Big Ol' Smitty Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 I have a proposal for a gentleman's wager. If Mike or his henchmen can produce three (3) credible sources that prove that Canada's rate of violent crime is higher than that of the United States I will let Mike change the following as he sees fit... 1. My signature 2. My avatar 3. My custom user title If he or his cronies fail to do so, then I will be given the above privileges with respect to his account. Judging of source credibility and of the outcome of the bet will be done by a bi-partisan commission consisting of: 1. Cerebus 2. Loss 3. Czech Republic and 4. Rob E Dangerously The gauntlet has been dropped. Be ye man or mouse, MikeSC?

I provided my source and you have yet to debunk his claims. And I don't CARE enough to change your avatar or anything. -=Mike
Justice Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 First off, shouldn't this be in HD? Secondly, I'm saddened I'm not on the bipartisan council. Looks interesting, though.
Big Ol' Smitty Posted November 22, 2004 Author Report Posted November 22, 2004 All apologies Powerplay--I certainly should have included you. I just thought the CE people would care more.
Justice Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 All apologies Powerplay--I certainly should have included you. I just thought the CE people would care more. Why appologize? Frankly, I've been a bit combative as of late, so I do think I need to tone it down. And point taken.
NYU Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Mike, you should have no problem winning this, right? I mean, everything you say, you're able to back up with sources. Like when you said George Soros provided the funding for left-wing blogs. You eventually gave your source for that, and everyone believed you. Correct? This should be no different. Take the bet.
Guest MikeSC Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Mike, you should have no problem winning this, right? I mean, everything you say, you're able to back up with sources. Take the bet. I've already provided my evidence. A comment smitty has already failed to refute. Going with stats from the US gov't and from the Canadian gov't, in a per 100,000 population, Canada's overall, violent, and property crime rate is higher than the US'. I accepted it when I first mentioned it. I just won't change anything of his when I win. -=Mike
BX Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 He won't take the bet. Even if he did, his sources would end up looking like the sources from an Ann Coulter "book."
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Mike, provide proof that Kos is bankrolled by Soros, plz.

Big Ol' Smitty Posted November 22, 2004 Author Report Posted November 22, 2004 If you guys wanna add Powerplay and Karl Rove to the commission I'm game.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Mike, provide proof that Kos is bankrolled by Soros, plz. thx
Guest MikeSC Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 If you guys wanna add Powerplay and Karl Rove to the commission I'm game. Feel free. I've provided my source, who provided his source. You are asking for a bet you've already lost. Oh well. -=Mike
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Mike seems to be dodging the question
BX Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Mike, provide proof that Kos is bankrolled by Soros, plz. Yeah.
NYU Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 It certainly does look that way.... Surely Mike would never do a thing like that.
Big Ol' Smitty Posted November 22, 2004 Author Report Posted November 22, 2004 Okay, I've found a 2003 statistic for violent crime on the statcan site. I have yet to find any equivalent statistic for violent crime on the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics site. If anybody could locate this statistic--"2003 violent crime rate"--from the site it'd be great. All the stats only go to 2002 anyway.

Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Mike, provide proof that Kos is bankrolled by Soros, plz. Yeah. Concur.
Big Ol' Smitty Posted November 22, 2004 Author Report Posted November 22, 2004 That seems conclusive to me. I said 3 sources but that's alright with me. The panel will rule and Mike shall punish me as he see fits. Or not, if he doesn't want to. If that data is correct, it's weird that all these other places said that Canada's violent crime rate is so much lower.

Big Ol' Smitty Posted November 22, 2004 Author Report Posted November 22, 2004 Eureka! I've found the glitch in the system, I think. statcan includes ALL types of assault in its calculation of violent crime. The majority of the violent crimes on the statcan tally are assault--probably mostly minor assaults. The US statistics only include AGGRAVATED assault, which is the most serious kind. If all assaults were included the US rate would be much higher.
Big Ol' Smitty Posted November 22, 2004 Author Report Posted November 22, 2004 I knew you Canucks were a simple, peace-loving people. The judges will decide if my debunking is valid.
Highland Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 I knew you Canucks were a simple, peace-loving people. The judges will decide if my debunking is valid. So you think.
NYU Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Do any members of this commission actually know they're involved in this?

The majority of the violent crimes on the statcan tally are assault--probably mostly minor assaults. The US statistics only include AGGRAVATED assault, which is the most serious kind. If all assaults were included the US rate would likely be higher. Your going with ASSUMPTIONS. I'm going with cold-hard data. You STILL have nothing to refute it. ALL I said was "violent crime". I didn't say murder. I didn't say rape. I said "violent crime". -=Mike
Highland Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Even limiting the scope to violent crimes, it is still higher per 100,000 people in Canada than in the US. I hated having to type that.
Guest BrokenWings Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Do any members of this commission actually know they're involved in this? Well, that would ruin the fun now, wouldn't it? And I second the thought of this supposing to be in the Hardcore folder.
