-X8 is suprisingly good. I was just like you til I picked it up, and the CAW and even the single player leave a bit to be desired, but if you have friends, just have a 3-way hell in a cell, and it'll be the most fun you ever had in a wrestling game. Seriously, my friends and I have pulled two nigh all nighters becaue the HIAC are so fun. You can disrupt moves at anytime, so since it's first pin wins, when we all get on the cell, we're trying to drive ourselves and one other opponent through one panel so the other person has to climb down and they won't make it in time to break up the pin, but we're always breaking up the moves in the middle, so it's sweet and intense. And you can counter specials.

RAW never played.

Smackdown I own, wasn't that good.

Let's make it simple. MGS=great game... MGS2=Horrible,horrible,horrible. I wasn't impressed by Devil May Cry, TTT was boring as hell(too easy..) and The Silent Hill games? Too damn cheesy, "horror" games=crap.

Oh no you didn't.

Silent Hill was cheesy, in that the acting and writing were the crappiest thing ever.

But Silent Hill 2 = godly. Short, but godly.

MGS2 was a big letdown for me. I thought it started out decent enough, but I didn't play it much after you assumed control of Raiden. I went right back to GTA3.

State of Emergency was a letdown for me because I thought it would be somewhat like GTA3 but it wasn't.

My biggest letdown of the year was probably GT3, because, while I enjoyed playing it, it was waaay too similar to GT and GT2 to keep my attention. It had like three new tracks, which is nowhere near enough. Slick interface? Sure. Great graphics? Absolutely. Anything new? Nope...

<<<MGS2=Horrible,horrible,horrible.>>>

Oh come on. Disappointing? I can see that, even though, as I've said many times on this board, I don't agree. Horrible, horrible, horrible? No way. Even if you hated the story, the gameplay is still golden, and far better in every way than the original. Hate Raiden all you want, but he plays exactly the same as Snake.

MGS2 is one of the very rare times where I actually agree with the mags as opposed to the online community. The mags are somewhat rational, noting problems (Raiden, stupid ending) while acknowledging the greatness of everything else. Otoh, half the net community freak out so much over Raiden that they ignore everything else. Bah, he's bad, but not that bad.

<<<TTT was boring as hell(too easy..)>>>

Too... easy... ?! *Faints* What, because you could beat the ultra hard computer or some friends by mashing buttons? Woohoo, go you. You wouldn't think it was too easy after playing me. :)

Either Luigi's Mansion (I thought it would be a great addition to the Mario series, instead I got an awful game that's a insult to the name Nintendo) Grand Theft Auto 3 (It was fun, but no where near the hype. Everyone praised it like Jesus himself created the game) and Halo (Again, another fun game, but "game of the year" it is not)

GT3 would have been great if they had actually included a frickin' DAMAGE MODEL. For all of the pundits who heap their praises upon the Gran Turismo series as "the most realistic racing game ever", it really goes to shit the second you realize that you can slam into the wall and actually get an advantage through certain corners by doing it.

That being said, GT3 was from 2001, so I think it's out of the voting category.

I thought we were talking about 2001? MGS2, GTA3, Silent Hill 2 and the like were all 2001. Shrug.

I find most "Horror" games to be too chesy to play period. Resident Evil,Silent Hill and the god knows how many knock off games..oh wait, these games are SCARY no? I liked Raiden from MGS2, sure it looked pretty and played nice, but what else? The story was complete shit and Liquid Snake coming back was really retarded and lame, come on..taking over a man's body with a fucking arm? That's really cheesy to me. Yes..the ending to me was too long and too boring. MGS will ALWAYS be way better than MGS2 due to a great story, graphics should matter to much should they? The game looks good for a PS1. Anyway..

I'm back to playing Morrowind.

Eh, I don't care about graphics, but if a game plays nice, it's not "Horrible, horrible, horrible". The gameplay is great, that makes it a good game even if the plot was shit. I don't think the plot is shit, I think it's very good except for some really stupid parts, but even if it was shit, I'd still love the game because it has the best stealth gameplay of all time.

And you should answer chirs3's questions. Why do you hate the entire horror genre? You've yet to give any real reasons except that they're "chesy", heh.

Heh. I'll freely admit, by the way, that I can almost never play Silent Hill 2 for any longer than 30 minutes without someone else in the room. I get a severe case of nerves, even if the sun is shining brightly through the French Doors and all the lights are on.

I'm a wimp.

Yeah I usually don't play extremely freaky games at 2 a.m..

*SPOILERS*

At the end of MGS2 when the Col. started freaking out and I all that weird shit was being said I was playing at like 2 a.m. and it freaked me out really bad. I was like "Is the PS2 going to kill me? Why's it mouthing off and promising my death?"

Sure, I'm really scared of horror games.. <_< Silent Hill 2 as a whole was complete shit to me. Graphics,story,gameplay..the idea of walking around with a board w/nail and waiting for something SCARY to jump out at me is rather lame.. I found Silent Hill 2 just as great as any game with Lara Croft, to me..it sucked that bad. That's my view on horror games and nobody shares the same feelings on everything, so hey.

Could you be any more vague, man? Sorry to keep dragging this out, but you're saying the story and gameplay suck without saying WHY they suck. For all we know, all you did was look at screenshots and said "Board with a nail in it? This game must suck," because you aren't really giving us any more than that.

And the point of the board is not to "wait til something jumps out", because something rarely ever "jumps out". It's more like "run like hell because you are sooooo screwed until you get the pistol".

Edit: Thinking back, I don't think there's a single point in the game when something "jumps out". I mean Resident Evil 2 something bursts through the wall when you don't expect it kind of jumps out. Nothing like that in SH2.
