Xbox and XBL

So back in April I finally bought an Xbox to get on Live and try this "WrestleMania 21" game people were talking about. Well the game came out and, well, pretty much everyone agreed it was terrible.   This was fine, however, as I now have the ability to play a lot of games I missed out on (and still haven't bothered playing yet...soon!). For instance, I really think Knights of the Old Republic is a kickass game. I also finally borrowed Halo 2 from a friend last night and, while I totally suck at it, the online experience is pretty cool.   DrVenkman21 is my "gamertag", for those interested. I look forward to trying out some sports games online in the future.

Commercial Ignorance

Some commercials really bother me with their technical ignorance...   There's the Cogeco Cable video on demand one that features a man with tattoos and a gruff voice getting teary eyed over allegedly just watching a romance film, yet the images (though somewhat blurred to try and mask this) are just commercials for video on demand movies.   Today I saw a commercial, I think it was for window installation, where a man is flipping through channels on his TV not by using the large green channel up/down buttons, but the smaller, pink "2" button. To further make no sense, the commercial has added sound effects that one would hear if they were changing channels on a television dial.   Maybe I'm just too picky about stuff like that.   On a better note, I was the Vengeance Play-Per-View champion at Stablewars. Hooray!   Oh, Happy Canada Day!

Banana Flavour

So I was way off on my thoughts on what would happen on Raw. Edge being chased away by Kane is a logical reason for him to have not cashed in on his best (and perhaps last) chance to use his Money in the Bank contract though.   Anyhow, today at the 7-11, a banana flavoured Kit Kat bar caught my eye. Much like banana flavoured popsicles and Slurpee, this has that familiar "artificial taste that tastes nothing like a banana" that I find pretty swell.   Also I noticed Wild Cherry Pepsi was on sale for 79 cents per 591ml bottle so that flavour is either dead or the store had to make room for the "Pepsi Lime" product.   AndrewTS needs to start a blog.

Vengeance and Raw and more

Saw Vengeance, liked it (of course, I'm a mark).   Slightly confused why so many people voted the HIAC as the MOTN in Meltz's feedback though. Dave himself even went out to say it was "considerably better" than a match he already gave ****1/4 to (Cena vs. JBL). I'm not huge on star ratings... it's all subjective.. but to me that match seemed like the usual dull encounter HHH and Batista have had stretched out 10 minutes longer but with more weapons and blood. I was getting into it by the end and I will say I did like the match overall, but my pal at the bar was nodding off at this point.   As I previously said, I very much expect Eddie to be one of the final draft picks on Raw tonight. The other one will probably be Torrie Wilson or someone of little consequence, but then again people have been saying that as a prediction every week.   Edge's character is pretty retarded if he doesn't use his title contract tonight. Batista is fresh off a HIAC match, which WWE logic has portrayed as a burtal, life changing match. With the possibility looming that in "3 days" his contract will become void anyway, he really should use it tonight.   I watched Family Guy when I returned home from the bar last night (which, by the way, had a lot less business than the One Night Stand PPV. That was the busiest night I've seen since I started going to the place for Backlash). Better than last week's episode (which I liked anyway), and hearing John Erwin playing He-Man was awesome. At the same time, I felt, like some have said previously about the GI Joe joke, that it really wasn't a joke at all... it was Prince Adam showing up and turning into He-Man. That was it. But hey, I like stuff like that.... random, out of place, and a mark out moment.

Music, I guess

I'm not really into that whole music thing so these random opinions I thought up while looking at Yahoo's front page link to their Buzz section may mean nothing to anyone but I realized I had an outlet for them so whatever...   American Idol is stupid.   Bo Bice is the stupidest name I've ever heard.   "Hit Me Baby One More Time" is the stupidest name for a TV show I've ever heard... these people realize it's the name of a Britney Spears song from 1998, right?   "She Will Be Loved" is without a doubt the worst song I've ever heard in maybe not only the last 5 years but perhaps ever.

Play-Per-View

I enjoy playing Play-Per-View on Stablewars for every PPV... the socring system is pretty good (your correct prediction gets 1 point for every wrong prediction by other players) and until the ECW PPV I was doing quite good for the season (Backlash - WM).   Check it out   Stablewars Play-Per-View

Draft

First off, Shinji (aka MisawaGQ) rocks. He should start a blog here with his puro and indy thoughts and what not. And apparently he did! Hooray!   Second, based on the draft pattern so far, Eddie will be one of the 2 final draftees on Raw this Monday. Three of the draftees seem to have been moved after a long feud ended and they were on the losing end - Benoit (Edge), Angle (Booker), and Hassan (Raw Roster - waiting for 1st defeat). Eddie has now lost his feud to Rey and since they didn't save it for the Bash, it would seem one of them is moving shows.   That is all.

Look Out, Dummy

I learned a valuable lesson this week...   When your forum signature is a counter for a title reign, do not assume it is safe to set it 5 days ahead while you are on vacation because WWE wouldn't change a title 6 days before a PPV. It was a bit weird to come home on Wednesday and watch a tape of Raw only to see Shelton Benjamin lose his IC title on Monday while my forum signature claimed he was still IC champ on Wednesday. It seems few cared or noticed though.   Other things I learned while away:   The penny Star Wars slot machines are probably the greatest video slot machine gambling experience ever.   A roller coaster ride that only lasts 20 seconds may actually be better than one that lasts 2 minutes and 20 seconds (in this case, it would be a roller coaster at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas that blasts you at 70mph right away compared to New York New York Casino's decent but not as good longer coaster ride).   When the sign says "Do not feed the bears", brother, you better not feed those bears.   Actually that last one had nothing to do with my trip.   I also picked up a few DVDs while away - after finding out the Virgin Megastore in Caesers Palace no longer exists and finding a FYE at a mall near the hotel - and so far so good is what I have to say about "The Top Superstars of the 80s" and "The Life and Death of the Road Warriors". While nothing (maybe outside of the match with the Hart Foundation) on the LOD DVD is a super great wrestling match, it was just so weird and cool to watch LOD vs Tenryu/Hogan and mark out for it. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the 80s DVD is actually a 3 hour program about with clips and histories of the featured 15 stars with the matches and other bonuses serving just as extras. Some people don't care for that, I do.   A nice thing about living in Canada is Justice League Unlimited just finished it's season up here with a pretty interesting episode.   And with that, I'm off to watch some more things on the TV.

Random Nonsense

Hacksaw Jim Duggan be-be-beats people up.   Hacksaw Jim Duggan be-be-beats people u-u-u-u-up.   U-S-A U U U U-S-A   U-S-A HOOOOO! HOOOO!   That's quite the catchy song, eh? Wonder if WWE will ever produce the quality of WrestleMania: The Album again, complete with Roddy Piper inquring if we are ready for Survivor Series to open a song about WrestleMania.   So that Knights of the Old Republic game is pretty sweet eh? I'm just playing through it now, I've done 2 of the 4 planets that you have to go through after completing Dantooine... I hear KOTORII isn't as good but I'll play through it anyway after I finish this game.   Here are two terrible jokes!   What did they call the first Pac-Man game? Episode I: The PHANTOM Menace What did they call the similar Ms. Pac-Man game? Episode II: Attack of the CLONES   Not only are those jokes awful, but they make no sense... the games were called Pac-Man and Ms. (Mrs.? I'm probably forfiting my Gaming Card for not being 100% sure about this) Pac-Man! How do I think up such awful jokes?   I blame the internet. And the popularity of swing music.

Boycott Vengeance! Say no to Angle/HBK II!

A blog eh... so I guess I can sorta write "Shades" again but in a totally condensed random whatever comes to mind format... which is kinda how the full fleged columns were if I had enough ideas and time to write one.   So last night some people were throwing a bit of a fit over Vengeance and demanding no one order a PPV that was "obviously being booked in an attempt to outdo ECW's PPV", apparently forgetting it's all the same company.   In return, I became somewhat frustrated and made several posts about how retarded this theory was and for whatever reason decided to use PPV buyrate figures for ONS that are so preliminary that Dave Meltzer (the most respected source for fair and balanced wrestling news on the internet) has pretty much said "they could be right, but the figure could just as easily be 300,000".   Well, I still don't put any merit into the "WWE is trying to kill ECW's PPV success" theory (HHH? Maybe. Vince and/or 'WWE'? No.) I guess I shouldn't have used unproven numbers to back up my point. However, I would like to point out that after whatever page contained the many posts (or perhaps one or two that were quoted frequently and thus appeared a lot) calling for the boycott, the later pages all seemed to back up the "that theory is dumb" idea.   And hey, I also managed to make a reference to the early 90s "McWorld" commercials that people seemed to enjoy so that made my night.
